^ Thank you, Nothing Fails.

But anyways: I don't have a problem with Simon trying to give X-Factor new life. I don't even have a problem with all the talent shows.

I do have a problem with the people who don't deserve to win and, nevertheless, they end up winning. When they actually try putting out an album, they flop.
I can feel this light that's inside of me, growing fast into a bolt of lightning. I know one spark will shock the world...

I doubt if it's even 1/10th of that amount (I'm guessing the amount is for a year.)

Contrary to what's being said here, Mariah is perfect for this sort of a thing. Set her up with good lighting and people she's comfortable with and she's good to go. She'll bring the house down. HSN anyone?

Precisely. It'd equate to double what Oprah earns in a year, and Oprah is a brand name in itself with a network and more. She'd probably get more than J Lo's $20m. But not too much more.

This isn't the 90's anymore. And Simon Cowell isn't that stupid.

She has a good sense of humor, she's charismatic, I think she could do a great job judging, but its really beneath her. Paula and J. Lo were both long off the radar (J. Lo didn't have "On The Floor" yet when she was hired on Idol) and Steven Tyler hadn't done an album with Aerosmith in a very long time when they were hired. Mariah is still career-first.
Completely agree with this. :D

I never cared for Idol, but Simon proved what a clown he was when he said on 60 Minutes "I'm more of an artist than Bruce Springsteen because my artists have sold more albums in the past ten years than he has"

Mariah would be too busy re-applying make-up or fixing her hair to even pay attention to the performances.

Beyonce would be okay though.

Whitney Houston Approached for Seat on 'X Factor' Judges Panel (Exclusive)

UPDATED: Sources tell THR that the pop superstar has been approached for one of the spots vacated by departed judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Whitney Houston could be staging another career comeback with a coveted seat next to Simon Cowell on The X Factor’s judges panel, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The pop diva, who actually performed on the U.K. version of The X Factor in October 2009, is said to have been approached to join the Fox talent show, according to a source close to the show.
Mariah Carey has remained under consideration since the initial casting of the show, though Cowell has gone on record with assumptions that the singer is too busy with her family life to participate. Rumors of a $100 million Beyonce offer, however, are just that -- rumors. Cowell was quick to shoot down the bogus report in a recent interview.

As previously reported by THR, Cowell fired host Steve Jones as well as judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger in one fell swoop. Judge L.A. Reid has inked a deal to return for the series’ second season.
Houston was spotted at a pre-Grammy party on Thursday, hosted by singer Kelly Price at TRU Hollywood. The 48-year-old diva is also expected to appear at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party on Saturday, where she will rub elbows with Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Jennifer Hudson, Elvis Costello and Sparkle co-star Cee Lo Green.
The singer also returns to the big screen this August in TriStar Pictures’ musical drama Sparkle, co-starring American Idol season 6 winner Jordin Sparks.
Reps for Houston and Cowell did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Fox declined to comment.

It was true too, Simon confirmed he and the Fox producers were going to discuss the possibility of getting Whitney involved.

My Janet is being rumoured now:

Janet Jackson is rumoured to be in talks for a judging role on The X Factor USA.

The 45-year-old singer - whose biggest hits include 'Together Again' and 'That's the Way Love Goes' - has reportedly expressed interest in the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, discussions between Jackson and the show's producers are still in the early stages.

Jackson avoided confirming any X Factor rumours during an interview with Anderson Cooper earlier this week, insisting: "No, I'm not a judge on The X Factor."

When Cooper clarified: "You're not currently a judge on The X Factor," she replied: "No, I am not. But that's all I really think I should say."
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s141/the-x-factor-us/news/a366310/janet-jackson-in-talks-to-become-x-factor-usa-judge.html

Simon Cowell is believed to be holding meetings with potential judges this week, two weeks after former judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones were revealed to be leaving the show.

Cowell is believed to have shown interest in singers Mariah Carey and Katy Perry.

