Gotta throw some love behind "Steady As She Goes" and "Come Undone"... as well as the late great George Harrison, and of course the GLC.

You knows it, bra!

Great presentation Misha! Must be taking you forever to do it though.

Yay/semi yay for all these so far:

999 Pharrell Williams featuring Jay-Z - Frontin'
990 The Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (I personally charted it in the Retarded version....not a huge fan of it now, nor most BEP songs.)
988 The Script - We Cry (I still don't get why this nor The Man Who Can't Be Moved weren't hits in Australia and the relatively boring Breakeven was, but go figure.)
984 Jamiroquai - Little L
983 Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out (Can't believe this is as low as it is!)
979 George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
978 Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance
969 The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes

May check out some of the stuff I don't know later.

960 Steps – When I Said Goodbye / Summer Of Love
entry date: 15/07/2000
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 11

In 2000/2001 Steps didn’t have as much success as in 1998/1999, but still managed to score 7 top 5 hits and leave undefeated. This double a-side was released in summer of 2000, and “Summer Of Love” was just a great summer song, wasn’t it?

Image
959 Craig David – Hot Stuff (Let’s Dance)
entry date: 10/11/2007
peak: 7
weeks in top 75: 12

One of the most prolific artists of the Noughties, Craig David opens his top 1000 run with his last top 10 single to date. It sampled David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and got far more successful than the Hi_Tack single of the same year which also used the famous Bowie classic.

Image
958 Hear’Say - Everybody
entry date: 08/12/2001
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 11

Third single to come from the UK’s first winners of then new kind of reality show, while showing they’re not invincible chart-wise, still performed strongly enough to ensure them a position here. This song is even lighter than Steps.

Image
957 Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band – The Official BBC Children In Need Medley
entry date: 28/11/2009
peak: 1
weeks in top 75: 5

Well, we all remember this one, don’t we? One of the most recent songs to make top 1000, this charity release combined a number of cultural stamps and recent hits to an effect that mostly works as a video and hardly as an actual piece of music.

Image
956 Eiffel 65 – Move Your Body
entry date: 19/02/2000
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

After “Blue” was a #1 smash in most countries, who would imagine they had an actual second hit in them? Well, they did, and although it wasn’t all that different to the big one, it still fared quite well and brought them into the 2000s quite nicely.

Image
955 Sean Paul – Like Glue
entry date: 06/09/2003
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

Arguably one of the biggest pop-reggae sensations of the decade (well-forgotten by now), Sean Paul had a sizeable run of top 10 hits, of which this was the third. Top 15 hit in the States.

Image
954 Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love
entry date: 01/08/2009
peak: 16 (in 2009)
weeks in top 75: 16 (in 2009)

Another very recent track, this song is actually still in the UK top 10 as I write this and by far beats the peak it scored in 2009, so you can well expect it in the top 1000 of the 2010s. Third “proper” single from Florence and 5th overall, this is the cover of the thrice charting in top 10 famous Source single.

Image
953 Omarion – Ice Box
entry date: 17/02/2007
peak: 14
weeks in top 75: 12

Omarion is a member of B2K and the only one of them to get any solo career, and this was his biggest hit in the UK, not in the last place because it was produced (and slightly back-sung) by Timbaland.

Image
952 Martine McCutcheon – I’m Over You
entry date: 04/11/2000
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

In 1999 the EastEnders star hit it big with “Perfect Moment” becoming a huge #1. She even managed to follow it with 4 more top 10 hits, of which this was the biggest. It would give her another #1, if not for… Spice Girls.

Image
951 R. Kelly – If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time
entry date: 30/10/1999
peak: 2 (overall), 12 (in 2000)
weeks in top 75: 12 (in 2000)

Now this is quite unusual – a carryon from 1999, this lush ballad from the alleged paedophile spent no less than 21 weeks in charts altogether, of which 12 were in 2000, securing it a top 1000 position.

Image
950 Pharrell featuring Gwen Stefani – Can I Have It Like That
entry date: 12/11/2005
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 11

While “Frontin’” was a one-off release, this song started the promotion for his actual solo album which followed in 2006, and he got no less than figure than Gwen to agree with him on the song. This is his biggest entry as leading solo artist.

Image
949 Sugababes – Red Dress
entry date: 18/03/2006
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 10

Apparently they’re cooler than the red dress. Good for them. First entry for the Babes in top 1000, this was the third single off “Taller In More Ways” and the beginning of Amelle’s career.

