I'm surprised we haven't had a thread chronicling the charts & sales of the wonderful Enya's new album. :o

Trains & Winter Rains is such an amazing and gorgeous single. I don't think this will outsell Amarantine worldwide, but chart information we do know so far:

Set to sell 85-95,000 copies in America this week, looking to hit the top 5 this week. :D :D

#7 on UK Midweeks. Previous album sold 352,194 copies in the UK.

Also #6 Japanese Midweeks! :D :D

Trains & Winter Rains has so far hit #15 in Italy & #12 on the Japanese Airplay chart. :D :D

This sales are amazing, considering it´s a seasonal album it might have increases week after week until Christmas, and will eventually keep re-entering the charts every year end, so in the end I believe it might outsell Amarantine.

Good figures so far.
I think it will enter top 10 in Spain as well, she is quite big here. This CD will by my xmas gift for my dad :D

Does anyone have soundscan figures for her previous albums, and UK sales?

Thanks!

Watermark was the first album in Spain to stay in the top 50 for over 100 weeks. Maybe other albums would have stayed in the top 50 over 100 weeks (such as Thriller, but there were only a top 30 at that time)
Shepherd Moons was 4xPlatinum, probably her best selling album in Spain.

#10 debut on the Italian Musica e dichi chart. I hope she's much higher on the REAL FIMI chart.

Enya is one of the few artists who release music infrequently but are so unique their fans always stick with them. I expect this will climb in Ireland as Christmas approaches.

I always wondered why she isn´t so big in her own country... Last time, with Amarantine she was Top 10 in lots of countries, including America, and peaked only Top 20 in Ireland...

Enya is a bit of a mythologic figure. I´ve never seen her on TV, never seen any of her videos on music channels, and never heard her music in mainstream radio (I guess they only play it as background in some spiritual messages that are played in some local radio stations here...). I´m also aware she never tours. However, for some strange reason, pretty much everyone knows her. I guess she could walk in the streets without being recognized, even tough she´s sold dozens of millions of records...

And she probably loves it like that. What's the point in being Madonna when you couldn't even go to the pub or to the shops or do anything by yourself.

Enya found a niche and stuck to it, regardless of whether she was thought of as cool. Good for her.

What's even more surprising was that the new Tracy Chapman album debuted at #5 in France today.
