It was released on Dutch iTunes yesterday and it made it to #9 in the iTunes charts! Which I think is rather impressive for someone who hasn't had a hit over here yet.

I read a very interesting interview with her the other day as well. I don't know the link anymore, but she posted it on her Twitter. Was such a good read.
The Sun has a big article about her today as well.

My copy arrived today, so worth £6.99! I've just finished listening to it and it's such a beautiful album. Her voice is very emotive and you do feel like she's telling a story with each song, rather than just phoning in a vocal. I do wish there were more "Heaven" type tracks on it though as the album is very ballad heavy. Although "Heaven" is SO epic, I'm kind of glad she hasn't tried to recreate again and again over 14 tracks but a couple of attempts in that style might have been nice! ;)

I'm so glad it's not an entire drum and bass album!

I'm feeling this album. There are a lot of ballads, but they are good ballads! She's definitely got talent in the writing department, great lyrics throughout. Overall it's a very solid listen.

Saw her play at Heaven last night (lots of jokes about her singling Heaven @ Heaven...)

She was absolutely incredible. Such an awesome live performer, really wanna see a proper gig of hers now.

Her set list:

1. Daddy
2. Next To Me
3. Rap features medley: Let Go / Diamond Rings / Never Be Your Woman / Read All About It
4. Breaking The Law
5. My Kind Of Love
6. Heaven

Daddy in particular was awesome, but my favourite was Breaking The Law.

In fact that's my issue - her live version of Breaking the Law was totally different, more up-tempo with percussion and full band, and it's so much better than the original. Why the hell didn't she put that version on the album instead of the boring acoustic one?!

I got my copy :)

I like it. Really my cup of tea. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that too much songs miss a true climax, you know? Not every song should have a vocal blow out ending, but this is a little bit the other side of that balance. Dunno if somebody gets me?

Apart of that. I'm in love with it! Hope she scores :)

This album is amazing. 8-)

Bit heavy on the ballads but every one of them is brilliant so I can't really complain!

I get you... it's all 'good' but too much of it (at the moment) is underwhelming. She seems to have a knack of fantastic verses but doesn't ALWAYS deliver with the chorus. Many are very simple (Mountains, Next To Me) and some just fall a bit flat.

My Kind of Love has ideas of brilliance but is a bit underwhelming, Where I Sleep is lovely but WAY too short, Mountains she needs to let go and scream out one of the choruses at the end as opposed to the Mariah whisper (she sounds scarily like Mariah in the first two), it's all a bit too acoustic and slow without hitting the 'massive ballad' buttons at times. I mean only the three singles and Lifetime are upbeat...
Also some of the ideas are quite similar, River is great but it's like a slowed down Next To Me in the verses... some of the lyrics are even shared I believe.

This said, I do like it, it has a lot of merit. It's just a bit Jessie J style 'I know she can do better'. Heaven was so experimental and the album doesn't follow, the singles are very misleading in fact.

The ones I really like bar the singles (Daddy has grown on me immensely) are Lifetime, River, Clown and Read All About It pt.3.

Speaking of, was that song already written when Pro Green came along? When did she announce the title of her album, as obviously it's in that song.

I am liking it, I'm just a bit frustrated by it too.

From The Official Charts Company:

BRITs star Emeli Sande to knock Lana Del Rey off Number 1
15/02/2012
By Lauren Kreisler

BRITs Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande is on course to receive another fine accolade this weekend to top off what has been an incredible breakthrough year for the Scottish singer/songwriter. Emeli is heading for a debut Official Number 1 album on Sunday with new release Our Version Of Events, her debut studio album which is set to topple Lana Del Rey from the albums throne.

The album features Number 2 single Heaven and the more recent single, Daddy. The singer also had a Number 1 hit single in 2011 with rapper Professor Green; Read All About It broke Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ three week run at the summit and stayed in the top spot for two weeks. Emeli is also flying high in the Official Singles Chart Update today with new single Next To Me taking up second place behind DJ Fresh FT Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now.

Australian-Belgian singer/songwriter Gotye and last week’s singles chart-topper, released his new album this week. Making Mirrors, which features Number 1 single Somebody That I Used To Know enters the Update today at Number 4.

Music Week

Emeli Sande will pick up her Brits Critics’ Choice award next week as a chart-topping artist as her debut album Our Version Of Events heads to number one in the UK.

The newly-issued Virgin album is currently outselling its two nearest challengers combined having clocked up around 66,000 copies by the end of Tuesday.
Some like to Clutch at Straws.

That's exactly how I feel about it. I do like it but she just left all those ballads without a proper conclusion/climax!! I'm pretty underwhelmed! It's like she did all the ground work with the album and just failed to finish it off!

I kind of like that there aren't any massive vocal gymnastics on the last choruses as I think that would make the album very X-factor / Leona Lewis-esque!

I do think maybe 'Suitcase' and 'River' could have used a big climax ending but songs like 'Clown' and 'Breaking The Law' are so beautiful just ending in the understated way they have.
I think the last chorus of 'Clown' is my favourite part of the album, you can feel the pain!

By no means am I asking for a key change and massive wail ala Leona's 'Run' or anything... I just think it's been designed in such an understated fashion too often.

Yeah, I can see where some of you guys are coming from... though for some reason I can kind of overlook that. I think it is lacking couple more songs with an edge... even just something else upbeat. But that said, I'm still really loving it.

I agree with this in particular. I don't like how "Maybe" and "Suitcase" are together on the tracklisting because I find them very similar lyrically - both relating to breaking up and after hearing both in a row I started feeling a little melancholy.

I kind of feel the same way... she has an amazing voice and I do like the tracks in general, but none of the tracks really move anywhere and because of that the album as a whole seems blurry and vague to me. I'd also have liked just a bit more variation...

Still, it's only her debut.

"My Kind Of Love" is so so good, I just wish the production was a bit more grand and Clown is absolutely gorgeous! Both should be singles!
