Your most probably right, as the Aussie is the youngest Slam, but i really don't like when the Grand Slams are talked about in terms of prestige, because it feels like it takes away from the winners.

A slam win, is a slam win. A win shouldn't be downgraded because you won it on hard court, and not on grass at Wimbledon.

A great win by Serena! Jelena fought hard, but in the end Serena was definitely the deserved winner of the US Open 2008!

The US Open 2008 champion and #1 in the world looks happy:

Jelena must be very disappointed she didn't close the 2nd set though. Mid-set Serena seemed to have lost her will and power and Jelena was up 40-0 serving for the set at 5-4. But Serena re-focused and found her powerful game again and closed the match 6-4, 7-5. Not dropping a single set throughout the tournament!

Serena's 3rd US Open title and her 9th Slam. Still a long, long way from Graf's Open Era record of 22 Slams, but Serena is fighting her way into the history books as one of the Greats.

Jelena had 4 chances to win the second set. Im very disappointed, but she has such a great attitude.

I love Jelena and her happy shiny tennis!

Congratulations to Serena.

Well done Murray what a win over Nadal, the Scot has taken his game to a new level,i think he will win the final in 5 sets.

Wimbledon
French Open
US Open
Australian Open

Thats the order i would put them in,but to tell you the truth they are all amazingly important tournements, and all have equally strong fields nowadays.

US Open 1968-77 was on American clay, then hard courts ever since.

Since 1988 when the Australian Open was switched to Jan it has been a massive event, and atlast all the top players came to play.

Aww well...Congrats to Serena, so unusual to see her celebrate a win like that. Jelena...her time will come.

I predicted the victory of Serena and a final Murray-Federer with Federer winning relatively easily, I was perfectly right, and in the top of all, I'm very, very happy for Mr Roger Federer, he is the man 8-)

Congrats to Roger Federer! 5 US Open titles in a row :o
The first man to get five in a row at both Wimbledon and US Open. 8-)

And they said his day was over! Still winning Slams, still #2 on the world rankings and #2 on the ATP race list. Sampras' record 14 Slams is still within reach!

I know Roger winning his fifth in a row is a big "Up Yours" to all the critics and fans who wrote him off and said he was past it. Well done to Roger and to Andy Murray too :D

Hey Cidermaster... I thought of you when Nadal lost to Murray... remember the thread when everybody was saying how much better Nadal was than Federer? Not that I don't think Nadal is an unbelievable athlete.. looks like he didn't do as much as some were sure of in that thread.

Yeh Federer is a worthy champion, and of course we must never forget one of the best players ever, infact without doubt the best hard court player ever,5 US Opens in a row,now that is unbelievable.

Federer was brilliant yesterday, and is a clear number 2 in the world, but Nadal is the 2008 number one,but not number one on hard courts.

As for Murray, well he is getting better and better, and will learn from this defeat and use it in a positive way, afterall it is not a disgrace to loose to a true all time great and super super star.

It reminds me of a young Ivan Lendl,he made a break through in 1980 winning tournements and reaching 2 Quarter finals of Grand slam events,at the end of the season he got to the Masters final in New York but was destroyed by Bjorn Borg 6-4 6-2 6-2.

Lendl learnt from that defest and went on to have an amazing career winning 8 grand slam titles in an era that included Borg,McEnroe,Conners,Edberg and Becker.

Did the women's final last longer than the mens final? I think the Womens final was just over 2 hours.

My friend just waited on Serena at her restaurant and I'm very sad to say that she was a stone cold bitch (or diva supreme)....My friend said she never acknowledged her as her server and she even wanted red bull that the restaurant does not serve and my friend went to the drug store to get it for her. My friend was standing right there taking the orders and Serena gave her order to her assistant who then relayed it to the server....The did leave her with an autograph ball though...
