yesh that is great that she ended up so high hereFan wrote:It was released on Dutch iTunes yesterday and it made it to #9 in the iTunes charts! Which I think is rather impressive for someone who hasn't had a hit over here yet.
I read a very interesting interview with her the other day as well. I don't know the link anymore, but she posted it on her Twitter. Was such a good read.
The Sun has a big article about her today as well.
I get you... it's all 'good' but too much of it (at the moment) is underwhelming. She seems to have a knack of fantastic verses but doesn't ALWAYS deliver with the chorus. Many are very simple (Mountains, Next To Me) and some just fall a bit flat.MichielMC wrote:I got my copy
I like it. Really my cup of tea. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that too much songs miss a true climax, you know? Not every song should have a vocal blow out ending, but this is a little bit the other side of that balance. Dunno if somebody gets me?
Whoop!BRITs star Emeli Sande to knock Lana Del Rey off Number 1

By Lauren Kreisler
BRITs Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande is on course to receive another fine accolade this weekend to top off what has been an incredible breakthrough year for the Scottish singer/songwriter. Emeli is heading for a debut Official Number 1 album on Sunday with new release Our Version Of Events, her debut studio album which is set to topple Lana Del Rey from the albums throne.
The album features Number 2 single Heaven and the more recent single, Daddy. The singer also had a Number 1 hit single in 2011 with rapper Professor Green; Read All About It broke Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ three week run at the summit and stayed in the top spot for two weeks. Emeli is also flying high in the Official Singles Chart Update today with new single Next To Me taking up second place behind DJ Fresh FT Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now.
Australian-Belgian singer/songwriter Gotye and last week’s singles chart-topper, released his new album this week. Making Mirrors, which features Number 1 single Somebody That I Used To Know enters the Update today at Number 4.
Emeli Sande will pick up her Brits Critics’ Choice award next week as a chart-topping artist as her debut album Our Version Of Events heads to number one in the UK.
The newly-issued Virgin album is currently outselling its two nearest challengers combined having clocked up around 66,000 copies by the end of Tuesday.
That's exactly how I feel about it. I do like it but she just left all those ballads without a proper conclusion/climax!! I'm pretty underwhelmed! It's like she did all the ground work with the album and just failed to finish it off!king_oxymoron wrote:I get you... it's all 'good' but too much of it (at the moment) is underwhelming. My Kind of Love has ideas of brilliance but is a bit underwhelming, Where I Sleep is lovely but WAY too short, Mountains she needs to let go and scream out one of the choruses at the end as opposed to the Mariah whisper (she sounds scarily like Mariah in the first two), it's all a bit too acoustic and slow without hitting the 'massive ballad' buttons at times. I mean only the three singles and Lifetime are upbeat...
Also some of the ideas are quite similar, River is great but it's like a slowed down Next To Me in the verses... some of the lyrics are even shared I believe.
This said, I do like it, it has a lot of merit. It's just a bit Jessie J style 'I know she can do better'. Heaven was so experimental and the album doesn't follow, the singles are very misleading in fact.
The ones I really like bar the singles (Daddy has grown on me immensely) are Lifetime, River, Clown and Read All About It pt.3.
Speaking of, was that song already written when Pro Green came along? When did she announce the title of her album, as obviously it's in that song.
I am liking it, I'm just a bit frustrated by it too.
I agree with this in particular. I don't like how "Maybe" and "Suitcase" are together on the tracklisting because I find them very similar lyrically - both relating to breaking up and after hearing both in a row I started feeling a little melancholy.king_oxymoron wrote:Also some of the ideas are quite similar, River is great but it's like a slowed down Next To Me in the verses... some of the lyrics are even shared I believe.
Amen. Just gave it a try on Spotify and was very pleasantly surprised!steophonic wrote:This album is amazing.![]()
Bit heavy on the ballads but every one of them is brilliant so I can't really complain!
