^^ Portugal is not confirmed yet probably because their national broadcaster (RTP) has been privatized. It's not clear whether the broadcasting rights will be transferred to the new privatized broadcaster or another one (probably SIC or TVI) will bid to pick it up.

Is there actually a possibility France might not compete? :o Ouch that's massive investment lost!

Also Italy's not on either list - have they withdrawn? They did so well!

A tad early to talk about who's gonna participate and who isn't!

Germany is gonna run a talent show to pick a winner and send it over to "Baku" just like they did with Lena.

The final participant list should be available by mid-December!

Added Italy & San Marino... forgot to include them!

Regarding the "unconfirmed" countries:

I can't see Russia, Serbia & Belarus missing out. Greece will be in as well, in spite of all the financial and privatisation problems around. Having achieved their best result in years, Ireland are safely in I'd assume. Can see no reason for Croatia and Macedonia missing out either.

France are always among the last countries to confirm so I wouldn't worry about them either. Italy's second place is probably enough to ensure they participate again in 2012 but you never know with RAI.

The ones I'd worry about at the moment are Armenia, Poland (I can see them skipping a contest if they continue with all these failures) and Portugal (what a pity that would be!).

Jedward FTW!!!!

Or if Dana wins the presidential election (Yeah! Right! ) we could send her. That would be a Eurovision first - a head of state representing their country at Eurovision.

Eurovision Song Contest sweeps coveted TV award

It has just been announced that the Eurovision Song Contest has won the coveted Deutscher Fernsehpreis (German TV Prize) in the category Best Entertainment at a ceremony in Cologne.

Also competing for the award was I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here and Let's Dance. I

To top it all off one of the hosts of Europe's favourite TV show, Stefan Raab, won an award in the category of Best Entertainer. So all in all it was a pretty successful night for the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany!

Incidentally, the 2010 the award for Best Entertainment actually went to the German national selection shows, Unser Star für Oslo, which produced Lena and her song Satellite.

Oikotimes states otherwise:

While local media claiming STV sources, said today that Slovak national broadcaster is not entering the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, eurocontest.cz holds a statement of STV spokesman Richard Šümeghy saying that the fate of the Eurovision song contest in Azerbaijan has not yet been decided.

we are still awaiting for a more proper and official answer by STV

Joe McElderry has apparently been dropping hints about a tilt at Eurovision 2012 for the UK!!!

Jedward are almost guaranteed to return for Ireland!!

From esctoday:

Moments ago, the Slovak public broadcaster RTVS released an official communiqué stating that their participation in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is yet to be decided.

The management of RTVS goes on saying that they are "interested in being present at major international competitions", an aim for which the Slovak broadcaster "must be prepared so that the financial resources bring the desired effect".

The Slovak public broadcaster also states that the final decision will be announced in due course.

This statement comes two days after the head of programmes at RTVS, Andrej Miklánek, suggested that Slovakia would miss the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. According to him, RTVS would be focusing on producing another type of entertainment shows
I hope they won't withdraw!

Yes! Send Jedward every year until they win it.

Then they can do a Lena, and return to defend their title!!!

Nikki or Niamh? (they're both Ms, not Mrs)

"Falling" would have come second-last had it gone to Duesseldorf!!!

^Sorry, my mistake! Nikki of course :P

I like "Falling", it sounds like "Running Scared" so i guess juries would have voted for it at least  but we will never know

I'm glad Jedward represented Ireland this year, but a 2nd time in Eurovision wouldn't be a good choice.

The first of probably numerous names that will be bandied about before the BBC reveals, at the last minute, what their act will be.

Or maybe they'll go with an (sort-of-)open casting call this year.

Who knows?

My choice in this year's Irish selection would be whoever sang 'Talking With Jennifer' - I quite liked that one!

Don Mescall! Nice tune indeed (but none of the other entries would have done better in Düsseldorf than the Grimes brothers)

UK X Factor rejects Same Difference have entered a song for Switzerland. Click below (the link is intended to be an embed, but because that's not allowed on this site, it will open at full-size in a new window)

Kate Ryan says 'maybe' for second Eurovision try

Even though she didn't qualify for the final in 2006 with her song Je T'Adore, she didn't think of the whole participation in a bad way. "I would always do it again, it was an extremely enriching experience," Ryan said to Estonian media.

She added that meeting various people at the contest taught her a lot about her performances. "It made me grow as an artist," she explains.

But now a question every fan wants to know - would she do it for the second time? She stays a bit mysterious and says: "I would think about it and maybe I would participate again... but just maybe!"

Kate Ryan represented Belgium at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Je T'Adore and finished 12th in the Semi-Final, thus not qualifying for the Final.