Image
948 S Club 7 - Natural
entry date: 23/09/2000
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 16

It’s all about pop groups in this section, isn’t it? Another top 1000 debut here, this was the group’s 5 straight top 3 hit and actually their smallest ever under that name.

Image
947 DJ Aligator Project – The Whistle Song (Blow My Whistle Bitch)
entry date: 19/01/2002
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 10

Ahh, I miss the days when the word “bitch” in a song was supposed to sound offensive. Still the pioneer of whistling and dirty puns of the Noughties, the Iranian-Danish producer enjoyed his top 5 hit all thanks to the famous All Around The World label.

Image
946 Britney Spears - Stronger
entry date: 16/12/2000
peak: 7
weeks in top 75: 10

And finally a debut for Britney with this famous chair-dancing song. Ahh, she was so young back then… And still pretending to be naïve, too. Third single off “Oops” rounded nicely her second year of hitmaking with her 7th straight top 10 hit.

Image
945 Girls Aloud – The Show
entry date: 10/07/2004
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

Really, we’re all about pop groups here. Another top 1000 debut comes from the biggest girlgroup of the decade (sorry Sugababes). “The Show” was the lead single off the Girls’ 2nd album “What Will The Neighbours Say?”. You can expect plenty more from them.

Image
944 Busted – Who’s David
entry date: 28/02/2004
peak: 1
weeks in top 75: 10

Time to lose another #1 hit, and this was somewhat expected, since Busted’s #1s were here-today-gone-tomorrow on charts (less so than McFly’s though, heh). Second single off “A Present For Everyone” and their third #1 overall.

Image
943 Amy Studt - Misfit
entry date: 21/06/2003
peak: 6
weeks in top 75: 10

This might come as a (pleasant) surprise to many, but here she is, the “British Avril” that never managed to explore her potential to the fullest. She’s still out there, making music. Good for her.

Image
942 Liberty X – Holding On For You
entry date: 14/12/2002
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 11

Second entry for Liberty X, and this was the third single off highly successful “Thinking It Over” album, following in the steps of “Just A Little” and “Got To Have Your Love”. This sweet ballad was released around Christmas and had a respectable top 5 placing out of it.

Image
941 Nelly featuring Fergie – Party People
entry date: 26/04/2008
peak: 14
weeks in top 75: 11

Despite landing quite some way out of top 10, this recent Nelly single managed to outchart some of his top 10 hits due to a lengthy run. Fergie’s guest spot didn’t hurt either.

0960 Faryl Smith – Faryl [2009]
0959 Mariah Carey – E=mc2 [2008]
0958 James Taylor – You’ve Got A Friend: The Best Of [2003]
0957 Obie Trice – Cheers [2003]
0956 Massive Attack – 1000th Window [2003]
0955 Andrea Bocelli – Sogno [1999]
0954 Basement Jaxx – Kish Kash [2003]
0953 Andrea Bocelli – Romanza [1997]
0952 Taio Cruz – Departure [2008]
0951 Enya – Amarantine [2005]

0950 Rod Stewart – Soulbook [2009]
0949 Gabrielle – Play To Win [2004]
0948 Wet Wet Wet – The Greatest Hits [2004]
0947 Ray Quinn – Doing It My Way [2007]
0946 Hayley Westenra – Odyssey (special edition) [2006]
0945 The Pussycat Dolls – Doll Domination: Mini Collection [2009]
0944 Jane McDonald – Inspiration [2000]
0943 Status Quo – Pictures: 40 Years Of Hits [2008]
0942 Damien Rice – 9 [2006]
0941 Paramore – Riot! [2007]

Another 4 of my collection in that last 20 singles!

And by the way - I wouldn't say O-Town were responsible for opening the gates to all the reality TV bands to chart in the UK - Hear'Say had crashed into the UK chart a whole month before them! And good ol' Myleene Klass is still in the news, waving kitchen knives at teenagers through French windows in Hertfordshire.

What do I like from the last two lots?

I only like O-Town from the 980 - 961 section, Liquid Dreams is very catchy.

As for the last lot, lots of songs in there I have on iTunes and like:

Eiffel 65 - So catchy! This and their third single (Too Much Of Heaven) were awesome.

Sugababes - Not my fave Babes track, but still great.

S Club 7 - Awesome song! Rachel sounds great <3

Britney - Stronger is a great song, very fiesty!

