I think 1993's "The Hits/The B-Sides" is the best place for a newbie who wants a sampling of all of his Warner years (and his best years). Even though a lot is missing, it hits on pretty much all the big hits from 1978-1993 and the b-sides are a treat because some of his best tracks were saved for those, songs like "Erotic City" and "How Come U Don't Call Me" (which Alicia Keys remade) are hits in their own rights.

From there, Purple Rain is the safest place to start with the studio albums as it is his most commercial work and every song on it is a winner, then I'd move on to Sign O' The Times, which was a hit album as well but also showed some of his less commercial side to it, then I'd move on to Dirty Mind, 1999, Parade, Gold Experience and others.

Son Of A Gun (Diddy remix) - Hot! Love the beat & the deep vocals.

All For You - I already know this song, I totally forgot about it though but as soon as it started I knew all the lyrics

It's good!

Black Cat - My favourite so far! Love the guitar & the vocals are feirce.

If - I liked this one, it didn't hit me at first like the other ones but it was nice. I had to bring the lyrics up though to understand what she was saying during the verses... :lol:

Throb - I knew I'd love this one from the title :oops:

Hooooot!!! The sex noises & the beat & the light vocals <3 All I can say is... yes!

Someone to Call My Lover - This one was really sweet, I like the beat with the guitar & the flow of it all! Is this earlier Janet? She sounds way different from Discipline album

So Excited - Heard this before aswell, only because I had to youtube it to believe that Khia & Janet had a song together. :lol:

It's hot though!

What Have You Done For Me Lately - Wasn't feeling this one much... it was too long & sounded quite monotone :oops:

All Nite (Don't Stop) - Hoooot!!! Loved this one. She sounds so sexy on it & the beat is fire. My second fave so far!! :cool:

Feedback - Know this, love it.

I Want You - Liked this one, the whole feel of it sweet but still sexy with them vocals!

My Baby feat. Kanye - My third fave! This is such an amazing R&B track, I love her vocals in it & it's so chilled :cool:

I really liked all these songs, my favourites out of the new ones listed:

Tbh, I never knew Janet had such a sweet/serene/sexy voice because she the way she sounds in the Discipline album is not what she sounds like in most of these songs but I know some of them are earlier work & ofc her voice has matured but I just love how light her vocals are.

Regarding Janet, I think her albums need to be checked out as well. Control, Rhythm Nation and Velvet Rope were all exceptionally solid albums.

The best song Blur did in my opinion is Tender. It is an EPIC song, always done best in a live setting. One of the best occasions was here @ Hyde Park - epic 9 minutes!

I want to discover more music from Ella Fitzgerald. Random, but her voice is amazing. Just got her whole songbook series, just don't know where to start!

I also want to check out Kelly Rowlands solo stuff: bar 1 or 2 songs, her whole solo career completely passed me by.

0304 is her only real "pop" album. Her earlier works were more coffeehouse style acoustic singer-songwriter music, and her more recent work has been country-influenced.

Regarding Blur, I thoroughly recommend "Blur: Best Of". It basically covers all their big hits - across a wide range of styles... and then once you decide which style you like most of them, you could check out the album those songs come from.

It was released in 1999, but frankly, Blur group material since then has been crap.

Radiohead - I guess it depends just how alternative you're wanting to go. Probably for starters I'd say things like "The Bends" and "OK Computer"... only go onto things like "Kid A" once you've really got into them.

ok thanks, i'll follow your instructions, so far the only songs i have on my ipod is kiss :oops:

, but i heard purple rain yesterday at 80's concert in las vegas, and it's awesome too. i'm sure there's a lot of amazing songs waiting for me. my fav artist is mj, it took me time discovering all music (from j5 till rite now). now that i know all his music, i want to go to prince and then madonna. these are the artist i want to know everything about their music. so thanks again

She sure has a lot of albums so i've not heard all of her albums either. I agree for Rid Of Me. Fantastic track! Also, my favorite is This Mess We're In(probably one of my faves of all time).
