I think that's possibly the worst A-list I have seen in years. Radio 1 doesn't deserve it's millions of listeners.

They need to move stuff down from the A-list because it's strange hearing a song on the radio all the time to hardly ever hearing it.

How weird that they've dropped some of the biggest hits around right now and some that have only just entered the chart, and straight from the A-List too - I'd expect them to be relegated before being dropped completely :-?

Radio 1 play a lot less music nowadays than 5 years ago. The difference is even more clear if you compared playlists from 10 years ago.

The whole point of Radio 1's music policy is pushing & promoting new music. ie. Once a song enters the charts and starts getting played on commercial radio, there's no need for Radio 1 to promote it any more. Their work is done, effectively. That's why songs get dropped.

So take, for example, Little Jackie's song. R1 have been playing that for well over a month, maybe two. The fact that commercial radio are a bit more behind the times doesn't really make a difference. The song becomes a bit stale once you've been playing it for so long. By the time it gets released, people can buy it for themselves if they want to keep listening to it, but R1's commitment to playing it ends there so that people don't get sick of it. There's always going to be newer, fresher music to play!

Steve, I think the radio 1 playlist is a bit snobbish. There are great songs that never get playlist even though they could be huge hits. Its quite biased towards guitar music too, a little more balance would be great - the fact that their recurrents are almost all indie-rock proves my point.
And Radio 1 are only fast to drop songs quickly after being released in certain occasions. I've seen flops by Pigeon Detectives, Kaiser Chiefs, Fratellis etc remain on the A-list for weeks after being released, even though none of them became hits.

That is what irritates me most about Radio 1, of late they playlisted for weeks that Kooks song which only made the top 30