The Aloud - YAY! The Show is fantastic, and deserved #1 IMO.

Busted - Who's David is my fave from them, so woo :D

Liberty X - This is a good LX song not like "Song 4 Lovers" bleh. This is a gorgeous song <3

As for the albums, I have none of them but PCD's mini collection thingy can have a woo.
The guy in my av is Dean Ambrose, WWE's current United States Champion and my current crush ♥

Great to see Amy Studt in there! Also good to see Damien Rice's album in there, and dare-I-say-it some good Steps and S Club tunes!

Less good to see the likes of Jane McDonald, "Can I Have It Like That?" and DJ Aligator in this list!

Image
940 Dannii Minogue – I Begin To Wonder
entry date: 15/03/2003
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 11

The other Minogue sister gets slightly ahead of her more famous sibling appearing in this top 1000, and proving how much less a hitmaker she is. Still, you can’t deny that she had a minor-revival in 2003, which she honestly tried to milk for as many hits as possible. This is her biggest offering as the leading artist though.

Image
939 Fall Out Boy – Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
entry date: 14/04/2007
peak: 12
weeks in top 75: 12

This title turned out to be somewhat prophetic, didn’t it? By the end of the decade they were dismissed entirely, together with the decline of the emo movement, and this was their last top 20 hit. So, thanks for the memories, guys. You were entertaining.

Image
938 Girls Aloud – The Loving Kind
entry date: 27/12/2008
peak: 10
weeks in top 75: 12

Second entry for the Girls, and a very recent one too. The newly discovered gentle sound is heard distinctively here, and the touches of the Pet Shop Boys songwriting are evident. At the moment this is their last top 10 hit.

Image
937 Natasha Bedingfield - Single
entry date: 15/05/2004
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

Another famous sister enters here, and the one who somewhat “outfamoused” her brother Daniel. This was her debut single and a rather bold statement in the obsessed with love world of music. An “anti-love song” if you want.

Image
936 Sergio Mendes featuring The Black Eyed Peas – Mas Que Nada
entry date: 24/06/2006
peak: 6
weeks in top 75: 10

The famous Brazilian musician attempted a Santana-sized comeback by reinventing his signature tune and invited the Black Eyed Peas to perform newly written lyrics. No further singles followed…

Image
935 Celine Dion – A New Day Has Come
entry date: 23/03/2002
peak: 7
weeks in top 75: 10

And we have a not too surprising faller here, as this is by far the only entry for the lady who defined the 90s music and her only top 10 hit of the entire decade. In fact, it was her first top 10 hit since THAT Titanic hit became her, er, gift and curse. This was the first single off the eponymous album.

Image
934 Pink featuring William Orbit – Feel Good Time
entry date: 19/07/2003
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 11

While it wasn’t as huge as the hit Destiny’s Child got from the first Charlie’s Angels film, Pink can’t really be disappointed after scoring a top 3 hit with this one. The single is notable for giving an official co-credit to William Orbit, the man who once made Madonna hip again.

Image
933 Westlife – The Rose
entry date: 18/11/2006
peak: 1
weeks in top 75: 7

And we welcome everyone’s favourite Irish manband to the top 1000. They open their run with their last to date #1 hit, this cover of Bette Midler’s classic hit promoted their “Love Album” – the album of classic love songs. No further singles followed from it.

Image
932 Kylie Minogue – Slow
entry date: 15/11/2003
peak: 1
weeks in top 75: 10

Second #1 hit in a row, it is Kylie, quickly following her sister’s own first entry in top 1000. After the success of her album “Fever”, she could really do no wrong and could make a #1 out of anything. So she did. It did fall rather fast though.

Image
931 Blazin’ Squad – Flip Reverse
entry date: 15/11/2003
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

In the world of coincidences, this is actually the song that “Slow” stopped from becoming a second #1 for these boys. Guess the justice is made and “Flip Reverse” charts one place higher despite the almost identical run. On the other hand, you all know Kylie, and who remembers them?

Image
930 Basshunter – Angel In The Night
entry date: 13/09/2008
peak: 14
weeks in top 75: 12

As you’ve probably noticed, as far as recent entries go, we’re losing top 15 hits alongside #1s from early in the decade. Sadly this is how it’s gonna work…
Basshunter made it all happen for himself in one year and milked his sudden popularity for 3 big hits in a row. This one, despite not making top 10, still had a respectable run and brought endless joy to the Chart Show’s hosts.

