Noooo, if airplay point is separated the chart won't be exciting anymore. I think when we want a certain song to hit #1 with very tight airplay and sales competition within top 3 for example, it's very exciting to predict who will win!Cactuar wrote:Yay it's going to be like the UK charts!Next I hope they remove airplay and leave that in a separate chart so ridiculous spins of dated hits don't affect the charts.
Finally they got something right. I think its a great idea. If songs can chart on Sales only and minimal AirPlay .. Be that an ancient song or a brand new song it should be allowed. It would be stupid for a song that could sell 200k one week and have no influence on the Hot 100. The charts will probably be messy from time to time instead of predictable but much more interesting.04wayne wrote:In two minds - I think that its important for charts to remain current. However, I take great joy in knowing that some great songs will now gain new peaks on the hot 100, or just re-enter.
I wonder why Billboard changed the rule. Probably a lot to do with Whitney's death.
it deserves the #1 position but unfortunately, it will never reach that spot now, 18 years after its release.. but maybe top 25 should be possible.ForeverYoung wrote:Cool! "All I Want For Christmas Is You" can finally have the high peak it deserves!
It will reach much higher than that! AirPlay for the song reaches around 50 AI I think plus it sells relatively well. It could push for a top 10 in the Hot 100stevyy wrote:it deserves the #1 position but unfortunately, it will never reach that spot now, 18 years after its release.. but maybe top 25 should be possible.ForeverYoung wrote:Cool! Thankfully, it hasn't. You still have to sell enough for the top 50 (otherwise, you don't chart) and airplay is still included (yes!!!). Now, if they were to ever foolishly get rid of airplay (which they won't), then we'll be like the UK Top 40.Goldmoney wrote:The Billboard Hot 100 has officially become the UK Singles chart!

That's pretty much Digital Songs for you. Physical sales are so low that #1, without airplay or digisales will barely bubble under at that.Play wrote:Songs climbing to #1 or higher peaks later in their chart run is also because US is hell of a big country which means it takes time for a song to spread!
I'd really like to see a Billboard Hot 100 without Airplay points in it.

Well no, I didn't say I wanted to get physical.. just pure sales.WolfSpear wrote:That's pretty much Digital Songs for you.
