TOP 10

Image

10. Joy Ride
There has been a massive 11 'The Emancipation of Mimi' tracks thus far, but out of all of them, it is 'Joy Ride' which makes my top 10! This was always the song I ignored when I got the album. It just seemed like a typical ballad so I'd skip over it. But a few years ago, I actually bothered to listen to it and I completely fell in love with it. The vocals, the harmonies, the melody - all perfect. I think this song often gets overshadowed by other 'Mimi' tracks, but it's superb in my opinion!

I honestly thought I'd receive lots of negative feedback, especially for neglecting her early work. 8-)

Joy Ride is a very good song. Love the long note at the end. It would certainly not make my own Mariah Top 10, but I understand the love. Little pieace of trivia: Joy Ride was the initial title of the album. :)

Joyride: 6,5/10 I instantly loved it when I first played TEOM. The bridge is insanely great.

40. The One - one of the better ones from CB. I still think it woulda done better than Boy. Love the remix with Bone Crusher too.
39. Don't Stop - don't mind this, its fun. Plus she lets rip on the bridge.
38. Mine Again - showcases the voice but not a fave of mine.
37. Through The Rain - I like it, but she's done a lot better.
36. Circles - one of my favourite ballads from TEOM.
35. Crybaby - underrated, I dig it!
34. Close My Eyes - atmospheric but can't say I listen to it much.
33. Babydoll - love the lyrics and vocals on this.
32. It's Like That - hot. Still fun to hear on a night out.
31. Melt Away - one of my favourites. Amazing.
30. Can't Let Go - one of her earlier songs I really like.
29. The Roof - This. My favourite. The hotness.
28. Stay The Night - Highlight from TEOM.
27. Candy Bling - Like the sentiment but not a fan of the original. Love the remix though.
26. Theme From Mahogany - not for me.
25. Sprung - pass.
24. Fourth of July - a lesser Underneath the Stars but still good.
23. Heartbreaker Remix - Hells yes.
22. Fantasy - reminds me of childhood. Prefer the remix but this original is amazing too.
21. Loverboy - yeah... nah.
20. Thank God I Found You Remix - one of my alltime faves from her. The combo of her and Joe's vocals with Nas' rhymes? Amazing.
19. 100% - Think this is overrated.
18. Butterfly - like the lyrics, production and vocals but its not a fave.
17. I Wish You Knew - another decent ballad, but not a fave.
16. There Goes My Heart - love the sample but it doesn't work as a whole, for me.
15. I Feel It - Prefer this to most of her unreleased stuff. It's hot.
14. Don't Forget About Us - dig this, but she's done much better.
13. Honey (Def Club Mix) - Not a fan of her dance remixes, this included.
12. Slipping Away - love it. Criminal they didn't include this on Daydream.
11. Always Be My Baby - classic. Nuff said. Love the remix too.
10. Joy Ride. Average, for me.

Diggin this countdown biscuits - your taste in MC is more in line with mine than most Mariah fans.

9. H.A.T.E. U
When I first heard a snippet of this, before the album was released, it gave me chills! Those slowed down vocals sounded so amazing and I couldn't wait to hear the song in full. When I finally did hear the song in full, I wasn't disappointed! I really loved the song and I played it all the time. However, I definitely overplayed it and it lost its spark. I don't think it worked well as a single - the live performances were boring and the video was just atrocious. Still, it's one of my favourite ballads from her.

Will you do a run down at the end?

So far, I'm not keen on your top 10! H.A.T.E. U is pretty nice, sometimes.

8. Dreamlover
There's not much pre-1995 stuff on my chart, but 'Dreamlover' manages to make my top 10! I love this song so much and it has got to be one of Mariah's most underrated singles ever. I don't remember it being released because I was only 5, but apparently it was huge. So I don't understand why it seems to get overlooked so much these days! I can only imagine how breathtaking it must have been to hear the song in 1993, as it's completely different to Mariah's previous singles. This is full on R&B but she managed to make the transition perfectly. I love playing this song in summer - really loud! The bass on this track is insane!

Slipping Away is sensational and has some of the best vocal arrangement by Mariah.

Always Be My Baby is an immaculate 10. <3

H.A.T.E. U - An absolutely PERFECT song to me. I diss "Memoirs" all the time, but I simply adore this ballad. She really struck gold with that one. At times I think I dig it more than WBT even. Yes, that much. I wish it was a big hit. The only snippet from Amazon I remember being impressed by and the whole thing didn't let me down at all. I seriously love this song and am very glad it's in your top 10.

Dreamlover - Another one I love. This upbeat song has the same effect Janet's "Because Of Love" has on me: it makes me feel so good inside! It's so happy. Great whistles too! :)

"H.A.T.E.U." is a great song for me.
Second best song on Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

I never really enjoyed "Dreamlover" like other fans did.
I always thought it was too insipid, which is why I can only listen to it every now and then.

Hate U: 10/10 > I absolutely adore this song. it's simply one of my favourite songs by her. it's exceptional.

Dreamlover: 6/10 I actually never liked it that much but it's a trademark 90's upbeat song.

I should get my #7 out of the way because my Top 6 are in a completely different league! (The difference between my #6 and #7 is huge!) I'm still trying to rank #2-#6, it's so interchangeable.

7. Honey
So yes, I love 'Honey' but it would come nowhere near my all important top 6! It's an excellent song and really made me pay attention to Mariah. I was mesmerised by the video and I thought she was the sexiest woman ever! And obviously...the voice! I never get bored of listening to 'Honey' and I still think this is her best video. The heavy beat matched with Mariah's sweet vocals, along with appearance from the Bad Boy family...this song really is perfect! (This is the 2nd appearance of 'Honey' on my countdown because the 'Def Club' mix was #13. The 'Bad Boy' remix hasn't charted yet though, so there is still hope that it is my highest charting single)

Her voice is ridiculous on Honey. Just ridiculous. I mean who does stuff like that?

Def Club remix is her best remix ever (after Pure imagination maybe).
