Not sure if it belongs in pop or this forum, move it if you wish mods. :)

Excited for this I've enjoyed much from them and really love Tom's vocals. :D

Anyone else excited/interested?

Shows they have gone completely off the radar with there being no topic yet? :-?

There is an album preview. It seems like they really put a lot of energy into getting it right this time. The preview suggests they're returning to their epic pop Under The Iron Sea sound which suits me just fine.

Happy others are anticipating! :D

Some of their songs are great, "Bedshaped" & "Spiralling" are among my faves from them, great songs!

I like how they try to change it up each time, "Perfect Symmetry" is an underrated album.

I prefer them to Coldplay too!! Always found Keane albums overall are stronger and more complete (though their last album was a major disappointment, though it was not a proper studio album ie more of them trying out something different but not in a good way IMO)

Hopes And Fears, Perfect Symmetry and Under The Iron Sea are all great albums

I'm excited for this! I'm not a big fan of their music but some songs are incredible! I still play Clear Skies like crazy :)

On first listen the album is "okay" but not really grabbing me. It feels like they're trying to make the same song over and over again. I too thought that the Night Train EP was perhaps *too* experimental, but this album feels like they just wrote a bunch of tracks that sounded similar to Hopes And Fears and are making a safe album to recapture lost chart momentum. On a song by song basis the album is pretty good, but as a whole it is a far lesser listen than Perfect Symmetry was IMO.

Yeah I've heard it once, I like it, although nothing has stood out to me just yet. I'm happy to see it at the top of the iTunes chart though.

I do agree with NothingFails - I think they have deliberately gone safe on this one, we'll see if it pays off!

Exactly my thoughts! I won't buy this. It's quite boring.

I actually really like the album on first listen. I liked the last two albums but this is a bit more like "Hopes & Fears" for me, which is a good thing. I understand the reviews saying it's not a progression but I don't mind that!

It's officially the UK's #1 album this week, very pleased! :D

From the Official Charts Company:

Keane land fifth Official Albums Chart Number 1
13/05/2012
By Lauren Kreisler

Keane today land their fifth consecutive Official Albums Chart Number 1, a record run beaten only by music legends The Beatles.

The East Sussex rockers, whose first three albums – 2004’s Hopes And Fears, 2006’s Under The Iron Sea and 2008’s Perfect Symmetry – and their 2010 EP, Night Train, have all debuted at the top of the Official Albums Chart. Now their fifth release Strangeland bags the top spot once again outselling its nearest competitor, Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events (2), by two copies to one.

The Beatles still hold the record for most consecutive Number 1s from a debut release onwards (seven albums), from 1963 album Please Please Me, through to Revolver in 1966. Robbie Williams also managed an impressive five consecutive Number 1 albums, though debut solo album Life Thru A Lens did not debut in the top spot; it climbed there the year after its release.

Following her performance on The Voice this past weekend, Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events climbs six places to Number 2, while Adele’s mega-selling 21 album slips one place to Number 4 and Lana Del Rey‘s Born To Die rests at 5.

Fresh from last week’s appearance on Later with Jools Holland, Richard Hawley, scores his highest ever solo chart position. The Sheffield-born singer, songwriter and producer, has this week released his seventh studio album, Standing At The Sky's Edge, debuting on the Official Albums Chart at Number 3.

^Someone should post that in Artist Chart Analysis.

Though given sales are low at mo that's not as impressive as it looks.

Good to see they still have a fanbase in the UK. The album is expected to open with 15-20k in the US, in comparison Under The Iron Sea and Perfect Symmetry were top 10 albums here and Hopes And Fears did go platinum.

From Music Week:

Albums

Two years to the week after securing their fourth number one album, Keane make it five in a row, with Strangeland racking up first week sales of 47,839. In 2004, the Sussex band's debut album Hopes And Fears entered the chart at number one on sales of 155,373; in 2006, Under The Iron Sea debuted in pole position with sales of 222,297 copies; in 2008, Perfect Symmetry accessed the apex with a 79,106 start; and in 2010, Night Train - which has eight tracks and a playing time of less than 32 minutes and is generally regarded as a mini album or an EP - took the title on sales of 28,063.

Strangeland's success comes despite a fairly lukewarm reception for introductory single, Silenced By The Night. Although the track has been given plenty of exposure, climbing as high as number 21 on the radio airplay chart -it recovers 27-25 this week, its sixth in the Top 50 - it has struggled in the sales chart. It finally breaches the Top 75 this week, having moved 78-152-162-46.

The only acts to have had more number one albums than Keane in the 21st century are Eminem, Robbie Williams and Westlife (seven apiece) and Madonna (six). Coldplay, Oasis and Bruce Springsteen have also had five. Eminem also topped the chart with D12, while Oasis' Noel Gallagher also reached top perch with his High Flying Birds album. Although some might suggest that 2005 import Live Recordings 2004 broke Keane's string of number ones by reaching number 131, on a less strict interpretation of their career limited to the Top 75 - which would also exclude digital releases of Live From London (2004), Live Recordings: European Tour (2008) and iTunes Live: London Festival (2010) - they have had five number one albums in a row, something only Abba (eight), Led Zeppelin (eight), The Beatles (seven) and Eminem (six) have exceeded in chart history. Of these acts, however, only The Beatles' run starts - like Keane's - with their first album.
