Welcome welcome welcome to the results show for round 1! I made the scoring very simple:
1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 9 points
...
11th place = 0 points

I averaged together the public's votes and combined them into one ranking. So the public counts as one judge essentially.

Now onto RESULTS

This round there was a clear winner. 1st place goes to...

And now for the bottom two. I had trouble deciding which method to use, the one where the entry with the most last places gets voted out or just average the rankings. Despite this going against what I want, I decided averaging is the fairest. And so the contestant who lives to see another day is...

Well, clearly, I'm happy to be through to the next stage, but 'I May Be So Young', was one of my favourites and thought that, with some tuning and a tidy up, it would've been a good song.

I wish I could steal the general idea behind it, and use it for my own. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you in this competition next year, with a more mature mind, and more life experience, to use as inspiration in your future songwriting :)

Btw, cant wait to hear next weeks theme, I want to step on it and get writing!

Shame I May Be So Young got voted out, as I quite liked it. :( Hopefully Interacoin will be back for more next time around!

Can't wait for the theme 8-) I already have some ideas, hopefully I'll be able to tie them in with whatever the theme of the week is. :D

Okay, here is the theme for this week. You are to write either a serious, critical song or a parody that centers around a certain issue or topic in the real world. A good example of a serious one would be Not Ready to Make Nice by The Dixie Chicks. You can write about Lindsay Lohan if you want. Do it however you like as long as it essentially centers around a certain real world topic/issue. You have until next week, the Wednesday, the 14th, to get your entries in! :)

Feel free to ask any questions if you are confused.

Not a bad result for me, I guess. Commiserations, insertacoin, but hopefully you'll come back fierce next time 8-)

So how do the public votes work, then? And the points system? Do the judge's votes take precedence over the public's?

Yeah, insertacoin's entry is okay. Quite surprised he was eliminated.

Love the theme.. but I don't have any particular topic in mind. Hmmm.

I absolutely LOVE #9's entry. I think I have quite a good idea of who wrote it as well. But I will keep my mouth shut.

I remember doing this in 2008 I think. I won the first round and then ended up out by the fourth.

Pretty simple. I find the public's votes by adding up the point totals of all the people who vote. For example...
Voter 1 puts contestant #2 in 1st place, Voter 2 puts contestant #2 in 2nd place, and Voter 3 puts contestant #2 in 4th place. So I add together the point values of each place (for this round: 10 + 9 + 7) to get the total of 26 points for that contestant. I find the sum for all the contestants and rank them from biggest to lowest. So basically I am averaging the rankings.

The public counts as one judge, so basically we have four judges, each accounting for 25% of the votes. Everyone has equal say in those terms. Again I add together the four rankings to give a total score and rank them from highest to lowest. If it ever comes down to a tie, the contestant with the most last placings will be eliminated.

I stayed up until 3AM writing my song, and am now really tired today

I was thinking, no, if I stop writing now, i'll lose my trail of thought by next time I start writing again!

Pretty happy with my results, shame insertacoin is gone as they were really keen to take part right from the last year!

Not sure about the new theme, am better with serious stuff but the parodies WILL be better recieved (if written well), they always are. Thinking time...

In all honesty I didn't see any parodies in the first batch of entries, maybe the Alpha-Q song was a bit Kesha-y but otherwise...

I've got a rough sketch of my song done but I'm not at peace with it, I dunno. :-?

Like the Dixie Chicks wrote about the war in Iraq, which they were against. So you pick a subject - ie, war in Iraq, Aids in Africa, rape, abortion, divorce rates, something like that from the real world and have that as the topic of your song :)

I love how much promotion Khia gets on Ukmix
