The official chart thread for the best legendary Canadian goddess along with Joni Mitchell & Sarah McLachlan - the 8th studio album from the goddess Alanis!

#12 on UK Midweeks & the album is #1 on iTunes France & Virgin. It should open up top ten everywhere but tank quickly unforunately.

This album is so amazing - it blows Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie out of the water. She gave her fans exactly what she wanted & gave us a brilliant LP in return - Straightjacket must be released as the second single!

I think 50k is a maximum for this new album : Alanis is not an "artist of big first weeks", the precedent album was not a best seller and there isn't a big single in perspective. Perhaps a big promotion could be change that... :-?

yes, you're right. Look at her chart runs/opening weeks - it went down so fast with every new album, the only one that scored very impressive opening week - "SFIJ" back in 98  and her sales? Terrible nowadays, especially "So-Called Chaos" was not even certified by RIAA (it should have been cuz the sales stand about 480k) :-?

she is not to score big airplay with this album, the only one thing she could do is make a big promotion, you know fans are pleased by this album so much so it could be very easy to hype this album in some show 8-)

The poor reception of "Chaos" (I believe around 450k in the US at the final) is really sad : this album was very good.
And, unfortunately, according to some research on the web, any promotion is predicted...

She'll also play "Late Show With David Letterman" on the release date, make appearances in late June on A&E and "CBS Sunday Morning" and perform July 18 on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Additional appearances are planned with Howard Stern, Tavis Smiley, E!, Entertainment Tonight and CNN.

I honestly think she'll sink to hell with this album.
Alanis is unfortunately dead, specially with this new electronic sound. She should have came up with a true ROCK sound, much more organic.
Instead, she made this (sorry) awful album blending the relatively bad melodies of So-Called Chaos (previously her worst album until now) with ELECTRONIC BEATS! Which have nothing to do with her!

I don't think she has to make a new jagged little píll (and plus I'd like to say that I think Supposed former(...) and even Under Rug Swept are better than JLP) but I think she is going through the WORST way she could get.

The first single, "Underneath" is one of the most boring songs from the album IMO, there are better songs to choose, while I think the ONLY really good song from the album is "Versions Of Violence".

I'm disappointed, but at least the lyrics are better if compared with So called chaos... :-?

She won't sell more than 200-300k copies in US (in total), but I don't think that matters if the album doesn't deserves to. :x

This is a matter of opinion. I particularly enjoyed the sound of the album, it was somehow innovative when it comes to Alanis. I know this album will probably flop but at least she can say she tried something different... releasing a rock album wouldn't guarantee it to become a hit, unfortunately. 8-)
I'm feeling rough, I'm feeling raw!

LOL she doesn't call herself Queen Alanis nowadays, does she? She should though, I like the ring to it

And yes, sadly this will probably not sell a lot.

yes, that's a good stuff - anyway i doubt the album will fail to reach 100k, that release week, maybe Lil' Wayne is a favorit for the top, but the competition ain't so bad  Top 10 is believed to being cracked definitely! 8-)
