My dialup only costs 10 bucks a month, so I stick with it only cos it's cheap.

Broadband in NZ is ridiculously expensive and it's capped, not unlimited. So it's not worth the price right now :-?

I'm very glad it still does, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get online, as there's no way in my current financial situation I'd be able to afford broadband

The day my IP discontinues dialup (which will be soon I expect) is the day I cough up for fast internet :-?

Shorty, you should totally invest in broadband because its a lot more affordable now. Are you receiving any financial support like the dole or something since you're unemployed? It'd definitely be worth it if you looked into getting it (I was a former dial-up user but then I got broadband and I couldn't imagine my life without it!)!

We're getting OT, so I might rename the thread to 'Current Internet Options and Plans in New Zealand', or maybe just 'Shorty's Struggle' for short :lol:

You can get basic broadband here for about $20 a month I think, obviously not high download allowance, but enough to cover like UKMix and Facey (the essentials).

Dial-up internet, you know what people used back in the 90s and early 00s? Where instead of constantly being connected to the internet (broadband), you had to connect like a telephone call through the telephone line every time you wanted to go online, it took forever and the speeds were snail's pace.

I remember that we used to be extra careful with our 600 (or something like that) minutes from AOL. Until we switched to Verizon.
And, it was uber frustrating when we were on and my mom called - the internet would crash.

My internet's been acting funky lately though, ever since I moved into my new place, my internet has been even slower then usual. I need to get my Dad (he fixes phones and phone lines for a living) to check the strength of the line for me :-?

This whole Shorty-Dial-Up topic is so funny. I remember having a modem and it was horrible. Shorty, maybe you can get Broadband together with your neighbor, wouldn't that be cheap, and you can phone over the broadband. Please, get out of the past.
