Melody Thornton is breaking out of the doll house. After topping the charts and touring the world with the Pussycat Dolls, the soulful songstress is embarking on her solo career with her first mixtape P.O.Y.B.L. Every Monday and Thursday over the next month, she will be rolling out new music and videos for her fans, with the free mixtape release on March 15.

“After the Dolls, I let everything go and took some much needed time to put myself back together,” said Melody. “We worked liked machines and there was little time for maintenance, so I’ve spent the past two years just writing, relaxing, and discovering my musical self without limitations. My amazing fans and supporters have been patiently waiting to hear the REAL Melody Thornton and this is my thank you. I’ve written so many songs and P.O.Y.B.L is the first project of many. I can only hope people love it as much as I do.”

Melody shows off her vocal chops and exposes the dark side of the music industry on the mixtape’s first offering “Lipstick&Guilt,” a remix of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild.”

Well if artists like Jazmine Sullivan and Melanie Fiona are getting by alright then I don't see why she can't.

I'm not a huge fan of Melody's voice but I must admit I really like Lipstick & Guilt. I will definitely download the mixtape. Legal free music is always nice. :P

Tracklist:
P.O.Y.B.L (Piss On Your Black List)
1. “Intro”
2. “Sweet Vendetta”
3. “Lipstick&Guilt”
4. “Smoking Gun”
5. “Loving You Better”
6. “Crazy Mixed Girl”
7. “The One That Got Away”
8. “Bulletproof” feat. Bobby Newberry
9. “Someone to Believe In”
10. “Hit the Ground Runnin’”

Melody Thornton spreads her wings and flies solo on her mixtape P.O.Y.B.L, an acronym for Piss On Your Black List. The former Pussycat Doll exposes her battles in love, music, and faith on the “soul-pop” offering, which incorporates instrumentals from the ’60s and ’70s.

In addition to the single “Sweet Vendetta” and remake of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” (“Lipstick&Guilt”), the 10 tracks consist of five remakes and four originals all written by Melody.

The project includes production from Andre Harris (“Smoking Gun”), Church and State (“Sweet Vendetta”), Mark Vinten (“Intro”), and Melody on the self-produced “Hit the Ground Runnin’,” plus a duet with Bobby Newberry (“Bulletproof”).

“Piss On Your Black List has nothing to do with being a rebel or fighting against anything. It has everything to do with fighting for myself,” explained Melody. “It’s clever with attitude. It’s kind of funny and gets a strong reaction; all things that, at times, describe my art.”

the bulletproof cover is pretty good but her voice sucks overall and they have ruined the end of the song

Pretty good mixtape, but she still needs loads of practise and needs to control her voice, to make all her songs sound good, I love Hit The Ground Running

After a quick listen I have downloaded 4 tracks.

Lipstick&Guilt
Bulletproof
Someone To Believe
Hit The Ground Running

I think those 4 songs make a nice EP! They are actually great songs. I love the version of Bulletproof. It's stripped back and really makes me listen to the lyrics and get the true meaning of the song.

Someone To Believe is breathtakingly beautiful and Hit The Ground Running is a wonderful closer. I am a sucker for strings so those two songs really work well for me.

why? there are no hard feelings between them lol, the most logical subject would be either Robin or Interscope.

The mixtape would be so much better if she had singing lessons. Her tone is all over the place like she doesn't know what part of her voice to use where.