Image
929 Manic Street Preachers – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
entry date: 05/05/2007
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

Well, if anything, it is still very nice to see the Manics with a chart run long enough to ensure them a top 1000 placing. This single, featuring an uncredited presence of the Cardigans’ Nina Persson, became at the moment their last true pop hit.

Image
928 Lemar – It’s Not That Easy
entry date: 09/09/2006
peak: 7
weeks in top 75: 11

Those accusing Lemar in being a one-trick pony may well be onto something, as this is yet another story of rejected love and broken heart. Even if he does it so well. First single off his third album returned him into top 10 – at the moment for the last time.

Image
927 Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem – Almost Here
entry date: 12/02/2005
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

Now here’s an interesting duet – the Irish and the Aussie. For both artists it was a needed boost in popularity, however, neither really managed to capitalize on it, as it still stands as Delta’s last charting single in the UK and Brian only barely scraped top 30 with his next offering.

Image
926 Groove Armada – Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)
entry date: 14/07/2007
peak: 8
weeks in top 75: 11

The last bunch was all about popgroups, this one is all about collaborations. Former Sugababe (these words are getting too familiar) Mutya Buena guests on the song that was, according to the title, written especially for her, the song that gives the famous electronic duo their biggest UK hit to date. Their only entry in top 1000 as well.

Image
925 Sash! – Adelante
entry date: 12/02/2000
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

It does feel like we’re in the 90s, doesn’t it? Unlike many peers, German DJ Sash! managed at least another year of hitmaking and on his way scored his fifth UK #2 hit and expanded his multilingual hits collection with his second hit in Spanish.

Image
924 Steps – Words Are Not Enough / I Know Him So Well
entry date: 15/12/2001
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 11

The swansong (or, rather, swan-double-a-side) from Steps was released in late 2001, so since 2002 we’re completely Stepsless. While “Words Are Not Enough” was a brand new song, “I Know Him So Well” was, of course, the cover of the famous duet between Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson.

Image
923 The Kooks – Always Where I Need To Be
entry date: 05/04/2008
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

The Kooks’ highest peaking hit was by no means their biggest, much overshadowed by their other two top 10 hits, but, as the first single off their sophomore effort, it did what it was supposed to do.

Image
922 R.E.M. – The Great Beyond
entry date: 05/02/2000
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

R.E.M. never really went away this decade and even had 3 further top 10 hits, but their biggest one was this one, released very early in 2000, promoting the Jim Carrey starring biopic “Man On The Moon” (named after R.E.M.’s own hit) about the controversial US comedian Andy Kaufman. No wonder the band was invited to write the soundtrack for the film. This is their only entry in top 1000.

Image
921 Nelly Furtado – Turn Off The Light
entry date: 01/09/2001
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 10

From the pre-Timbaland days of Nelly’s career comes this song, her second single to hit the UK and the one that peaked even higher than “I’m Like A Bird”, but was more of a come-and-go affair.

Another 5 from my collection in that last 20 singles, I think!

Turn Off The Light was a revelation for me, after the rather unsatisfying bluster of "I'm Like A Bird". I loved the track, I loved the sentiment, I loved the lyrics, I loved the beat, I loved the girl, I loved the swagger, I loved the video.

Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control) - it would be incorrect to say it was the best track recorded either by Groove Armada or by Mutya, but I'd place it very close to the top of the list for both artists! Like the Furtado track I just mentioned, this is a well-crafted song and a very enjoyable pop record.

Slow - in contention with "Tears On My Pillow" to rank as her poorest Number One, I'd say. An interesting track on the first few listens, it didn't have much legs unfortunately - something you couldn't say about the visually arresting video, though! Sounds good again after a long absence of not hearing it, but ultimately, a disappointing comedown from the lady making a comeback after making THE comeback of the decade.

A New Day Has Come - well, I've never hidden the fact that I was struck down with a terrible affliction circa 1991 - a Celine Dion obsession. It had gone well into remission though by the end of the 1990s, and while I still bought her albums up til a few years back when I finally gave up on her, I have to admit a huge liking for this track. I know from previous discussions about the track on here that most people don't see the appeal, but I'd almost go so far as to say it is the best single she ever released - and even if the whole track appears (to me, at least) to be lumbered with an awkward Christian metaphor, I still love the quiet (and restrained) euphoria of the track. A Christian, Christmas song hidden in the clothes of a Celine Dion ballad? You better believe it!

