Yep, I'd agree with this ranking. Pat Benatar would be #5 if talking US sales alone but worldwide she was nowhere on the level of fame she had in America where she had on 5x, another 2x and everything else at least went gold or platinum that decade. In Europe she's known mainly for "Love Is A Battlefield" and nothing more.argentino78 wrote:1 Madonna

thank god someone mentioned Janet, considering she did have one of the biggest ever tours with Rhythm Nationargentino78 wrote:1 Madonna

Well, Janet Jackson isn't mentioned in this post so I cannot take it seriously.WillaMania wrote:The top3 of 80's Pop idol is clearly;
1st - Madonna
2nd - Cyndi
3rd - Kylie Minogue
Then, I'd like to make the order from 4th?.
Canditates;
Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Martika, Paula Abdul, Belinda Carlisle,
Samantha Fox, Cathy Dennis, Kim Wilde, Sheena Easton, Stacey Q,
Vanessa Paradis, Alissa Milano, Mandy Smith, Alanna Myles,
Patsy Kensit, Ana Rodríguez, Susan Anton,
Vanessa(Crazy for you), Clara Moroni aka Lisa Johnson
and more!
Right, Paula's first album alone was bigger than Kylie's entire discography put together in the US. People thought at one point she was going to eclipse Madonna's career.biscuits wrote:Paula was huge in the US in the late 80's.
even if we're doing a US listing, I'd put Pat Benatar in there instead of Taylor. Taylor had several huge hits, but I think Pat had more impact.WolfSpear wrote:1. Madonna

7. Taylor Dayne

10. Diana Ross
^ More of a US listing. I know Kylie would be thrown in there somewhere. Probably could get rid of Paula and throw her in there.
Pretty much agreed with that analysis.NothingFails wrote:even if we're doing a US listing, I'd put Pat Benatar in there instead of Taylor. Taylor had several huge hits, but I think Pat had more impact.WolfSpear wrote:1. Madonna

Even Sheena Easton could make the top 10 IMO
Whitney, and even Janet, were pop in the 80's. Songs like 'I Wanna Dance...', 'How Will I Know' and 'When I Think of You', to name a few, are pop classics.WillaMania wrote:Everyone, pleeeease!
Mariah, Whitney, Janet...and Diana and Tina Turner!?
They're R&B/Urban Contemporary DIVAs!
I'm mentioning to IDOL DANCE POP!
Different genre!!!
Whitney, Janet, Diana and Tina were all pop in the 80s. Tina hasn't been remotely r&b since she divorced Ike. You're seeing skin color instead of listening to the music. If "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" or "When I Think Of You" doesn't sound like a pop song, I don't know what does.WillaMania wrote:Everyone, pleeeease!

Absolutely Ridiculous! You must not know these ladies body of work. Tina Turner is arguably the queen of Rock and Roll. Whitney, Janet, Diana Ross, and Mariah are all pop icons. I suggest you look at the body of work and not their skin color.WillaMania wrote:Everyone, pleeeease!