He recently said: "I think [Katy] would be fun because she is hard - in a good way - and she's feisty. She would be great. In terms of experience, success... brilliant."[/quote]

Cyndi would be great. She has a charming likable personality, she has respect as an artist, and plus unlike people like Mariah, Janet, Beyonce and others rumored, her career is on a much different level where seeing her doing a judging on a reality show wouldn't be sinking low whereas IMO Mariah, Beyonce and Janet are both way too big of stars to resort to something. Cyndi, like Paula, had a nice run as a pop star but wasn't someone who had a dozen years plus worth of hits, but unlike Paula, has respect for a decent singing voice where Paula was one of the thinnest voices to ever top the pop charts.

Don't know if this was already posted but 2 weeks ago Billboard had an article about
'X Factor' Judges: 10 Picks to Replace Paula & Nicole

With two empty seats to fill at the "X Factor" judges table, we thought we would help Simon Cowell by providing a few suggestions about who should fill those seats.

Rather than just pulling a list of random, unrealistic names out of the air (Madonna? Too expensive. Lady Gaga? Be serious.), we created a set of criteria that each potential judge would need to fulfill. The show will want to keep the same gender split of two men and two women, so no fellas (though Andre 3000 would definitely bring some swagger to the show). Gone are the days of hiring unknown entities, so no one-hit wonders, British unknowns or girl-group members with solo careers stuck in limbo. And the candidate should be a recognizable star, but have enough time on her hands to devote to a full TV season.

With all that said, we narrowed down the field to 10 artists we think would do well seated between Cowell and L.A. Reid on season two of Fox's "X Factor."

Donna Summer

Pro: A guest judge on Bravo's "Platinum Hit," the disco queen would bring credibility, presentation skills and a recognizable voice.

Con: She's got a great history behind her, but will a young audience just see her as out of date?

Natalie Maines

Pro: The Dixie Chicks lead singer has proven she can speak her mind and stick to her guns. Recent Grammy wins indicate industry support, and the pop path of the last album demonstrates the Chicks are more than just a country trio.

Con: We're not sure the South has forgiven her for dissing Pres. Bush in 2003.

Mary J. Blige

Pro: She's a bona fide superstar, still relevant as a recording artist, won raves as an "American Idol" guest judge, and her work in film and TV continues to impress.

Con: Does the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul have enough pop appeal to pull in big ratings?

Janet Jackson

Pro: Her celeb factor through the roof and, let's face it, she needs something to spark interest in her music career again. It's easy to picture her as a nurturing mentor who understands presentation better than nearly anyone.

Con: Is the soft-spoken Janet capable of giving harsh criticism to the contestants who deserve it?

Alicia Keys

Pro: With a new baby, the show would offer her a chance to stay put in one place for a while. And when the time is right, Keys could use TV to premiere new music to the American mainstream.

Con: Will Keys' laidback persona make for juicy TV moments? We can't see her engaging in quibbling with Simon, a la Paula.

Faith Hill

Pro: Remember her? A lot of America does and she would fill a void at the table - country-pop - while adding a light-hearted spirit to the judging.

Con: Next to her, Cowell would come off more mean than usual.

Oprah Winfrey

Pro: Oprah's much-missed talk show was a powerful force when it came to generating music sales. Plus, she needs a vehicle to get people to watch her new network, OWN, which has not generated the expected viewership.

Con: It's hard to imagine Oprah playing second fiddle to anyone, especially Simon.

Pink

Pro: The spunky songstress is still a head-turning hit-maker, understands pop music theatrics, and has a great look for the tube.

Con: Some people still see her as a poor man's Aguilera, which won't help the show's "Voice" comparisons.

Fergie

Pro: If the day comes when the Black Eyed Peas are not the biggest band in pop, a TV show would be a great vehicle to whet an audience's appetite for Fergie's second solo album.

Con: Will.i.am might get jealous of all her attention.

Mariah Carey

Pro: She's the obvious choice. Her name has been rumored more than any other possible judge and a TV show with Reid (the man who revived her career) and Cowell (apparently a friend) would make total sense.

Con: From a publicity and potential ratings standpoint? Uh, none!