I Begin To Wonder - Dannii's 2002/2003 revival was, in my eyes, a good thing, even if this isn't the best track to emerge from that brief purple patch. The lady works in fits and starts - she'd had a brief Xenomania/Trouser Enthusiasts inspired revival circa 1997/98, too. We must be due another revival soon? Doesn't the lady realise she should have cashed in her X-Factor chips??

I'd probably have liked The Loving Kind a bit more if it had worn its Pet Shop Boys heart a bit more boldly on its sleeve; Natasha Bedingfield had better singles, so I'll wait for her higher positions before attacking her (only kidding!); Mas Que Nada was a nice rework of that old classic (which had been covered in rival versions back in 1998, too) - what a distance from this to "Boom Boom Pow"! I'll take Mas Que Nada anyday; Given its progenitors, Feel Good Time turned out to be a complete disappointment; that said, I never was (and still am not) a huge Pink fan, though she does do a good live show; Adelante was perhaps the weakest of Sash's string of hits - amazing that he was able to sustain such a long run, with other (and some would say more deserving) acts of some similarity, such as ATB, fell by the wayside; REM deserve a mention if only because there will be no further opportunity to namecheck them, "The Great Beyond" was a nice track.

Mylo's Destroy Rock 'n' Roll is one of the few albums mentioned to date that I own - and it's a record I love. Milked for hits, but they all sound good. Makes you wonder why almost six years have passed since its initial release with no sign of a comeback album.

I'm pretty sure this chart will be dominated by 2007-2009 songs since its based on chart-runs.

The last bunch is rather average, nothing much that's amazing, but nothing terrible either.

920 Eminem – Mockingbird
entry date: 14/05/2005
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 12

Eminem switches moods like gloves, doesn’t he? A slight step back from the crazy and this dedication to his daughter Hayley is almost sweet. If only he didn’t kill the bird in the end… 3rd single from “Encore”.

Image
919 Gwen Stefani – Wind It Up
entry date: 16/12/2006
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

Stealing the almost unfairly catchy yodeling beat from no less than “The Sound Of Music”, Gwen Stefani opened her second solo album with a bang, despite getting somewhat lukewarm response. Somewhat a quick faller at that era for an artist of that caliber.

Image
918 Artful Dodger featuring Lifford – Please Don’t Turn Me On
entry date: 25/11/2000
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 10

Artful Dodger were one of the most successful acts to emerge in the garage era and clocked no less than 5 top 10 hits on their way. This was their forth and features the vocals by Lifford (who is NOT the county town in Ireland, despite what wikipedia might make you think), the singer of Public Demand, who had a #41 hit in 1997.

Image
917 Goldfrapp – Ooh La La
entry date: 20/08/2005
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 13

It took Goldfrapp some patience, change of attitude and style before they finally managed to struck gold in 2005 with their third album “Supernature”. This was the first single from it, and it made top 5 much to everyone’s shock, and it pretty much stands as their only pop hit, despite two more crash-and-burn top 10 hits. This is their only entry, anyway.

Image
916 Ricky Martin with Christina Aguilera – Nobody Wants To Be Lonely
entry date: 10/03/2001
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 12

When the forces join… well, this happens. The duet of Ricky and Christina was somewhat untimely, as it happened when the Latin fever almost ended, but at least it gave Ricky his last to date top 5 hit.

Image
915 Westlife – Tonight / Miss You Nights
entry date: 05/04/2003
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

More Westlife here, and this single was the second lifted from their “Unbreakable” hits collection. Not much else can be said here except that “Miss You Nights” is an unusual choice of a cover version, the original being a minor top 15 hit for one of the biggest jokes of the decade, Sir Ciff Richard.

Image
914 Vengaboys – Shalala Lala
entry date: 11/03/2000
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 10

This single was the group’s lowest charting at that moment and it only got worse from that point. So that’s basically what it can be remembered for. The beginning of the end.

Image
913 Moloko – The Time Is Now
entry date: 01/04/2000
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

It only feels right seeing Moloko alongside Goldfrapp, since you can’t argue the influences here. This #2 hit was their only real attempt to capitalize on the success of remixed “Sing It Back” from 1999, and it is by far their biggest hit of the decade. Hence, no more top 1000 entries for them either. At least both did better than Frou Frou…

Image
912 Dido – Thank You
entry date: 02/06/2001
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 10

Of course, you remember the story of Eminem accidentally turning Dido into a worldwide superstar and that this was the song he was inspired by. Second single for her and a good reminder of the days when she couldn’t lose.

