I read yours posts on 'Biophilia' topic and I agree: "Night Of Hunters" seems much more personal than Bjork's, which is a good point.

I've heard the album previews and they sound great at first, so I think Tori's stylistic fits very well into Classical ways.

You're right. I still have to wait more 15-20 days.

Do you own the 'Deluxe Edition'? I'm curious about the DVD ("Making Of" and 'Nautical Twilight' music video), because I thought she'd make some visualettes again.

Kevin, I've only purchased the download album so far, which came with a digital booklet. But I'm getting the deluxe edition soon + a vinyl if there's one released, which I'm sure there will be.

I think you're going to love this kompis! Looking forward to read your thoughts on it!

Star Whisperer is just... :o

And just to make sure I've said it enough times, it is not an easy album, it needs several plays. Just read this again:

"It contains the power and dynamics and splendor of her very best material, but because it is a work of classical crossover, any expectation of pop hooks or singalong choruses will be met with disappointment; consequently, its sophistication, elegance, and poetry will reward anyone who takes the proper time to absorb it."
I've just discovered my love for the liquid destructivness of Fearless. Loving it. All the tracks become better for each listen, some are more instant than others (obviously). Gosh. Stanning again.

As for Night of Hunters being more personal, I have to agree, but then again Tori has almost always been writing about her journeys and experiences as a woman, while Bjork focuses on a very grand scheme, creation, the universe etc.

I've been listening to this more and more, and I really love the sound! It's just so painfully beautiful and delicate, and Natashya's vocals slays me everytime. Can't get over Job's Coffin, and the way mommy taught her daughter to sing with the same drawl "sister it's time to bring it on line". It's just so touching and beautiful.

True! Natasha blends so well with the classic theme, and Job's Coffin is lovely (as is each track), mainly because it's so accesible and frisky. Cactus Practice might be the most hookiest song on the album, I cannot get over the line "It's time to induct you into, the drink of the cactus practice - Cactus... Practice" Love it! I have just read one bad review on the involvement of Tash... it went something like "Tori sounds like her lifeless, old piano teacher".

The lyrics to this album are different from her past material in some ways, I can't put words on it yet, but I'll try and figure it out.

In my opinion Tori can be personal in her songwriting and vocal delivery, in a way that makes you connect with that same grand scheme or creation. The dimension that is waiting for us backstage, a shadow as we need to step into after we endured everyday-situations, when we finally find time to get out from all the roles of interaction, and when we are allowed to reflect "Am I always adopting roles to secure myself? When am I my own?", in solitude. Something.......

What do you think of Star Whisperer and Your Ghost?

I've just listened to this album and WOW, I'm speachless and totally blown away. I can't remeber the last time I felt like this after listening to some album. It's so raw and emotional and beutiful... It's perfect! I really can't find words to describe a beauty of this album :o

Can't you try? :P Are you familiar with any other albums from Tori? I fully agree with you, it sounds completed, in other words: flawless. Raw in its beauty.

Mattsky. I think those 3 albums have sounded close to perfect, a few fillers on every record, but since the amount of tracks have been so high, the good songs mean much more. The Posse and Abnormally albums are better than Little Earthquakes and To Venus And Back, maybe even Under The Pink - if only 2-4 songs could've been excluded (from ADP & ATTS).

Night Of Hunters on the other hand, might just belong to her top 3 of albums.. although it is so hard to say this early.

Glad you did! If you ever decide to give any of her other albums a chance, do share your thoughts with the other toriphiles.

Carry.. "You will not ever be forgotten by me"

It is impossible for me to stop listening. Her piano and production skill is really overpowering me this time around.. "Help me see with the dawn, that those that have left.. Are not gone"

The poetic lyrics, the vocals are a shock-experience, there's that raw beauty again. I just read the concept for the album (again), through wikipedia (yeah, I know). I'm even more impressed and affected now. The inspiration to Battle Of Trees is splendid.

