The R&B crooner, now the face of Rocawear’s ‘Evolution’ fragrance, says: “I’m working on a new album entitled ‘Chapter 5?. Music will always be my first love. I’m going to South Africa and I’m elated about it. I’m taking my mother and family. That trip will be very instrumental in what this next album will be”.

I've loved all his four albums so i'm looking forward to this!
Hoping he gets to cover other bases other than sex, on the new record. The past two albums have been really heavy on that front.
So i guess the PPP era is officially over?
Photoshoot fresh... I'm about to call the paparazzi on myself.

A Trey Songz album without sex as a subject? I will believe it when I see it  . I like that "Africa" influence sound-wise though.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I can't wait!!!!!!

Been jamming to "Bottoms Up", "Last Time" and "Can't Help But Wait" today, and just when I was wondering if he's going to make another album and this news just popped out. 8-)

I'm excited for this but I hope he brings something a little different. With Chris Brown coming back, he isn't as big as he was during the "Ready" era. The sex songs are getting old.

How isn't he that "big"??? Wasn't his latest album a #1 in the USA just as Chris'??? I think Trey is on its way to become the "it" name in the RnB field! :P
His music is more urban and RnB than Usher or Chris IMO. I'm interested on this, he's so sexy :) !!

Yeah all the singles from Passion, Pain & Pleasure are just as huge as Chris's or Usher's. "Bottoms Up" was a top 10 crossover hit and "Can't Be Friends" spent like 14 weeks atop Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (?). He had more longevity during the Ready era though, I guess.

I know alot of people say "Passion Pain & Pleasure" is basically "Ready" Part 2, but it has NOTHING on Ready!! I also hope he changes it up for this one, I have only really listened to the last two albums and I don't need to hear about sex anymore!

@jpguy: It was #2.

Trey Songz to Showcase Storytelling, Rapping on ‘Chapter 5?

Trey Songz is turning a new page with his fifth album Chapter 5. While the R&B crooner is moving on, he hasn’t forgotten his past.

Troy Taylor, who discovered Trey when he was 15 and executive produced all of his albums, spoke to Rap-Up.com about the project’s direction. “I think Trey is coming into his own now,” he said. “He was always taught to know what he wants and he was always taught to know how he wants to sound, and I think Chapter 5 represents the storytelling of how he feels and his emotions and just everyday life that people go through.”

Expect to see continuations of storylines from previous albums. “What we’re gonna do is elaborate on other songs. ‘Can’t Be Friends’ was a huge smash, but on Chapter 5 we’re gonna maybe go into a little bit more of the girl he was talking about. We once had a song called ‘Black Roses’ on Ready; we’re gonna tap on it to tell you a little bit more of the story. So Chapter 5 represents elaborating.”

Trey has been flooding the Internet with his rap remixes to songs such as “Gucci Gucci” and “Ni**as in Paris,” and he plans to showcase more of his rhyming skills on Chapter 5. “I took a poll on Twitter to see if people wanted to hear more of Trey rapping and they said it was cool,” shared Taylor. “He was a rapper first when he was 15. When he came to me the whole question was do you think I can be a singer, and when I heard him it was definitely.”

Chapter 5, the follow-up to last year’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure, is due in 2012. Trey also stars in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, in theaters October 5, 2012.

Trey Songz Finishing Up 'Chapter V' Album Before Winter Tour

Before he embarks on his Anticipation 2our headlining trek next month, Trey Songz hopes to put the finishing touches on "Chapter V," the full-length follow-up to 2010's "Passion, Pain & Pleasure."

"I'm finishing the album now, actually," the R&B author of hits like "Bottoms Up" and "Say Aah" tells Billboard.com. "I'm currently in Miami, and I have one more week until [tour] rehearsals, so that's when I switch to full 'tour mode'. The tour's been very prevalent in my mind, but the record and making sure the album's complete have been on my mind as well."

Songz started work on "Chapter V" last June and hunkered down in the studio over the past month and a half to focus on his fifth studio album. The singer does not have a time frame for the album's release, but believes that the finished disc will offer a change of pace.

"I'm definitely trying to leap forward with every album, and with this album, I think it's a leap forward and a leap into the past," says Songz, who also released a new EP, "Inevitable," last year. "I want to embody in this album -- this fifth album, which is very monumental for me -- what I am, where I came from and where I'm going. I… just think it's going to be very fluent, very diverse yet very cohesive album."

On his fifth album Chapter 5: “I think the new album will reflect very much where I’m going as a person and what I’ve been through. Music, for me, is very much an expression of how I felt at the time when that song was made. And it’s almost been a year and a half since I put my last album out [2010's Passion, Pain & Pleasure], so we’ll see how much I’ve grown and how much I’ve changed since that album’s dropped.”

Storytelling? Awesome. 8-)

Trey is really talented. I'm hoping he can whip up something that'll make R. Kelly look like Roy Orbison but I'm going to stay realistic.

But I'm not here for the sex ballads though...
I can feel this light that's inside of me, growing fast into a bolt of lightning. I know one spark will shock the world...

To me, Trey needs to go back and listen his debut album, "I Gotta Make It" again because that album was very underrated, his voice was real, and the production was slick; even the sexy tunes (like "Ooo", "Kinda Lovin'", "In The Middle") were keep to a minimum.

I don't know what happened, either he relies on Troy Taylor too much or he's too scared to experiment with new topics so he falls back to "sex".

