People keep coming for ' Paula and Jennifer can't sing'. It's slightly different, Jennifer has and can sing live whilst dancing amazingly. She's been in the industry for over 20 years as an adult performer, seeing the business as an actress, back up dancer then a star.
Paula also has much the same. She's worked and choreographed some massive stars and then became a star herself. Her forte isn't vocals, as you see how involved she gets with her acts, right down to the choreography.
The worst is the ' why do you have to sing, L.A. Reid and Simon don't' excuse. Then comparing their 'industry experience' to be on the same level as Britney's. Duration doesn't just = experience. Simon and L.A have crafted stars and successful media business which is eventually what the winners and contestants will become. Can Britney sign or coach an artist when in reality she can't motivate herself most of the time.
This isn't an 'anti Britney' as I love her and her music however much input she has just not for this role at all.
We wouldn't even see a lot of hardcore Britney fans at the auditions. Don't contestents have to audition for the producers first?? Lots will get told to go away.leoapp wrote:If Britney really becomes a judge, then i'll watch the entire season just to see Britney live on TV!![]()
Oh, and i can imagine for the audition, many Britney fans just attend the audition to meet her and sing her songs for audition
In defense of Britney Spears and J.Lo, they both know what's it like to be on stage. Simon, Randy and L.A. are there to critique and mold the artists, but when it comes to performing, delivering the goods, being on-stage to translate the entertainment to the audience and feeling all the constant pressure, I think Britney and J.Lo know a lot about that, especially Britney, who also had her share of joining talent searches, and auditioning in front of record executives for record deals.NothingFails wrote:Well Cowell, Walsh and Reid have always worked behind the scenes. I don't think people like Spears and Lopez are necessarily the best people out there to squash someone's dream of a recording career when neither of them exactly were signed on the basis of vocal talent either. What makes Britney and J. Lo worthy of music stardom just because they gave off sex appeal that some girl who almost sounds like Whitney, but just isn't quite there not?Noahh wrote:Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid can't sing either but they do have a lot of knowledge about the industry and what it takes to become a superstar. I think Britney has that knowledge too. She'll definitely recognize a true performer. So saying that she can't judge a show like X-factor because she doesn't sing live is just bullshit in my opinion...
aaliyahman wrote:As for your side note Samra, you can keep it. No one is complaining because 'she doesn't belt' or she 'doesn't have 8 octaves'. I dunno why you took on that tangent. No one has even criticised Britney in here either.
I know Britney will bring huge ratings but someone who has never sung live telling someone they're not as good as Celine and Whitney seems so against the point.
she canceled a tour because a sprained ankle would require singing live. She can't really tell someone they don't sound like Mariah when she doesn't sound like her either.
I love Britney but regardless of how much of a star she was, she has no right telling people they can and can't sing. She peaked almost ten years ago (regardless of what sales she has had since).
I hate the idea of someone who is not great vocalist to judge a talent show TBH, but if it's ok to Jennifer, Paula and for god sake Ellen Degeneres, so hell yeah Britney would be at least interesting, and sure will make people WATCH! even if she just sat there and did nothing.
^ Sounds like people are criticising Britney and complaining because she doesn't have a big voice to me.I don't think people like Spears and Lopez are necessarily the best people out there to squash someone's dream of a recording career when neither of them exactly were signed on the basis of vocal talent either. What makes Britney and J. Lo worthy of music stardom just because they gave off sex appeal that some girl who almost sounds like Whitney, but just isn't quite there not?
She has faced criticism for lip syncing since the beginning of her career so I'm sure her brand would survive. She doesn't necessarily have to perform on the show anyway. I hate to bring up Paula as an example, but the fact is that Paula has never sang live on American Idol. She didn't even perform until 2009.aaliyahman wrote:The fact is, for a singer she is perhaps the most well known for being largely a miming act these days.
In the past, lets say around 6-8 years ago. The excuse was 'her phenomenal dancing'. Now what?
The 'artist' on the panel usually performs during the course of the show. It's not a must but it usually happens. Can you imagine Britney performing on the show right before sending someone home!? It would be embarrassing for HER.
This isn't about 'shade' or 'hate' for Brit but preserving her as a brand.
That Rihanna thing is all speculation. She could have been giggling with her friend about anything.aaliyahman wrote:I remember when she performed that song from Blackout and was embarrassed that Rihanna was seen to be laughing at her... American Idol and X Factor are shows where all they care about are "big voices". Simon even said in the past he's looking for new Celine's and Mariah's, not Britney's and Madonna's. So its kinda funny to see an artist who represents what Cowell claims to be against judging someone's lack of ability of singing I Will Always Love You when I'd love to see Britney be in those shoes and try to deliver the same as the performer she's criticizing and denying the shot of achieving the fame she's had.samra wrote:^ Sounds like people are criticising Britney and complaining because she doesn't have a big voice to me..
No it's not that for me, she doesn't really have much of a 'voice' at all in my opinion.NothingFails wrote:samra wrote:^ Sounds like people are criticising Britney and complaining because she doesn't have a big voice to me..

Paula received a lot of flack for not being "vocally qualified" as well. I remember Chris Rock joking that Paula Abdul telling someone they can't sing would be like Stevie Wonder criticizing someone's eyesight.aaliyahman wrote:She has faced criticism for lip syncing since the beginning of her career so I'm sure her brand would survive. This will be Britney on X-Factor:werewolf wrote:I love her, but she would probably keep saying "Awww that was so sweet! I love it!" (=boring as hell). I guess that would be a good decision for Brit as her career has slowed down recently.

Well if big voices are so important, why aren't most of the American Idol winners, besides Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood (although she's mostly a local US act), blazing the charts right now?NothingFails wrote:American Idol and X Factor are shows where all they care about are "big voices". You can't claim that Britney isn't qualified to judge singing and then start talking about Paula's work as a choreographer and her involvement in creating Janet's trademark moves as justification that she is more qualified.aaliyahman wrote:Paula was a choreographer first, she's helped master the likes of Janet Jackson's trademark moves, something that Britney has 'borrowed from' since day one. There's much more in terms of involvement with Paula.
The Gimme More performance was bad but what girls are you talking about. The only 'modern pop girls' I think that would 'struggle' or do it 'just the same' are Rihanna or maybe Kesha. I'm sure the rest would do more than fine.