Wikipedia Link

CONCEPT

"According to Amos, the concept centers on a woman who is left alone on the eve of her relationship's demise in an old Georgian house near the River Bandon, located on the outskirts of Kinsale, County Cork in Ireland. As dusk turns to night, the woman is confronted by Annabelle, a shapeshifting "childlike creature" who "emerges from nature", played by Amos' daughter. The mythical creature, representing "duality", as well as the ancient forces of "the hunter" and "the hunted", coaxes the woman to follow her into the night, transporting them both approximately three-thousand years into the past to witness a previous incarnation of the woman's relationship. It was a time of great chaos and violence in ancient Ireland as a war of beliefs raged on, and the woman and her lover fought side-by-side as bards, using the ancient tree alphabet as their only weapon. Once the war was lost, however, the woman and her lover crossed the Atlantic on his sailboat, abandoning her world, the New World, in favor of his world, the Old World. It was during this time that forces, both within and outside of their control, drew the couple apart. After their sojourn into the past, Annabelle inducts the woman in an ancient peyote ritual which is meant to further expand her consciousness through both hallucinogenic and meditative means. During the ritual, Annabelle helps the woman realize how she abandoned her own fire and inner-strength when she left her world in favor of her lover's. The woman also sees how both she and her former lover interchangeably misused the ancient forces of "the hunter" and "the hunted" against one another throughout the course of their union. This self-destructive dynamic, in turn, also plagued the present-day incarnation of their relationship. Once the ritual and woman's self-examination are complete, Annabelle reminds her of the perils and benefits found in using and misusing the ancient energies of "the hunter" and "the hunted". The creature also advises the woman that there are "forces" at work that must be dealt with and that she must leave her so that she alone may face the Fire Muse, played by Amos' niece. In meeting the mythical goddess, the woman is allowed to recapture the fire and inner-strength she had abandoned, both in her past and present incarnations, and is taught about the "light" and "dark" forces of the world at large. The Fire Muse reminds the woman that more than just her own mortal pains and desires are of concern and, together, as the fiery goddess calls upon the woman to see the world from a higher perspective, they weave a spell to protect the light of the world from the forces of darkness. The woman ends her journey at dawn, renewed and grateful for her place in the world and for all of the people that have inhabited her life, including her former lover."
Gosh! Read this, the album really follows this storyline with a haunting effect.

Hey!! :D  I feel appreciated (the stanning is leading somewhere) :P But honestly..

Give it a listen, play it from start to the end. I was thinking of telling you about this just as I wrote the post above yours. Here's a link to the NPR website where you can listen to the full album (or if you prefer a download version):

Fingers crossed that you'll love it! :D Are you familiar with Tori's music from before? Be prepared for a heavy classical sounding album.

Well, start with this album, I'm getting excited for your sake (in some weird way) It's just that this album has really hit me, although it took 4-5 plays to embrace all of the tracks - and that's still with me being a fanatic Tori lover. I guess this is a completely different approach from her.

I love electronic production, beats and all of that. But when listening to an album like this, you really listen to music in a different way, it sounds more... "human"? Or "real"? I can't put my fingers on it now, but there's this sound of something historical, human beings, nature, pure/raw emotions - which for me are experienced different with electronic music.

Yoodddeell!!! Enjoy it pal!

One of the reason why I like this album is because of clarinet and oboe that could be heard frequently. They make really unique and magic sound. I play these instruments and I really like to hear them in someone's songs. It doesn't happen often, though.

Do you know how to play Oboe? :o RESPECT!
You never hear that instrument in popular music, unfortunately, it's fascinating how it can make you feel floating, weightless and somehow "loved". It has this kind, embracing sound.

Clarinet has never been my cup of tea, my ex played that instrument and I could never appreciate it except from a couple of tunes. Maybe she wasn't that skilled at it, but up until now I've never felt inspired from hearing it.

The clarinet on this album is oustanding! Andreas Ottensamer does a great job on Seven Sisters along with Tori's balanced piano plonking.

Do you have any favourite track NoAngel?

After few listenings I would pick Shattering Sea, Battle of Trees, Cactus Practice, Nautical Twilight, Night of Hunters, Seven Sisters and Carry as standouts for now.

Anyway, although I play both of those instruments, clarinet has always been my favorite. But, sometimes I like oboe more. It depends of type of music.

I just listened to the album for the very first time. In fact, it was the first Tori Amos album I ever listened to. And I gotta say - I'm speechless!! I have never listened to anything more beautiful than this record!! There's not a single "weak" song on it, they're all amazing.

I had to cry while listening to "Carry", the song's so beautiful. My best friend died six months ago and the song really minds me of this.
