Guys, have you heard that the asian motif from Princes of China may have been borrowed from Vietnamese pop singer Tran Thu Ha song Ra Ngo Tung Kinh?
Hilarious that Vietnamese press picked it from ARTL forum

I think Coldplay are a hugely overrated band who have somehow managed to become the purchase of choice for the pop crowd who want to pretend they like something deeper to listen to between their Britney and Gaga songs. I am surprised they duet Rihanna just because I thought they believed their own hype but probably they don't. Anyway, the song is as boring as I was expecting but a #1 is pretty much assured

I have yet to listen to the album (I'll buy a physical copy when it's out) so I can't really say whether or not this is a decent choice as I can't comapre it to anything. I'm sure, as it is Coldplay plus Rihanna, that it'll be a success.

Unfortunately agree with you but I'm not sure moderators decide to do that

This ain't rock. Title should say Coldplay feat. Rihanna and moved to Pop.

It's alright, bout time Rihanna had an actual melody again.

I too thought Coldplay were boring for years, then one day I allowed myself listen to ARUBTTH (like five years after it came out too) and fell in love with it. You have to be in the right mood for them.

I wouldn't say they are totally "pop" though, they certainly belong here more than One Republic or Goldfrapp does.

Why Goldfrapp? :o they belong here too imo, their last two albums have had pop sensibilities I guess, but before that they were pretty alternative.

well they belong more in pop or dance than straightforward "rock", since most electronic bands fall into either category moreso than rock. If I recall, Depeche Mode falls into "pop" here.

I agree.

I find it funny that people are crying that Coldplay have sold out and "gone pop". No, a rock band going POP is Nickelback or Daughtry who cater themselves to the Adult Contemporary market because housewives are more lucrative than actual rock fans. Coldplay have never exactly been a "hard rocking" band, but their music still maintains something of an edge to it, those "rock bands" I just named have no edge period to them.

I don't think there's any way that every song can be defined to a sole genre. To me, this is one of those cases - it has elements of a rock and a pop sound. Coldplay are considered a rock group so this is more likely to stay in this forum.

I've never invested any time in listening to Coldplay, I like a few of their old hits though. Maroon 5 are just ok but I like a few from them too, Nickleback and Daughtry on the other are rubbish from what I've heard!

I think if you get past the whole "how dare our beloved Coldplay work with some pop star" thing, you might enjoy the song. It took longer to grow on me than Paradise or Every Teardrop but it's yet another stellar Coldplay single. Had they replaced Rihanna with a lesser-known female vocalist, all the cries of "sellout" wouldn't even be considered.

Even though rihanna is in it you know that Coldplay made it its got intelligent song structure somehow that Rihanna could never make

Well, obviously they don't need Rihanna to have hits, as have proven Every Teardrop and Paradise.

I like this but like any other Coldplay song, it doesn't click with me.

I meant their last 3 albums actually but I still wouldn't consider them pop enough at all. :D

That's why I had to change it! Supernature is their most pop venture! It's because I forgot about Head First for a minute! :o  Now I must leave this thread...

Marina, The Saturdays and Leona are considered pop acts but that doesn't stop mods from moving them to dance (with not a moment's hesitation) .
I agree it has elements of both but it errs more towards pop. And Rihanna is all over it - there's more of her than the group! - so really it should be in pop.
