I guess people have nothing on this artistic giant-pity all those Madonna,Mariah Carey and Celine Dion lovers who have not been exposed to Mitchell's musical genius

"Court and Spark" was certified in dec 1997, but "Blue" hasn't been certifed since 1986 so that one might be ready for 2 x platinum too!

Taming the tiger was her last studio album. She has a covers album coming early next year, including a song by Prince.

That's something I'd love to hear!

I got into Joni Mitchell because of Prince. He'd been citing her as an influence since day one. He said "Hissing of Summer Lawns" was one of his all-time favorite albums, so I thought I'd better check her out. I've now got almost everything she's ever done.

Really amazing when you look at the cross-section of artists that have cited her as an influence, from Led Zeppelin to Janet Jackson to Prince the list goes on

She is admired by so many musicians. Not really known by the masses

Joni hates the industry not the music itself. She had a falling out with the industry when she was told by those in the industry that her album Trevelogue was a masterpiece that is why it would never sell!

From Ask Billboard:

Let's switch gears to Joni Mitchell.

So far, "Shine" has sold 168,000 in the U.S. through the week ending Dec. 16 according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's her biggest selling album since 2000's "Both Sides Now," which has moved 323,000.

Mitchell garnered a Grammy nomination for "One Week Last Summer," a track from "Shine," in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category. She is up against songs by Beastie Boys, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Dave Koz and Spyro Gyra.

Here is a brief run down of Mitchell's SoundScan-era (1991-present) releases and how much they have sold in the U.S. through the week ending Dec. 16.

"Night Ride Home" (1991; 238,000)
"Turbulent Indigo" (1994; 311,000)
"Hits" (1996; 488,000)
"Misses" (1996; 60,000)
"Taming the Tiger" (1998; 133,000)
"Both Sides Now" (2000; 323,000)
"Travelogue" (2002; 72,000)
"The Complete Geffen Recordings" (2003; 5,000)
"The Beginning of Survival" (2004; 24,000)
"Dreamland" (2004; 78,000)

Her biggest selling pre-SoundScan release is "Blue," which has sold 733,000 since 1991, while "Court and Spark" is in second place with 514,000.

Thank you Dane.

The billboard guy obviously likes Joni because he was very free with the information. :D

Seems that once she fell off the Gold standard that was it - except for the Hits album that must have actually shipped around 500k by now.

The updated numbers also show that Blue sold about 38k in the past 12 months, and Court&Spark about 13k.

Why do people have to make comments like that, I own so many albums by so many different artist, and i am sure , a lot more people more do. From Andrea Bocelli, Amy Whinehouse, MAriah, U2, The Corrs, Joss Stone, Ary j. blige, Joni Michell, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Wsavier Naidoo ...

I have used her album "Both Sides Now" to do a radio play of the film "Notebook"!

Respect to you!

Her latest album "Shine" (which turns 1 year old in 2 days!) is so amazing. I still don't understand how it only sold like 200,000 in the U.S.