So, I can take sexy tunes from Trey time to time, but for this album, he needs to become relevant with his songs (without being too cheesy and vulgar) otherwise, he'll end up irrelevant like Ray J (ugh! :x )

Mr Mo Kelly wrote:The Trey Songz Mo’Kelly Report Interview! (AUDIO)
January 26th, 2012

He has more than 3.6 million Twitter followers (and growing). Most of whom are female and absolutely love everything about Trey Songz and his music. But what was more impressive to Mo’Kelly was that in our extended conversation today, Trey was genuinely humble, although the world and circumstances surrounding him likely push him in the opposite direction towards absurd arrogance like many of his contemporaries.

He is a savvy businessman, bucking conventional wisdom in the marketing of his music, releasing mixtapes and an EP in between album offerings. Tools not designed for airplay and commercial appeal but merely a means of musically staying in touch with his fans and emotional proximity (if you will) with the ladies. It’s commonly done in hip hop, but rarely done effectively within R&B.

It has turned out to be a brilliant career move and as Trey ramps up to eventually release the forthcoming project, Chapter V, we talked at length about his musical motivations and more importantly his charitable work with his Angels with Heart Foundation.

Yes, his lyrics are often sensual and at times overtly sexual but never are they draped in misogyny. When so many other singers of his generation are making news for all the wrong reasons when it comes to women, there’s nothing wrong with propping up one who musically is all about putting them first.

Album Preview: Trey Songz "Chapter V"
Image

"Heart Attack"

It's V's first single, a quaking cut about the downside of being in a relationship and how struggling to maintain or fix a bad one can leave you worse than simply lovesick. "I never knew love could hurt this ****' bad," he sings on the track, which was written by Benjamin Levin, Rico Love, and Tremaine Neverson, produced by Benny Blanco, and co-produced by Rico Love.

Atlantic Records executive Mike Kyser, present, was particularly proud of the way his team launched the record on radio yesterday with it playing hourly on a load of Clear Channel stations Monday. Trey mentioned how he's excited to perform the song live, hold the mic into crowd and let them sing the hook.

"Two Reasons"

"This one's a little ignorant," Trey said before playing this T.I.-featuring banger. "When I walk into the club, I got to hear my shit." The thumping cut is sure to accomplish just that as Trey clearly states his motivation for hitting nightclubs.

"I only came here for two reasons," he sings on the track. "The bitches and the drinks..." Tip joins the fun, Southern charm intact, saying that he and Trey have been wild boys "since we were minors."

"Dive In"

This freaky cut—which Trey wrote and produced with frequent collaborator Troy Taylor—is layered with smooth guitars riffs and lyrics about pleasuring a woman. The first two verses fittingly begin with the words "Splash" and "Drip." While throughout the song Trey croons about how he loves "swimming in your body," that he "ain't coming up for air," and "there ain't no running around this pool!" Yeah, this one’s nasty. And it closes with him audibly swimming. Perfect.

"Without a Woman"

Before starting this big ballad, Trey talked about how the R&B genre isn't what it used to be when legends like Luther Vandross could sell out major venues like Madison Square Garden without a crossover pop record. In short, when R&B or soul was pop. He didn't quite go on to claim that he's going to rescue the genre, but he did say that "if somebody doesn't keep it alive, it's gon' die. This is the essence of a soulful record."

"A man can't be a man without a woman," Trey sings, his passionate lyrics reinforced by a live horn section. "Nobody's doing that right now," Trey's manager Kevin Liles said after the song ended, citing that Trey was raised by his mother alone and always gives strong women all his love.

"Ladies Go Wild"

This song represents an adventurous turn for Trey, who usually doesn't venture into Euro-pop sounds. "It's a little different for me," he conceded of the track, which he put together with Troy Taylor and Teetimus Da Producer. It's probably the closest he'll ever get to Jersey Shore fist-pumping music. Situation and Snooki types will eat it up, though.

"Simply Amazing"

This mid-tempo cut shows Trey's growth and radio platform reach. V has songs for his core twenty-something R&B audience, as well as ones that surely will do damage on pop charts, and "Amazing," which likely should score big on adult contemporary stations.

Sharing his undying love for his lady through pitfalls and struggle, Trey pours his heart out. "There is nothing in this world that could keep me from you," he sings. It will fit nicely alongside the likes of Usher's "There Goes My Baby" and Charlie Wilson's "You Are." Sounds like R&B is alive and well—for now.

The album is released the same day as Linkin Park's new album in the US.
Both debut sales were seperated by just 1k and even the total shows a difference of just 3k...

I love Trey... used to hate him, and he slowly won me over with his voice and swag!

I hope for strong lyrics, real R&B and some diversity to make the album complete!

However, I am not here for that vibrato that makes me sea-sick and sounds like he was recording as the "Titanic" sank!
"Take A Bow"... Rihanna's ONLY ballad to go #1 on the Hot 100 (also topped the R&B Chart)... Great deed for her most epic ballad!!!

Actually I kinda like his vibrato. It's unique, and probably it's gonna be known as his signature.

Trey is actually a great singer, he just needs to learn how to use his voice properly, especially live - because based from what I've YouTube'd, he sounds awful live most of the times.

Trey’s new album Chapter 5 is due out mid-summer featuring some big names. “I got a record with Tip on there ['2 Reasons'],” said Trigga. “Shout out to [Lil] Wayne, Big Sean, J. Cole, Kelly Rowland as well. A lot of great features thus far and I’m still recording.”
