50. Obsessed
A controversial start to my top 50 but I feel "Obsessed" deserves a place. The first of four tracks from Mimi's 12th album "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel". Since this dropped in 2009, I have played it so many times. It never fails to get me in the mood to go out! I love the heavy bass and the autotune works on this song. I think it a pure fire banger and one of my favourite Mariah songs of late. It was the saving grace of the "Memoirs" era and her last big hit. It is the best produced track on the album and the lyrics are some of the wittiest and catchy she has written post "The Emancipation of Mimi". My guilty pleasure!
49. Thanx 4 Nothin'
The best Jermaine Dupri produced track on "E=MC²". I feel everyone can relate to the lyrics of this song!! The first verse completely encapsulated how I felt about a person I thought I was close to. This for me was another one of the single worthy tracks from this album. She absolutely kills the vocal on this track. It is so simple but so heartfelt at the same time. One of the best tracks from an album that still disappoints me!
48. It's A Wrap
If Mariah had sang more songs from "Memoirs..." like she sang "It's A Wrap" then the album would have been so much better. Most definitely the cleanest and straightest vocal performance on the album. This song just sounds out of place on the album because it is so different and a refreshing break from all the The-Dream and Tricky finger snaps! She really evoked in me, the same atmosphere and presence in the lyrics that she created on the "Butterfly" track "Babydoll" and "It's A Wrap" was one of the few real throw back moments on the album.
47. Someday
I really don't understand why Mariah hates "Someday" so much! This was one of the first songs where I actually went wow to her whistle when I was discovering her and I started playing it over and over again! It was really cool to hear her do a similar type whistle on "Inseparable" all those years later! The video is just so much fun and epitomises the Mariah of the early years with the curls and denim and I also love the extended remixed versions. I love the guitar breakdown before the outro!! Just a great track that I would love her to embrace again.
46. Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue)
The picture she paints with the lyrics of this song are just so vivid and evocative and it is a brilliant lead track to the album. It is proof of what an amazing lyricist she can be when she wants to be. This gets the 46th position in my countdown because it is one of the most original and creative songs she has done since the 90's and it's a shame it never saw the light of day. It shows the potential that was there in the collaborations of Mariah and The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. It's just a shame the diversity and originality of this track weren't contained in too many more tracks from "Memoirs..."
45. Crybaby
The first of three tracks from "Rainbow". I just adore the sexy and smooth beat and the sensual vocals!! Velvety is one word which I would describe this song! I could play it over and over again! Snoop's rap just fits so perfectly and seamlessly into the song! Love the ad-libs at the end!
44. Lead The Way
The only track to make my top 50 from "Glitter". This song contains one of Mariah's biggest vocal performances and for that it makes my list! The melody is beautiful and it is also special because it is the last song from the Walter-Mariah collaborations to make one of Mimi's album! It shows off "The Voice" perfectly!!
43. Love Takes Time
The bridge of this song is just epic!! It was very commercial sounding and radio friendly and really solidified herself as an adult contemporary balladeer, as least for those first number of years. I adore the live performances of the song!! Another song I would love her to recognise again.
42. Just To Hold You Once Again
This song has always given me a sort of a haunting feeling!! One of the few standout's from "Music Box" for me! I just love the bridge of this song as well and the background vocals just add so much to the song. Her vocals are so powerful! The perfect tone and power. Classic Mariah!
41. I'll Be There
Just a flawless vocal by both Mariah and Trey and it is most definitely one of her best and most iconic covers. In fairness to her she can still do the song justice when she wants to nowadays.
