Hmm...This should be interesting. I'm doing a MiMi tribute soon as well. Our countdowns will be competing for the spotlight. May the best tribute win. 8-)

I should warn everybody that I prefer R&B Mariah to AC Mariah!

Let's start by getting rid of a bunch of singles...

Image

50. Get Your Number
It's quite a different sound for Mariah and sounded very cool in 2005, but a little dated now. Mariah looks hot in the video!

Image

49. Say Somethin'
The flop single from 'The Emancipation of Mimi'. I like it, but I can't believe she actually wanted it to be the lead single! That would have been an absolute disaster!

Image

48. The Impossible
This is one of the lesser popular tracks from 'Memoirs' but I like its simplicity and old school vibe. The lyrics are quite cute too.

Image

47. We Belong Together
Let's get this one out of the way early! I loved this song when I first heard it and it was my favourite song on the album. But it was sooooo overplayed and it has never recovered for me. I can only listen to it in small doses now.

Image

46. When You Believe (w/ Whitney Houston)
I do like this song, but it is also quite underwhelming.

I love TEOM! But all the singles became a bit overplayed for me so I got quite bored of them.

I made a mistake and had to get rid of one song...hopefully you're the only one who will know about it.

Now we all know why Mariah's label executives are always critical of her single choices, imagine if "Say Somethin'" was the first single, (obviously there would be no "It's like That", "We Belong Together" and "Shake it Off" since those songs were only created after she was sent back to work with Jermaine again) the whole album would probably just sell less than half of its total sales! They would have scrambled with the follow-up singles (Island Def jam always does in the case of Mimi).

I couldn't imagine a worse lead single! And it happened to be the only flop from the album (if 'Stay The Night' had been the final single, I think it could have still been a hit).

I agree! "Stay the Night", "Mine Again" and "Fly Like a Bird" were ready to be singles, they may not have been close to being as successful as "We Belong Together" but they would have given her a boost in album sales! "Say Somethin'" really killed the album's momentum. :)

She never wanted "Say Somethin'" to be a single. In fact, on BET 104 & Park a fan during the week the album was released suggested it to her as a potential single. She said something along the lines of "Hmm I think it's too Pharrell" and hinted that she would prefer "Shake It Off" instead. Which was the of course turned out to be the next single.

Back on the countdown

big YAY for "Get Your Number"! It's one of her most different sounding songs, I agree. I love the "Fantasy"-esque, joyous vocal performance on this song.

Completely agree on "When You Believe".

"The Impossible" - take it or leave it. You can tell she was going for an "Any Time, Any Place" vibe.

Although I wouldn't rank WBT so low I'm glad to see it crash out so early in your countdown. Makes things all the more interesting.

I kind of have a hunch re: one of your highest placed Mimi tracks, but I won't say any names. :P

You 'n me will get along just fine.

50. Get Your Number
Agree - loved it when the album came out but don't listen to it much at all. But, she looks 'Honey' hot in this video. 8-)

49. Say Somethin'
This is alright, I think I prefer the remix actually, but this cool every once in a while.

48. The Impossible
Not a fave of mine from MOAIA but it's OK.

47. We Belong Together
Still love this but it's not in my top 10 of hers. Again, I think I prefer the remix!

46. When You Believe
It does the job well and I like their voices together but again, not a fave of mine.

If I'm not mistaken, she rallied to release "Shake It Off" over "Say Somethin'" as the third single after "We Belong Together", but in 2004, "Say Somethin'" almost became a single (it leaked that year as well as "Tonight" which was officially named as "To the Floor"), but was scrapped since they already planned "It's Like That" by early 2005. :)

when you believe is one of my favourite songs by Mariah.

The Impossible would never make my own top 50 of her songs. Say Something is a good song. I really like it. It's much better than Stay the Night or Mine Again. Get your number is also not one of my fave tracks. It's a good listen once in a while.. but I cannot listen to it that much.

Get Your Number = decent, not great, not too bad either.

Say Somethin' = rubbish imo.

The Impossible = meh.

We Belong Together = it's in my top 5!! sad to see it crashed out early :(

When You Believe - one of the best duets ever, though it's not my favourite songs from both of them. would make my top 50 too, however

On with the chart...

Image

45. Heartbreaker
I LOVED this song when it was released and I even bought it on cassette. It's still a good song and one of Mariah's best videos, but I don't listen to it as much now.

Image

44. Sunflowers For Alfred Roy
I don't even listen to this song every often, but I love everything it stands for. I appreciate it when Mariah writes songs with actual meaning - to me, she is the best songwriter of all time.

Image

43. Endless Love
Beautiful ballad sang by two of the best voices in music.

Image

42. Emotions
I don't have a bad word to say about 'Emotions'. It's so catchy and the vocals are flawless. This has got to be one of Mariah's most underrated singles.

Image

41. Shake It Off
Even I'm surprised at how low I've ranked this one. I've always liked it and I love the video. However, it gets a bit repetitive and this is why I ranked 40 songs above it.
