LOTUS FLOWER : 500.000 in last october.
Should be certified platinum because it's a triple album.

What about Ace of Base.
Shouldn't The Sign be Diamond (have been Platinum *9 for ages) and The Bridge platinum*2?

Well, not if those albums have sold nothing since their last certification and the certifcations were up to the real sales level.

Def Leppard "Vault" - 5,020,000 (4xP)
Bon Jovi "Crossroad" - 4,951,000 (4xP)

http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watc ... -hits.html

"Crossroad" should actually be 6xP (club sales). It scanned about 1.8M since feb 2003 - last certified 1998!!!
And "Slippery When Wet" need an update too. That one scanned about 1.2M since feb 2003 - last certified in 1995!!!

Dane Crossroad should actually be 7x platinum if regular sales and club sales were combined it would be at 6,751,000 and #64 on the RIAA All Time List

That's pretty close to 7xP. How do you get that number?

@Dane I added the last number we had with whats been scaned since 03 to get that number and think about it certs are based on shipment not sales so sales of 6.751.000 mean shipments over 7,000,000 so 7x platinum eligible

Soundscan September 2011: 4,951,000

Week Ending 02/09/03:

29 BON JOVI|CROSS ROAD 5,487 4,879 3,176,293

W/E 01/26/03 = 3,165,927

Jan 2003 - Sep 2011 = 1,785,073

Last cert was 4 x Platinum in October 1998.

Total sales = 5,785,000 + (Regular sales 10/1998-01/2003 & since 09/2011) + (Club sales since 10/1998).

6 x platinum is obvious.
7 x p? Maybe if it sold around 250k a year in 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002. Or if 4xP was a late cert in 1998 - but we don't know that.

I know that.

But +800,000 scans doesn't mean + 1 platinum disc.
In my book an album needs to scan 1,000,000 since last cert to get re-certified.

Example:

If an album is initially certified 2 x platinum after 1.8M scans, that's because it shipped 2M.
The "missing" 200K could have been sold at music clubs or could be stocked at retailers/in shops.

Today Music Clubs aren't really a factor any more. So the 200K are likely stocked or returned.

Let's say that album scans another 800K = 2.6M total scans. That's probably not enough for 3 x platinum, because retailers/shops would likely have the same amount (or less) stocked. So that album needs 2.8M scans for 3xp and 3.8M for 4xp, 4.8M for 5xp etc.

The 90's was different of course, as Club Sales was a big factor.

yeah I know that but it's not always true an example would be Carrie Underwood's debut Some Hearts Released November 15th 2005 certified 7x platinum when it had sold 6.5 million copies in February 2008 and will probably be eligible for 8x platinum when her new album goes platinum later this summer

I would think Goodbye Yellow Brick Road would be closing in on 9x Platinum by now. 14 years with a certification ... it's a considerably long time.

Are there any in the "Millenium" collection that actually have been certified?

Some Hearts certs does look a bit strange. Or rather, the 6th platinum disc looks strange. It came just 681,300 scans after the 5th disc! Could the 'missing' 300K come from Music Club sales since release?