Image
911 Gorillaz – 19/2000
entry date: 07/07/2001
peak: 6
weeks in top 75: 10

Didn’t we all love their videos back in the day? Second single release for Gorillaz is known in both original version heard in the video and the Soulchild remix that the radio stations used. Nowhere as big as “Clint Eastwood”, but a novelty tale breaker if anything.

Image
910 Cam’ron featuring Juelz Santana – Hey Ma
entry date: 08/02/2003
peak: 8
weeks in top 75: 10

Following the success of “Oh Boy”, Cam’ron released this song, that is thankfully not a story of wooing older gals, despite what the title might suggest. His biggest hit, it also featured the guest spot from Juelz Santana, whose biggest success was, of course, his appearance of Chris Brown’s debut smash.

Image
909 Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi
entry date: 28/12/2002
peak: 8
weeks in top 75: 9

Grammatically painful title of this song I can only see as an attempt to make it… slightly more complicated (no pun intended), as the song itself just couldn’t be simpler. 2nd single off her debut, this was top 10 around Christmas 2002, hence got some extra time up in the charts.

Image
908 A1 – Take On Me
entry date: 09/09/2000
peak: 1
weeks in top 75: 11

And our only #1 hit of this bunch is by A1. The long gone boyband spent 1999 building up the hype and with the first single from the new album, which is also a cover of the classic hit for a-ha, they couldn’t go wrong and hit #1 with ease. Never mind how fast they fell though.

Image
907 George Michael – Amazing
entry date: 13/03/2004
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 11

It is pretty amazing actually, to see George Michael in this chart. While he never felt too absent from the public eye, he couldn’t exactly produce any big hits, and this was his biggest success and his only top 5 hit of the decade. Lifted from his #1 album “Patience”.

Image
906 Embrace – Nature’s Law
entry date: 01/04/2006
peak: 2
weeks in top 75: 10

Let’s watch some big names missing top 900, shall we? Embrace were resurrected by the loving heart of Chris Martin and his song “Gravity” gave them quite a big hit in 2004, and everyone held their breath for their gimmickless follow-up. So it delivered their biggest hit and, as it tends to happen, it went downhill from there. An indie anthem of 2006, this is their only top 1000 entry.

Image
905 Lady GaGa - LoveGame
entry date: 22/08/2009
peak: 19
weeks in top 75: 14

Oh my, a #19 hit? Of course, since it’s GaGa it can be understood. 4th single off the amazingly big “The Fame” underperformed just a little bit, but, indeed, it still was a long runner enough to make the top 1000.

Image
904 Primal Scream – Country Girl
entry date: 27/05/2006
peak: 5
weeks in top 75: 13

Another indie classic from 2006 here, and it’s a rather surprising one. Primal Scream lived a happy life of heroes of the underground and stopped dreaming of a top 10 hit long time ago, and suddenly they reinvented themselves as a raunchy rock band and, whoops, scored their biggest hit in the UK. They didn’t have any other top 20 hits this decade though.

Image
903 Empire Of The Sun – We Are The People
entry date: 23/05/2009
peak: 14
weeks in top 75: 15

Another result of a prolonged chart run, the Aussie duo scored their only top 40 hit to date last year, won plenty of ARIA awards on the way and the jury is still open regarding them getting another top 40 hit in the UK.

Image
902 Travis – Sing
entry date: 09/06/2001
peak: 3
weeks in top 75: 14

Travis sold millions of albums in 1999-2001, and even managed to finally get a top 3 hit with this single, but, of course, this rock classic (yes, it’s naff, but still a classic) becomes their only top 1000 entry.

Image
901 N-Trance – Set You Free
entry date: 22/09/2001
peak: 4
weeks in top 75: 12

Finally something from the world of dance music. The classic 1994/1995 hit got a new treatment in 2001 and made the top 5 for the 2nd time thanks to a brand new set of remixes, the leading of which created by Rob Searle, the man who was also behind the third coming of Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Loads of great songs there, especially Gorillaz, Embrace, N-Trance, EOTS and Travis.
Also good to some Westlife tunes out pretty early in the process
