wow she s that old :o  i thought she s like Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato, she should take a serious role in a movie instead of playing a high school girl, even Dakota Fanning is more mature when it comes to films.

I'm kind of regretting my votes. I've really gone off two artists I put in the top 10 :( And two artist that I voted quite low have really grown on me as I have bought more of their albums.

Oh well. Hopes the amazing Wayne does this again next year :D

In 2001, the music world mourned for the loss of one of R&B's most promising female artists. With potential that could've seen her all the way to the top of the music industry, her music is still celebrated today, with last year representing a decade since her passing.

25 voters voted for the late Aaliyah; musiclover2174 ranked her highest [#3].

Aaliyah Dana Haughton (January 16, 1979 - August 25, 2001) was an American R&B singer, dancer, fashion model and actress. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she attended Detroit School of Performing Arts. The 22 year old singer’s life was tragically cut short in a 2001 plane crash after filming her video for “Rock The Boat” in The Bahamas. Introduced to audiences by R&B singer R. Kelly, Aaliyah became famous in her own right during the mid-1990s with several hit records from the songwriting/production team of Missy Elliott and Timbaland, and their associate Steve “Static” Garrett. Notable for recording several hit records, Aaliyah has sold over 32 million records worldwide. She also modeled for Tommy Hilfiger and starred in two motion pictures (Romeo Must Die & Queen of The Damned) before her untimely death.

We Need A Resolution would probably enter my all-time top 100 favourite songs! That song is out of this world! Combining every damn song from every single R&B lady wouldn't come close to how epic that song is. I fall into trance only by hearing the intro. I'm waiting, patiently, for something similar to this song.

B. Why not give it a try. Plug in your headphones and feel it. I'm tired of arguing (Kevin, you too, if you have not heard it before)

Oh damn! I had to play it now, and as usual I'm stuck. ON REPEAT! You got issues... I got issues...but I know...

Oh and that crappy youtube version doesn't come close to how grand it sound in HQ. Don't get it twisted

Timless. Classic. I'm done. Am I supposed to change, are you supposed to change..

Aaliyah - lovely voice with a gorgeous tone, a very good dancer, sweet and humble personality and extremely beautiful. Aaliyah has made some classic R&B songs which still sound great today. Her early work with R. Kelly is great, and sometimes overlooked because of her work is Timbaland (which is just that bit better). 'Aaliyah' is her masterpiece album and it's a shame it took her death for it to become the success that it was (and for Aaliyah to receive public wide recognition as an artist).

HOWEVER, I do think that Aaliyah's extremely tragic death has resulted in her being slightly overrated. People say she was destined to be as big as Beyonce, but I disagree. Songs like 'Rock The Boat' and 'More Than a Woman' were definitely going to be huge hits, even if Aaliyah was alive, but I'm not sure just how big she would have been (and unfortunately, we'll never know). The fact that she ranks so much higher than her peers (Brandy and Monica) is also interesting, considering she has less material and Brandy is the most successful.

Favourite Aaliyah singles (not in order):
Journey To The Past
At Your Best (R. Kelly remix)
One in a Million
If Your Girl Only Knew
Try Again
Rock The Boat
More Than a Woman
I Care 4 U
Hot Like Fire (Timbaland remix)

[45 POINTS] - Aaliyah

She accomplished more in the short 22 years of her life, than most pop stars do in a lifetime. Aaliyah represents the first class of R&B artists that are making the transition into film and other forms of entertainment and she had a lot more to offer.

She is my #3. I discovered her after I heard a cover of her song "At Your Best" by a local artist in the Philippines. It was then I knew she had died in 2001. I was so sad at that time and I listened to her discography. She had potential to be huge if she was alive until now. I mean, she was singing, dancing, modelling and even acting at that time. She could have been big.
Mariah, Celine, Whitney The Vocal Trinity

Aaliyah, Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga

Ciara polarizes music lovers here; on the one hand, her big fans think of her as a Janet-Jackson esque artist, with the hottest dance moves and music in the industry. On the other hand, she's viewed by many as a talented dancer that has succeeded in this industry based on her good dancing and great looks alone - no musical talent involved. Whatever the opinion, Ciara manages to maintain a top 40 place this year and continues to amaze her fans with her relentless quest for superstardom once more!

With a huge 35 voters casting a vote for Ciara, and thus making her the first act to cross the 900 points threshold, Ciara scores an average of just less than 26! The highest she ranked in anybody's list was #4, in two voters lists.

Ciara Princess Harris (born October 25, 1985), who performs under the mononym Ciara, is a Grammy-Award winning, American singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, fashion model, music video director, actress and soon to be a fashion designer. Born in Austin, Texas, United States, Ciara made her debut in the summer of 2004 with the Billboard number-one single Goodies. The album Goodies was released in the United States on September 28, 2004, and in the UK on January 24, 2005. It produced three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, selling three million in U. S and over five million worldwide. Ciara has sold over seven million albums worldwide, and as of June 2010, she has sold more than 4.3 million albums and 6.9 million digital tracks in the United States alone. Ciara’s second album, The Evolution, was released in December 2006. It has spawned the Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit Get Up, and the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts top ten hits Promise, Like a Boy, and Can’t Leave ‘Em Alone. To date, the album, which went platinum only five weeks after its release, has sold more than three million copies worldwide. Ciara’s third studio album, Fantasy Ride, was released in the United States on May 5, 2009. The first official single, Never Ever, features rapper Young Jeezy and was released in January 2009. The second single, the worldwide hit Love Sex Magic featuring Justin Timberlake, was released in March 2009. Since its release, the single has already debuted high on numerous charts, and also has been noted as potentially one of the biggest hits of Ciara’s career.

Totally forgot I had voted for her :o

I miss the Ciara from beggining, to be honest. Except for "Promise", her recent material doesn't touch the debut album.

I completely agree. 'Goodies' was fantastic and one of my favourite albums but she never quite managed to top it (despite what her fans say). Nowadays, she is very hit and miss for me. 'Basic Instinct' was ok and 'Ride' is one of my favourites from her. As a dancer, she is INCREDIBLE and she is even better than Janet Jackson in some ways.

My #17.

Not a fan of either.

Aaliyah does have a really emotive voice, but I don't like the majority of her music. At Your Best (You Are Love) is absolutely gorgeous though. I LOVE it.

Ciara is talented and arguably the best female dancer at the momentnt, but she makes music that I can't get into no matter how much I listen to it. There's not one song of hers I can say I love.

Aaliyah
Beautiful angel. her last album is one of the best ever.

Ciara
Even her left-over leaks are better than 99.99% of what's in the charts right now. In fact they are often better than her album tracks.

Nicole Scherzy is v.good but she's annoying me with her flop ass. Get it together!

Fergie - I liked one song on her album. But overall she makes me yawn.

Nicole Scherzinger's had a few decent songs but I generally prefer her in the PCD.

Fergie I only REALLY like "Big Girls Don't Cry" and other non-generic sounding songs from her.

Aaliyah had a few good songs back in the day, I'm not a huge fan but I do like her. R.I.P. :(

Ciara I frankly never saw the fuss in.
