Britney Spears Will Join 'X Factor' for $16 Million

Britney Spears is close to signing a $16 million deal to become a judge on The X Factor, a source has told US Weekly. "No paperwork has actually been signed yet, but they finally came to terms," the source says, noting that negotiations went on for a long time.

Britney Spears will likely fill one of the vacant mentor/judge seats next to Simon Cowell on The X Factor. I have learned that, following an overture by Cowell and an initial discussion, the pop star has received a $10 million offer to join the second season of Fox’s singing competition. The recruitment of Spears would bring the star power Cowell & Co. had been looking for after their decision to replace first-season X Factor judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The offer also would catapult Spears to the top tier of reality series talent as it is in line with what Spears’ former Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cohort Christina Aguilera will be making on the third season of The Voice and just below the $12 million Jennifer Lopez received on American Idol last season.

So we could get a confirmation as soon as next week!! :o :o

This is huge! can you imagine the auditions?? are going to be a mess! thousands of Britney' fans would go to the auditions just to meet her

I know I would 8-)
This'd be great but unfortunately it's never going to happen!

Britney's management would never let her do that.

I hate to be a party pooper but:

(1) This should have been placed in the speculation thread and will probably get locked.

(2) Just how credible is that source? Regardless, I doubt Britney's going to do this. It's unlike new Britney to want to be on TV.

I really want her to do it... it's not like it will always be a guarded Britney, this could be her breakthrough

I agree.

Despite what most people say, I think X-Factor can be a great platform for judges and reigniting success, but only if used wisely. It's beginning to enter a dangerous territory in the UK, but I believe that the US version can only grow and grow, and Britney should take advantage of that while she can.

I know Britney will bring huge ratings but someone who has never sung live telling someone they're not as good as Celine and Whitney seems so against the point.

Oh please she has sung live so many times.

Britney Spears is a pop music legend and the show is called "The X Factor" and Britney has that X factor in her blood.

13 years in the industry, 100 million albums sold, 6 world tours.

Only $10 million? Britney Spears doesn't need X-Factor's tips.

not denying she is successful ("I know Britney will bring huge ratings") but she canceled a tour because a sprained ankle would require singing live. She can't really tell someone they don't sound like Mariah when she doesn't sound like her either.

Sprained ankle right? Image (look at her knee, thanks)

But the point is that you think that vocally she's not the right person to judge..well neither does Jlo nor Paula Abdul were but it's your opinion and I respect that

I rather see Britney not doing it, I still think Fergie, Gwen Stefani etc would be a better fit for the programm itself.

I think it's time for her to get spotlight again on TV. This deal can gain more interest in her.
Just because she often lipsync recently, it doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to be a judge for this competition. She's a superstar who still survives after more than a decade, she can give some advices for the contestants how to be a star, not only about the voice.
I guess we can expect a huge rating!

I love Britney but regardless of how much of a star she was, she has no right telling people they can and can't sing. She peaked almost ten years ago (regardless of what sales she has had since).

People who respected her as an artist and performer should recognise that too.

Mariah, Whitney (If she was still with us:( ), Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Beyoncé etc.

Those people can hold a note themselves, have experience in different parts of the business, have experience and are still in the business themselves too.

It is still an singin contest for a big part, no offense but Britney has not used her voice for most of her career on the stage, so she would not be the right person to tell others what they do wrong and if they can sing or not.

Oh, come on guys! When did J.Lo and Paula Abdul sing live? Were they any performances from them that were very memorable and had so much impact on the public? Did they even try to at least audition and participate in singing contests just to know what it feels like to be in one aside from wanting to win the title? Britney has experienced these, so by credentials alone, she's totally not behind any of the current judges we see. Let's also not forget that she has so much "X-Factor" which is what the show's about. :)

You have a point

I have no hate towards Britney, I just think at this point in her career, she is not the right person, maybe if this show started in her first few album era's that she could been a perfect judge but for now I still think Britney lives on what she created back then and probably never reaches that "XFactor" point she had years ago.

But we'll see, I would be happily suprised if she would blow my mind as judge :D

Bull*hit!!

I can't sing to save my life, but does that means that I shouldn't watch these shows because I can't say or see who can or who can't sing?

And in first place judges are there for entertainment value and to bring more ratings...than to spot a star!!

and anyway I don't remember that Simon, LA Read, Louis Walsh etc can sing but they can spot a star..

so saying that If you can't sing very well you can't judge other people, to me is like saying that people who are not slim, fit and beautiful can't spot a good model, or say who will have good career in model industry for example....

They just need someone with successful career in music business and someone who will be good TV, that's all!!

Sadly, women aren't able to offer criticisms on these shows without having to continually prove that they deserve to even have the opportunity to share their opinion in the first place. Simon is completely untalented in any sort of performing art and yet his right to an opinion isn't even questioned. And yeah, he might have lots of industry experience, but Britney doesn't?

But you don't have to be able to sing to be a judge on X-factor. The show X-factor isn't about just the voice. It's about the complete package...

Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid can't sing either but they do have a lot of knowledge about the industry and what it takes to become a superstar. I think Britney has that knowledge too. She'll definitely recognize a true performer. So saying that she can't judge a show like X-factor because she doesn't sing live is just bullshit in my opinion...

This is a chance for Britney to work on her media skills again and show the dorky/funny personality that is Britney. Being a judge on X-factor could have a very positive impact on her career I think! :)

Britney didn't sell 100m albums.

And I personally think that she'd make car crash television, becoming a judge. Not my cup of tea at all!
