I guess because Nickelback have a serious chance of getting Platinum so they'll wait for it, while for Daughtry, it's sure that it'll go Gold but not that clear if it's able to sell 1 mio. copies...

Nickelback's label hasn't applied to the RIAA yet for their certification.

Daughtry's label applied and got their RIAA certification.

yeah and Mariah has had a platinum and 2 gold albums since then so technically she's overjumped Madonna for certified shipments by half a million madonna sits at 64.5 and Mariah's certified US shipments add up to 65 million

it's the old and never ending dilemma that MTV Unplugged EP was certified as an EP which means 3x platinum equals 1,5 million on shipment. The album, however has sold 2,7 million on soundscan and should therefore really be certified 6x platinum.

GH is another example which will never see the day of a proper certificate. The album sold 1,1 million by 2008 in the US and has most likely (as it is her best selling album every year in the US) reached as high as 1,2-1,4 million on soundscan and is therefore eligible for a 3x platinum certification too.

Between those two albums, there are over 2 million copies of soundscan sales un-certified (not talking about the potential shipment).

i don't get why the RIAA gets a total of 63,5 million when her actual certifications add up to 63 million??

The key is how you count MTV Unplugged:

Mariah Carey: 9xp (Cumulative = 9)
Emotions: 4xp (13)
MTV Unplugged: 3xp = 1.5 million(14.5)
Music Box: 10xp (24.5)
Merry Christmas: 5xp (29.5)
Daydream: 10xp (39.5)
Butterfly: 5xp (44.5)
#1s: 5xp (49.5)
Rainbow: 3xp (52.5)
Glitter: 1xp (53.5)
Greatest Hits: 1xp (54.5)
Charmbracelet: 1xp (55.5)
The Remixes: No cert
The Emancipation of Mimi: 6xp (61.5)
E=MC2: 1xp (62.5)
MOAIA: 0.5xp (63)
MCIIY: 0.5xp (63.5)

Uh it's because MTV Unplugged is certified as a shortform album which means back then 500,000 platinum so since it's shipped 3 million it should be 6 times platinum and some of her other albums are undercertified as well Rainbow should be 4x platinum greatest hits should be 3x platinum under double album rules and Remixes should be gold

Mariah only gets 500,000 credited for the platinum certification of the Greatest Hits album because it is a double album.

It's not a mistake. RIAA counts 1 platinum double album as 1 million sold....
For instance "Speakerboxx/the love below" (outkast)is a double album, 11 platinum... counts as 11 million for the act total, not just 5.5 million.

That's what I understand.

I think this rule is kinda stupid because actually, Speakerboxx was sold only 5.5 mio. times and not 11x.
Afaik, the USA is the only country to certify records by the number of discs, other countries see the albums as a whole product and so certify the products sold...

@argention78 it depends on how long the double album is and weather the label applied to have it counted as a double album or a single album. to be counted as a double album you have to be over 100 minutes long so Mariah's Greatest hits is eligible to be considered a double album but Sony probably didn't apply for it to be certified as a double album

Double disc albums are much more expensive thus earning more money n have a harder chance than a one disc. in my opinion i dnt think its stupid i think its quite fair tbh
