I doubt it sadly... they didn't with "All Night Long" or "Start Without You" when they became hits. :(

I think you explained it just fine! ;)

Thanks! :P

It's overtaken Hot Right Now, so we're at 6... it has fallen a spot to 6 in Ireland too, hopefully that's not an indication that it'll peak and fall pretty quickly here...

I'm not a big fan of the song, but I think Alexandra has a great voice, so I hope it does well.

She climbed a place to #12 on the TV airplay chart this week. I just think if Capital picked this up, it could give it some longevity. She blatantly does not need Radio 1 at all!

Woo!! So glad it's doing great on iTunes. I was afraid this was going to be a flop for her! This song deserves to go #1! :D

So so happy, took so long to get out of 5 (was iTunes frozen?) that I wasn't expecting No.3 at all :D Delighted, and didn't realise she was doing This Morning tomorrow too :D

According to Dan Wootton on Twitter, "Elephant" is #2 in the midweeks! :D Alex has also re-tweeted his tweet. So pleased for her! :D

Big congrats to @alexandramusic who is No2 in the midweeks with her new single Elephant. Take that, haters. She's still OK.com
She's appearing on This Morning today too. :)

She's doing more than OK.com!

It'll be sad if she gets to #2 in a way, because if she had radio support, it would have probably secured a safe #1 spot!

How is she #2 when she's only #3 on iTunes is she higher somewhere? I still think #2 debut is great considering the sheer lack of radio support

Pop Justice writes

The first time we heard about 'Elephant', we thought it sounded like a career killer.

The first time we heard a short bit of 'Elephant', we laughed.

The first time we heard it in full, we just felt a bit sad that Alexandra's personality and spirit and attitude, or what we understood all those things to be, had somehow been lost in a stampede to make a song apparently designed to sound enough like everyone else, or enough not like Alexandra, to stand some chance of sneaking into the charts without anybody noticing. Isn't Alexandra good enough the way she is, we wondered.

The first time we saw the dismal video for 'Elephant', we simply wondered why nobody involved in the video had bothered making it better.

Anyway she'd plugged the arse off it, it's out this week, and this has already happened.

It might not hold at Number 5, but it's still a not-bad showing.

We're not sure exactly what this all proves. 'Elephant' still sounds to us like a waste of a good popstar, and we're not sure even a Number 5 hit is really what Alex needs to launch her second album. But we thought it was a career killer, and while we didn't revel in potential disaster like some inhabitants of the internet's darker recesses, we were wrong. So there you go.

Pop bars are back - she's at almost exactly 75% of Gotye at No.1, there is no chance of her getting to the No.1 spot really but I am delighted with No.2, given the circumstances!

There is a decent chance she will fall a spot to three - in terms of where she stands against the others, Nicki is at 83% of Gotye and Emeli at 61% - so she has a decent cushion both above and below her. However, if she stays firm, she should ensure a top 3 comeback.. :D

In other good news, a friend just text me to say Scott Mills just played this on his show, without any reason (ie, Alexandra being on the phone/in the studio/part of his floor fillers) so while this doesn't mean it's getting playlisted - regular plays ala 'Moves Like Jagger' from Radio 1 would be ace.

Plus they'll have to play it on the Chart Update and the Official Chart this week so that's 2 more spins at least!

Hope she gets decent opening sales, I think Gotye was on about 75k for #1 last week so is 50k too ambitious to hope for, for this?

I'm just really relieved this didn't do a "Drummer Boy" which I thought was possible a few weeks ago.

Thank god for that!

I think that's a reasonable suggestion - both Emeli and Nicki at 2 and 3 did 53/54k last week.. as I'd expect Nicki to do the same if not more, I'd say Alexandra should be close to that too whether she ends up at 2 or 3.

The data that puts it at No.2 today has Gotye at 22k, Alexandra on 16.1, Nicki 500 copies behind and Emeli a bit less than 3k behind Alex. Tomorrow should bring a clearer indication and we may see Alex at 3 by then as this was largely pre-orders.

Oh, hold up. She's also showing at No.40 with a further 2,250 sales. So thats nearly 3k above Nicki, and over a 5k cushion on Emeli!
