When asked if Celine possesses the same marketability as the top acts worldwide, specifically U2, Meglen said, “Absolutely. Sure, because you have to take the international appeal into it, and I think this market is becoming more and more of an international market every day. She has worldwide fame.”

Celines popular, but she is not at the level of doing an $800 million dollar grossing tour like U2 is currently doing. When was the last time she soldout a stadium in the United States? Also, playing shows in a little 4,000 seat theater in LAS VEGAS does not count.04wayne wrote:When asked if Celine possesses the same marketability as the top acts worldwide, specifically U2, Meglen said, “Absolutely. I'm merely copying what Meglen said:Mulvanaghty wrote:Celines popular, but she is not at the level of doing an $800 million dollar grossing tour like U2 is currently doing. As he says, she doesn't just gross ticket sales, she makes money for Vegas. A couple of hundred dollars on top of the $100-$250 they pay for a ticket.Celine is rare, both in her incredible gift of voice and her uncanny ability to sell seats.
“She’s on a different level, she really is,” AEG Live/Concerts West Co-CEO and President John Meglen said. “We see it in the music business in touring. You can see a good, solid arena tour. You see somebody who is out there doing really solid business. And then you see a U2 come along.”
Welcome to the different level.
“You just see the impact. You see it in the gross dollars and, you know, very few are at that level,” Meglen said, as he, too was among those standing at the front of the hotel, checking his timepiece while waiting for the superstar to show up. “You can count them on one hand, artists who have that kind of strength.”
Speaking to Celine’s ability to almost single-handedly fund the cost of the Colosseum, he said, “We own more arenas worldwide than anyone,” he said, referring to AEG Live/Concerts West. “You can’t say that about anywhere else. Not the Staples Center, or the O2 in London, or Sprint Center in Kansas City, nowhere else is that true.”
I agree that she's not at the level of an $800m tour - there is no act in the world that is (U2 aren't assured to reach $800m themselves yet, its all hearsay at the moment), with the possible exception of U2. However, she is quite easily inside of the 5 biggest draws in the world, from a dollar standpointMulvanaghty wrote:Celines popular, but she is not at the level of doing an $800 million dollar grossing tour like U2 is currently doing. Thats without the aussie new zealand dates aswell , i reckon come the end of the south american tour u2 would have broke past the stones record. Then theres the usa leg and the rumoured Asia and Europe legsMulvanaghty wrote:Here are the top grossing tours of all time, tours that have passed the $300 million dollar mark in gross:

With regard to the NY shows, we actually have a real breakdown. The first show (which was originally the second) had 77,338 and the second show had 84,472. The 84k was the all time record for Giants Stadium. Since the stadium is no longer active, that record will stand for eternity.Alex2006 wrote:U2 360 Degrees Tour - Highest boxscores (attendance> 80.000):

Average attendance on the stadium leg of ZOO TV in North America was about 43,000, and this was considered to be an enormous tour.ShaneO wrote:With regard to the NY shows, we actually have a real breakdown. Looking at these numbers, I am really blown away. Just look at the locations of this concerts: East coast USA, West coast USA, South Africa, France, Spain, England, Ireland, Germany, Greece. I am sure Mexico and Canada (Montreal & Moncton) will also join this list. Its pretty cool.
On a side note, what are peoples general opinion of what a massive show is? I mean, I consider anything over 50k to be huge and 70k to be amazing. Just curious what others think (not just for U2 but any act).
The first wembley show in London had a record setting 88,000 crowd i remember reading it because its the biggest crowd ever at wembley for a concert.Alex2006 wrote:U2 360 Degrees Tour - Highest boxscores (attendance> 80.000):

I agree with that, with the 360 configuration they could have fitted almost 100k each night.. or at least that is what most people were predicting...Crazy to see Perth with a bigger attendance and Brisbane and Auckland with similar ones!!john2000 wrote:both sydney and melbourne are disapointing compared to perth.
