Here we go!

ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart

JimJim's Thoughts

- Well my predicted top 10 wasn't too far off the mark, I had the correct 10 songs, but a bit of a jumble at the bottom end. 'TiK ToK' remains the country's favourite for another week, it will remain so next week also!

- Following behind, BEP are in at #2 again, meaning 4 acts have two appearances in the top 20; BEP (Meet Me Halfway, I Gotta Feeling), Pitbull (I Know You Want Me, Hotel Room Service), Jay-Z (Run This Town, Empire State of Mind) and technically Rihanna (Russian Roulette, Run This Town). Next week, I'm putting my money on Jay Sean and BEP doing a switcheroo, whilst 3OH!3 will be up to #4

- GaGa takes a small tumble without the video for support in the chart week, but now with an epic video, it should be stable, or perhaps up to #6 next week

- Meanwhile, looking to jump into the mix, Rihanna debuts in the 10-15 region as expected and should be up to #5 next week on the back of strong iTunes sales over the weekend and a timely video release

- The least biggest surprise of the week is Orianthi's big bullet, thanks to ongoing 'This Is It' promo and radio eating it up, 'According to You' should be up to #15 next week

- Biggest shock of the week is the lack of an Owl City debut, bubbling under at #52 this week, alas, it means he'll make a nice debut of #38 next week

- Speaking of Owl City, his US chart battle buddy, Jason DeRulo, looks to be a strong top 10 contender, in at #40 this week, he'll bullet to #24 next week

- John Mayer will be relatively stable, but Robbie Williams will fall after this week's album release spike for 'Bodies'

- 'Art of Love' is still a hit in the waiting, really needs a clip, but the Idol finale promo should sell it well

- A possible debut next week is Fall Out Boy's 'Alpha Dog', which is likely to only chart for 2-3 weeks IMO, most likely now whilst the GH is peaking.

- Speaking of the GH, there's a virgin music store inside the place I work, they have these new releases for their in-store sales display; #1 Powderfinger, #2 Fall Out Boy, #3 ?, #4 Britney's SC, #5 ?, #6 Glee

- As for this week's album chart, my predictions were hit and miss, Robbie and Glee debut as expected at #1 and #3 respectively, whilst Lee goes lower than expected, and Bon Jovi and Vanessa go higher than expected

And that's it for this week icon_wink.gif

Wolfmother - Cosmic Egg: Platinum (70 000 copies shipped)
P!nk - Funhouse: 10 x Platinum (700 000 copies shipped)

Another week, another #1 album! Robbie Williams scores his fourth chart topper with his newie, knocking Foo Fighters, down to #2. A couple of entries from Glee Cast & Bon Jovi come in at #3 and #4. Vanessa Amorosi enters at #7, three places lower than Somewhere In The Real World.

Rod Stewart's Soulbook just misses out on a Top 10 debut at #11 and Oz country singer Lee Kernaghan comes in at #13. Guy Sebastian & Muse suffer a 7-drop places. Creedence Clearwater Revival's GH reaches a new peak, up four to #22, followed by The Beatles' Box Set, up a BIG 22 spots.

Next entry comes from Creed at #27. Greatest Hits packages were still a popular pick by music buyers this week as Robbie Williams, Abba, Bruce Springsteen, The Doors, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac & Crowded House climb / re enter the Top 50.

Amongst of all of this, Britney is up 8 to #29 thanks to her current aussie tour. The 12th Man's box set is new at #37. Lily Allen & Muse's previous albums re enter at #47 and #48 respectively.

Next week, another HUGE round of new releases. Powderfinger should easily be #1. Them Crooked Vulture may come right behind at #2, followed by AC/DC's collection of rarities & out-takes should land at #3.

Shell's music heartthrob John Mayer has been doing well on pre orders and on iTunes since Friday. Thanks to his promo trip in Australia a few weeks ago, he should debut higher than he did with Continuum (#12 in 2006), perhaps around the #6 spot. Norah Jones will land at the bottom of the Top 10.

Britney's joke of a GH won't do that well, coming around the #15 spot. Same for Fall Out Boy, Leona Lewis & Ronan Keating. Taylor Swift, P!nk & Lily Allen should remain stable or at least suffer small drops with their platinum, collector & deluxe editions of their albums.

That's all from me this week.

Sorry to bump this but I've just noticed that ARIA now has a Top 50 Catalogue Albums Chart icon_eek.gif .

It mustn't be updated as it's the chart from August 31st. Good idea from ARIA to have this chart but I hope that they won't exclude prevent old albums from charting in the main albums chart.

It must be something new though cos it wasn't on the ARIA website last week.

Here are more informations about this chart given by Bulion @ australiancharts.com:
Quote:
The new catalogue chart's information is included in the overall Top 100 albums.

The No.1 catalogue album is the Creedence "Chronicle" set, which is No.22 in the Top 100.

These are albums which have been released more than the past two years, but are still selling.

It was apparently released yesterday in Australia, so it will only chart next week.

EDIT: And there's now a digital album chart icon_eek.gif .

It should chart as a CD, like Paramore's 'The Final Riot!'

Idol winner singles just premiered on the show, obviously strong contenders for #1 in coming weeks given the Idol's history...

