My predictions for the top 5:
1 - Chelsea
2 - Liverpool
3 - Man Utd
4 - Arsenal
5 - Man City
I feel strongly the title will be won by either Chelsea or Liverpool this season. Our chances rest on how well Ancelotti adapts to the English game. We've strengthened the same squad that finished strongly last season under Hiddink with a couple of useful additions in Zhirkov and Sturridge. From watching the pre-season games it looks like we'll be playing a diamond formation with Drogba and Anelka both starting as out-and-out strikers upfront (....about time!)
Alonso will be an obvious miss for Liverpool, but I can't say I know that much about his replacement Aquilani so will be interested to see how that works out. Johnson is a curious signing.... I wasn't his biggest fan in his time at Chelsea - at times he was a real liability, but he seems to have benefited from more playing time at Portsmouth so perhaps is more prepared to play for a top 4 team now. Not really sure if Liverpool are stronger or not than last season yet.
Ronaldo will be a huge loss for Man U as not only was he their top scorer and best attacking player by a distance, his replacement Valencia isn't even close to being in the same league. I didn't overly rate Tevez so I don't think his departure is that big a problem for them. Owen is a bizarre signing given his injury record, but he may surprise us all and stay relatively fit this season with the World Cup looming!
Arsenal may have sold Toure and Adebayor to Man City, but I think its still a season too soon for City to break into the top 4. Even with Toure they still look a bit weak in defence, and with that many new signings will perhaps take a bit of time to gel. More than anything though I'm not sure Hughes is the right manager to fulfil their ambitions.
This might all change with more transfer activity but it's the way it's shaping up for me at the moment....
