If I am talking to you, I want you to know that I'm talking to you - it keeps conversations cohesive, and transparent. There can be no mix ups.

I don't even always use the quote function, but I definitely don't want that right to be taken away.

I find nothing wrong with quoting either when people are having a conversation. As Wayne said, it avoids confusion.

Another gripe is unnecessary quoting. Wayne quoted me but was the next person after me in this thread. Some people just quoute when they don't need to.

That is NOT unnecessary. If I am talking to you, I will quote you - it is forum etiquette. I cannot believe you find this to be a gripe.
