I know many of you (well, probably all of you..) won't care, but Metallica now has a replacement bassist :D He's Rob from Suicidal Tendencies, so I suspect they'll be as awesome as ever.

If he's anywhere near as good as Cliff [the original bassist for Metallica - died in the late 80's from a tourbus crash].. then we're in for some real good stuff :o :o

And I guess while I'm here I might as well say I'm secretly going to a Metallica concert in June!! Don't tell my mum!

So who did Metallica have as a bassist in between the time that the original dude died and now?

Yeh I like their stuff a lot as well. They were my "wow this is a real heavy rock band" group when I growin up in the 80's. I used to always watch the Enter Sandman video (I was a bit older at this time of course) with the truck coming into focus at the star (is that right)?

I ran across this article today:

After nearly three months of relentless auditioning and a whole bunch of DAMN updates, Metallica have finally chosen their replacement bassist for Jason Newsted, who left the group in 2001.

Bassist Robert Trujillo of Ozzy Osburne’s band has left the prince of darkness to officially join Metallica full-time to tour and record. Trujillo beat out a whole bunch of really good bassists who auditioned for the Metallica spot, including ex-Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder and ex-Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez. Twiggy probably wasn’t feeling burnt, seeing as he joined A Perfect Circle a couple of weeks ago.

Metallica and Trujillo actually go way back to the early ‘90s, when Tujillo used to play for surf-metallers Suicidal Tendencies. They got to know each other well when Suicidal and Metallica toured Europe together in ’93.

Hmmm...looks like it's Ozzy's turn to audition.

Yay people replied!! :D

I'm really hoping James and Kirk let Rob help with the songwriting, which is suposedly what drove Jason away. I don't blame him...

Btw - Mudvayne will be there too. ;) And someone else, but I don't remember who :-?
