^That live song is a repetitive mess and she looks like Kesha with that blonde hair and bare leg business.

I agree! Plus the lyrics are bland, B-Side material only. Please.

That Seventeen video was uploaded in 2009 and is still there! Was it kept private??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANhZipSk ... re=related

It was track 2 on The Crown Jewels EP and must have been considered for either the lead track or an additional video but for some reason wasn't promoted. Seems she wasn't happy with it.

The song had previously been on her debut EP Mermaid vs Sailor which was hand-made and self-released on CDr in 2007 and sold through her MySpace page (she estimates only 70 copies were made).
It is now on Ebay where two private bidders are intent on getting it - i was outbid at 30 quid.

Image

Songs from it include early versions of Seventeen, Simplify and Hermit The Frog plus three songs otherwise unreleased:

Horror Pop
A bit silly but cute!
Daddy Was A Sailor
Some interesting lyrics and vocal tuning!
Plastic Rainbow
Clunky metaphor overload and drunk Tori Amos vocal!

 Perhaps i'm better off leaving The Obsessed to the CD!

Scab & Plaster leaked! It's very much Family Jewel's Marina but with a more electronic production.

Scab And Plaster

I don't think this will end up on the album, if it does, it must be heavily mastered. Not a bad track, B-Side material. Gosh, I love her vocals!! Use them to the fullest Marina!!!

Scab & Plaster sounds a bit like Fear & Loathing in the beginning, it's like the same chords or something. I think it's a brilliant song though.

Listen to this interview

I loved this interview, partly because I'm a Swede, but she has a lovely personality. She mentions Kate Bush (again), and compares their voices. I somehow felt sorry for her or just thought she was cute, when the interviewer refers to I Am Not A Robot as a "smash hit" - and she doesn't seem to get that people love her music.

I've noticed several times that some people here uses her name and begins to sing that track. It was indeed a hit here! :D

Remember this?

I really like her and her music, and do feel a little bad for her. She deserves a lot more.

IANAR is her biggest worldwide hit. I wish Oh No! did better. Its her most mainstream song.
My personal favorite is Mowgli's Road. 8-)

New interview with Digital Spy!

What have you been up to this morning?
"Nothing at all, I've just been lying in bed all day!"

We're jealous! So you're part of this year's Little Noise sessions for Mencap; are you looking forward to it?
"I'm sure everyone says they're excited, but I actually am! It's my first show in a year in London and it's the first thing I'll be doing before the second album comes out. The whole set is going to be pretty stripped back. We've hired a wonderful string quartet."

Were you pleased with the response to your last single 'Radioactive'?
"Wow, did that really come out over a month ago already? It was pretty smart of me - releasing a summer song in autumn."

Well, luckily the weather held up, making it the perfect Indian summer song...
"(laughs) Exactly! That's what I was thinking, too. I was really pleased with the response. It was always going to be tricky leaping into a different genre that's popular at the moment. I wanted to make an extreme jump because once you succeed at that, you can do anything you like after."

The song was produced by Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry). Did you fear a backlash from some fans?
"Yes and no. Yes - I would have understood if there had been a backlash, especially as I've always spoken out against generic pop music. That said, I think it's hard to criticise a world you don't have a part in. It's safe to say I've learnt a lot of late! I've been pleasantly surprised by the reaction from fans."

Did Stargate allow you much control over the tracks you recorded with them?
"Definitely! They're very self-aware individuals and very supportive. People like them and Dr Luke get a lot of flack, but I found them very inspiring. They insisted that they didn't want me to change my singing or writing style. They worked with me rather than against me. It was great! They're not d**kheads - I've got nothing but love for them."

So you've worked with Dr Luke too; who else?
"I can't say! I worked with four producers on this album. Liam Howe, who worked on my last album, produced 'Fear and Loathing' and a few more. That's all I'm saying!"

You recently toured with Katy Perry - have you ever talked about collaborating?
"Supporting her tour was absolutely amazing. The actual show itself was incredible, too. We've never talked about doing something together but you never know. It would be an interesting one, though, especially with the visuals. We're both keen on colourful music videos!"

We can see the clashing wig colours now.
"Exactly, although mine cost $20 and hers was probably about $2,000!"

Your new album is called Electra Heart, which is based on a character you've invented. Can you explain?
"I'm doing this exhibition called 'The Archetypes', which is about illusion and identity. Electra Heart is basically something that represents all female archetypes - the homewrecker, teen idol, teen runaway, suburban housewife, etc. I can't say much more now as it's too early to reveal it all. It should be out in around three months."

We heard your next single was 'Fear and Loathing' - is that right?
"No! Total lies - that song is definitely on the album, though. The new single sounds completely different to 'Radioactive' - it's very pop with the same cold feeling as 'Fear and Loathing'. Sorry, I'm really bad at this. It will all reveal itself very, very soon!"

Thanks for posting!

Enjoyed reading that. She's not totally devestated then after the Radioactive flop. How good. Looking forward to hear a new single, especially if it's similar to Fear And Loathing.

I actually think she looks beautiful in that picture.

Is it "And" or "&"? I thought it was "And" until I purchased the Radioactive single which says "Marina & The Diamonds".. but then her youtube videos says "And".

Anyone?

All of The Family Jewels era covers showed &. Electra Heart era says and. LOL. It's a mess. If you go to her official page the title of the page is Marina & the Diamonds, but the banner says Marina and the Diamonds. I go by the &. It's how I have known her from the start.

Hmm.. thanks and OK! Then I'll go with "And" ;) I just made a little Marina mix to drink a bottle of wine and smoke a whole package of cigarettes to:

1. The Archetypes
2. Radioactive (Captain Cuts Remix)
3. Hollywood (Gonzales Remix)
4. Primadonna
5. Obsessions
6. I Am Not A Robot (Clock Opera Remix)
7. Shampain (Pictureplane's Deep Dolphin Remix)
8. Fear And Loathing
9. Oh No! (Active Child Remix)
10. The Family Jewels

Repeatedly! *Björk voice*

It is "and" on her Website and the pre-Family Jewels releases.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crown_Jewels_EP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid_Vs._Sailor_EP

It may have been an artwork/ design thing with the Family Jewels era.

Someone's been having a laugh with her Shampain chart history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shampain

It peaked at 141, in case you'd blotted it from memory.

Complete live gig from Switzerland TV(?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_8HBnOc ... re=related
There's more on that channel, too.

So Jealousy isn't even on the bonus EH tracks? Maybe a b-side?

 at the wikipedia page! I watched that live show some days ago. It was nice, but I wasn't very impressed with her live vocals. After this performance of Shampain (which I think is her best) I thought she had succeded in controlling her voice better. But hmm... she still semms slightly un-experienced or too fuzzy as a live artist.

I think I've played this CD about 100 times already! Time for another Marina era and I'm getting into her debut album after having taken a break with it for some time now. It's amazing how every single she's released have led to me discovering an official remix to each one of them. Equally amazing, and with the Oh No and Shampain remixes.. even better than the originals.