Stan Walker // Black Box, a mid-tempo sort of pop/r&b number

Hayley Warner // Good Day, a Paramore-sounding pop/rock track

Stan is more likely to win, but I think Hayley's single sounded better and is already stuck in my head. They won't be competing on the chart this week, they have an initial download release next Sunday night on Bandit, I imagine iTunes will be in following days.

(Oh and the fact that I've mentioned Paramore twice in this thread is purely coincidental, I assure you lol)

This week's sales (thanks to auspOp):
Quote:
SINGLES : Ke$ha's debut solo single 'Tik Tok' strengthens it's hold on the Aussie singles chart this week, and with copies of the physical single arriving in stores early, it's sold 13,866 copies to remain on top for a second week. The Black Eyed Peas are in the No.2 spot again with 'Meet Me Halfway' (11,015 sales), while Jay Sean moves up to No.3 with 'Down' (10,015 copies), Vanessa Amorosi stays put at No.4 (8435 sales) and 3OH!3 with Katy Perry rises into the top five with 'Starstrukk', courtesy of a decent 7781 sales.
Lady Gaga slips to No.7, Britney's back up slightly and Rihanna scores the highest debut of the week with her new single 'Russian Roulette'. It debuts at No.11 on the back of 5550 sales.
The buzz around Robbie Williams' new album and forthcoming visit sees his track 'Bodies' back up four places this week - to No.14 with 3663 sales, while Jay-Z and Alicia Keys debut in the No.20 position with 'Empire State Of Mind' (2989 sales).
Michael Jackson's guitarist Orianthi bullets to No.23 with her debut single 'According To You' (2666 sales) and John Mayer rises six places to No.31 with 'Who Says' (1846 copies).
The Glee Cast can do no wrong - it seems everything they sing seems to end up in the ARIA top 100 - and this week it's 'Sweet Caroline's turn. The Neil Diamond cover is up from No.76 to No.37 with 1542 sales.
New to the top 50 are at No.39 - Jason DeRulo's 'Whatcha Say' (1519 sales), No.40 - Timbaland's 'Morning After Dark' (1462) and returning are Leona Lewis ('Happy' at No.44 with 1376 sales), Michael Buble ('Haven't Met You Yet' at No.46 with 1348 sales) and Beyonce ('Sweet Dreams' at No.47 with 1342 sales).
Outside the top 50 and Owl City's current US No.1 'Fireflies' seems to be finding favour with local audiences - it's gained an impressive 35 places this week to come in at No.52 (1296 sales), Ian Carey's made up the same number of chart places - from No.96 last week to No.61 this week - with 'Shot Caller' (1028 sales), Lily Allen's 'Who'd Have Known' moves up to No.66 (976 sales) and even though his album's not yet on the local horizon, Canadian teen star Justin Bieber's debut single 'One Time' debuts at No.82 with 739 sales.

ALBUMS : Was it going to be Bon Jovi, Vanessa Amorosi or even the Glee Cast that bagged the coveted No.1 spot on this week's album charts? It turned out to be neither, with Robbie Williams beating them all off with a stick to debut at No.1 with 'Reality Killed The Video Star'. But even though he debuted atop the Aussie albums chart, he didn't do it as convincingly and many would've thought. He sold a meagre 12,276 copies of his new album last week to nab the No.1 spot.
The Foo Fighters' greatest hits package, last week's No.1, slipped to No.2 with 11,470 copies sold in it's second week in.
The 'Volume 1' soundtrack to hit TV series 'Glee' debuted at No.3 with 9180 sales, while Bon Jovi debuted at No.4 with their new album 'The Circle' (8491 copies).
Also on the debut this week was Vanessa Amorosi and her new album 'Hazardous'. 6597 fans popped out to the shops last week to pick up a copy, on the back of the success of lead single 'This Is Who I Am'. Rod Stewart popped in just outside the top ten - at No.11 - with latest album 'Soulbook' selling 4735 copies and country star Lee Kernaghan saw his new album 'Planet Country' debut at (an unlucky for some) No.13 with 3610 sales.
The Beatles' limited edition boxset raced up the chart this week - 22 places higher at No.23 (1923 sales), while Slayer fans deserted them in their second week - down from No.9 last week to No.25 this.
Creed popped in at No.27 with new long player 'Full Circle' (1866 sales), The Doors and Britney both rose into places #28 and #29 respectively and the new 'Box Set' by the 12th Man sells 1624 copies to debut at No.34.
With heavy discounting and 'two for one' deals available at Australia's leading retailers, some classic albums and greatest hits packages have made their way back into the top 50. Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits, Abba's '18 Hits', Neil Young's Greatest Hits and Lily Allen's 'Alright, Still' just four to do so.
Beyond the top 50, Snow Patrol's retrospective 'Up To Now' debuts at No.54 with 1233 sales, Rammstein's album 'Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da' plummets 35 places to No.55, Kasey Chambers debuts at No.58 with 'The Little Hillbillies' project (1210 sales), Whitley's album drops from No.27 to No.65 and Matt Tilley's 'Gotcha Calls' charity album plunges from No.23 to No.67.
Five more top 100 debuts come courtesy of Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' at No.80 (944 sales), Bee Gees ('Ultimate Bee Gees' at No.87 - 860 sales), Orianthi ('Believe' at No.88 - 855 sales), Diana Krall (Best Of at No.92 - 840 sales) and Cat Stevens ('Tea For The Tillerman' at No.95 with 830 copies bagged).
