It's funny how y'all are laughing about Bee, Gaga and Adele being in the top 5... While I agree that Gaga and Adele don't deserve to be in there, but Beyonce is actually the most deserving of that position (out of all current divas). I don't think you guys are aware of the effect she has had on this society with her music. But yes, I do agree Whitney and Celine should be higher than Beyonce.

Lol really?

Adele above Whitney Houston? I love Beyonce, but I think she should be a little bit lower. Alicia & Britney Spears should be in the top 10!

Demi Lovato, really?

Celine is a mega legend, believe it or not in 1997-2000 every girl (at least in my country) wanted to be a little celine. her impact was immense.. as an artist and performer.

mariah, whitney, madonna and janet - as successful as the've been during that time, the all were massively overshadowed by Celine. Celine's fame didn't ONLY last for the titanic era.. ANDHC was massive also and her pre titanic sales were immense too.

Celine is WAY more influental and successful than Adele and Beyoncé combined. People should not forget that there was a music industry before 2000.

It was definitely the genre that ruled during a certtain part of the 90's...and Celine interpreted that genre amazingly well, better maybe even than Mariah......But it was for me more about the type of music she singed and not her person...In these regard still Mariah for me in that period had a bigger impact if you consider the whole package and not the music alone;

Btw I can already imagine Wayne standing ovation at your post: you got him forever now!

This list is obviously from the last 2 decades only. Otherwise, Aretha Franklin would be #1 or #2 and the Top 10 will be filled with Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and some other legends. There'll be no place for Lovato's, Moore's or that stuff

Other than Alicia Keys conspicuously missing from the Top 10, the list is pretty much spot-on, IMO.

Why is everyone whining about positions? Surely it's only for the last decade or so? Given that they did a list at the end of 90s.

Otherwise, why would people like Aretha have just plummeted?

If they're talking about their CURRENT influence, then I'd say it's not too far off.

Yay for TLC!!

Well just speaking for myself, growing up, from 97-00, I was obsessed with Janet, TLC, Destiny Child, Mariah, Mary J Blige, and Aaliyah. The pop artists that was loved in my neighborhood were Shania Twain, Britney Spears, and Spice Girls. I grew up in a urban community full of Cubans and a hand full of blacks. I'm assuming Celine was huge on the adult contemporary stations until the mega hit MHWGO came out. That's the main thing i remember from her between 97-00.

I didn't listen to pop radio back in the days but I do remember being a huge fan of Shania, Britney, and Spice Girls because they were freaking huge (maybe not sales wise like Celine). Not taking anything away from her, just saying every little girl didn't want to be her where I was from. But the story could be different for you.

I don't know why Celine fans let it get to them. Her fragrance sales alone overshadow careers in the top 10.

I dont think its fair to say that artists should be higher on the reasoning that they've sold loads more than most artists on the list as the list isnt about sales its regarding the greatest female music ARTISTS so its basically what makes an artist.
Plus, its also not fair because artists like Celine have been round longer and released much more music and so are obviously going to have sold more to artists only on their third or fourth albums. You have to take it in the context of what an artist has achieved compared to how long they've been in the game.
Now saying this I do believe that gaga and adele are a bit too high and whitney should definately be higher along with celine however I think you are all being too hasty saying Beyonce doesnt deserve her place as I think she does on the basis that in the space of four albums she's broken records in terms of awards (Grammy's) in terms of sales (Halo in Brazil) and her name as a performer is at the top, she's known as the whole package meaning she can sing dance etc on stage, a feat only a very few artists can do and she's made history with her performances in terms of Glastonbury. So I strongly think she deserves to be in the Top 5. :D

But, with some tweaks, the same can be said of Norah Jones, Alanis Morisette and Shania Twain as regards a place in the top 10. I agree Beyonce is bigger than all of them but come on! Third?

It should have been Madonna, Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Britney, Beyonce, Shania, etc. etc.

Believe it or not, it's almost always about the record sales. I bet they didn't even have to debate Madonna being #1. She's universally known as the Queen of Pop and that is only - and only - because of her record sales.

Some may say that Amy Winehouse had more artistic credibility than Whitney Houston but her death didn't have even half as much of an impact as Whitney's has had - and she was in the prime of her career/life.

The same can't be sad for the artists you mentioned though cus as good as they are Beyonce broke boundaries especially with performing, she was the first female in a ridiculous number of years to headline the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage and she's given award shows their highest ratings in years as the VMA's and Glastonbury got the highest ratings ever with Beyonce's performances.
Plus, I dont think it is about record sales, its rather the songs as madonna has sold a lot but some of her songs are timeless and her music has stood the test of time and has changed many things about the music industry which I think is also why she's #1, if it really was down to record sales then why was rihanna not higher.
 haha, I'm not even a fan of madonna and you've got me sticking up for her, lol

^^That fragrance earning is BS and has not any credible source.....seriously.....

About the list: everyone complains,lol....There will never be a list that makes everyone happy!!

Everybody stick to sales alone, in this regard there wouldn't be any need to create one as we all know who the biggest sellers are......

Its not BS at all - Coty released a statement three years ago claiming sales of over $850m.

In that time, she's released additional top-selling fragrances. $1billion is a cautious estimate.

Not that it matters to a poll about music.
