FliplovesMC wrote:Is it me or are the coincidences with Adele's stats a little crazy, I mean, her album 21 is about spend its 21st week at 1 this week, breaking the record of Whitney Houston's album, a week after Whitney's death. Speaking of which Whitney's GH just supplanted Adele's 19 from the Top Catalog Albums Chart and I'm assuming these 2 albums will be 1 and 2 for the rest of the year.

Another one I just read today, she is renting a home worth 7million pounds and 21 is about to cross 7million copies this week....ok that one not as crazy, it's still a kind of a coincindence
Yeah, and haven´t you noticed that, except from the Christmas period, Adele´s 19 only leaves the catalog chart #1 when a celebrity dies?

oldbloke, if you have time could you please tell me why Susan Boyle Someone To Watch Over Me isn't on the list through week 13 because I thought only her first 2 weeks counted toward last year's Billboard year end chart and therefore all the rest which I figured should be about 300,000 should count toward this year.

Thank you! :D

Aah - slight bug in the spreadsheet - about a dozen albums were without totals. I've corrected the chart now in the original post and SuBo is #25. Thanks for spotting.

 Hmmm...I'm getting the impression I'm not exactly your favourite poster at the moment. Here's hoping you can get an Adele prediction at least half right at some stage this year, lol.

PS Have you apologised to Timmy94 yet? You know, for accusing him of posting nonsense when he suggested sales of 500k for '21' whereas your attempt was IIRC 250-300k

WEEK 7

albums selling over 1,000,000 - this year - 1 / last year - 0
albums selling over 500,000 - this year - 1 / last year - 0
albums selling over 250,000 - this year - 1 / last year - 3
albums selling over 100,000 - this year - 28 / last year - 28
total albums sales - this year - 41.70m (+4.4%) / last year - 39.95m

The number of albums that have sold over 50,000 so far this year increases to 66, up 12 from last week. A further 2 albums would appear on the list if SoundScan included sales from christian outlets in their YTD numbers: David Crowder Band's "Give Us Rest" has total sales of 83,400 (34,200 throught christian outlets) and James Fortune & FIYA'S "Identity" total sales are 56,700 (17,200 through christian outlets).

The combined sales of the top 10 on this is list totals 3.42 million - over half of that total (1.74 million) belongs to Adele. She also appears on "Now 41" (SLY) and the "Grammy Nominees" (RITD), and if that isn't enough there's a Kidz cover of Someone Like You on "Kidz Bop 21".

Thanks, oldbloke!
So Adele reaches 1 million before anyone else reached 500k and it's clear that she will be at 2 milli before anyone else reaches 500k.. I think that such things never happened before!

She could even be at 2 million in 2 week's time! Quite extraordinary, really. She's outselling the #2 album by more than 6:1 :o Has any album ever dominated the US charts like this in its second year of release? 'Thriller' perhaps?

Is it to early to predict that Adele will have the #1 selling album in the United States and Worldwide with "21" for 2012?

If this is true, I think it will be the first time an artist has had the #1 album for two consecutive years with the same album since Michael Jacksons Thriller in 1983 and 1984.

In fact, because more precise records are not available and so it is difficult to determine, Michael Jackson may not of had the #1 album of 1984, it may have been Prince who shipped 9 million copies of his Purple Rain album by the end of 1984 just in the United States.

Do you know Taiwan? If not, check the map, it's in Southeastern Asia and beside mainland China, BUT YOU MUST KNOW, it doesn't belong to China!

Adele will cross the 2 million mark next week! That's insane! :o I hope Whitney's The Greatest Hits remains stable so it can at least finish up in the Top 10 on the year-end chart.

Much thanks for the list, oldbloke! 8-)

Yes, Adele is no doubtly going to have the best seller for 2 consecutive years. Since Billboard cuts off their tracking year by the end of November, the Christmas albums have no chance of taking the crown. Not like they posed a threat anyhow ...

And I agree, Purple Rain was the top selling album of 1984. MC Hammer also had the top seller of 1990 but the then "great method of determining year end charts" was the best way they knew how.

Note how it's the only one after 2005. That's quite sad.

But it also demonstrates that, sales-wise, this album is the 'Thriller' of its era. :o
