Brit Awards 2002

Brits 2002 Dido and Kylie Minogue received two awards each at the Brit Awards 2002 ceremony on 20th February at London's Earls Court. Other winners of the night hosted by Zoe Ball and Frank Skinner included Blue, Robbie Williams, Westlife and S Club 7.

The alternative band Gorillaz who have been nominated in every category possible (six nominations in total) went home empty handed, just as did Craig David last year. This year the R&B singer didn't receive any statuettes of his three nominations either.

Performances during the show included Dido, Gorillaz, Kylie Minogue, Mis- Teeq, Shaggy, The Strokes and a rather unusual duet - Jamiroquai's Jay Kay and Anastacia. Sting also performed on stage, having won this year's Outstanding Contribution award.

However the winners of the UKMIX Brits 2002 Poll were quite different from the actual winners on the show. Dido and Gorillaz dominated the Poll, winning in three categories each, with Anastacia close behind, named Best International Female Artist and Best International Newcomer. Alicia Keys' "Songs In A Minor" was named Best International Album, while Kylie Minogue won in the Pop Act category.

Commiseration goes to Hear'say, Westlife, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Elbow, Starsailor, Turin Brakes, The Avalanches, Björk and Aphex Twin who got no votes at all.
