But why do you say that.

I think it goes beyond "Tommy & Sony just didn't care anymore." He basically blacklisted her: both on Butterfly, #1s and Rainbow.

It wasn't the music, SpyVsSpy. Because the album was ripe to dominate the charts in 1999 and 2000. And as goofy as she came off back then, it wasn't her image.

All three of those albums were just mismanaged.

The gap between the singles Honey and My All speaks volumes. Honey was doing it's thing on radio and on the charts in August and September of 1997, right? But My All didn't come out until when?

April 1998.

I don't know what's more pathetic.

The fact that only 2 songs out of album composed of 12 songs saw "the single treatment" or the fact that there was a six month gap in between the two singles.

And the whole controversy with Do You Know Where You're Going To is just

You mean to tell me that Sony didn't know that Mariah already had that song scheduled to be remade and recorded for her #1s album?

I mean, it'd be one thing if J. Lo and Mimi were on separate record labels. It'd be another thing if Mariah was on the Columbia Records branch and if Jennifer was on the Epic Records branch and there was just a general  moment.

But they were BOTH on Columbia Records.

But what's really hilarious is that after all of the label drama, Sony asked her if she wanted to renew her contract.

What I would give to see her facial expression when they asked her that.

----------------------

And by the way...what's with the sudden interest in a Mariah-Celine duet?

And how on Earth would that fit within the theme of the album that everyone wants from Mariah.
I agree with everything u state here about that era. But from a personal perspective her music and image on rainbow werent attractive.. In fact i think she was a bit embarassing at that point. I think tommy set her on course for a crash and it obviously worked.

The AC boring theme? the old retired singer nursery theme?

I see Wayne has some dragging to do when he logs in...

Not attractive to her older, adult contemporary fans maybe. And she definitely lost them with Rainbow.

But Mariah did some serious musical and thematic experimentation with Rainbow. Not to mention, the make-up of her fanbase really changed for the better with Rainbow. Her fans were young and came from different racial and social backgrounds.

I know quite a few people who couldn't really be bothered with Mariah in 1993 suddenly started following her in 1999.

Still...it's not her best album. And the cover is a FAIL. A semi-sexy fail but a fail nonetheless.

But there is no filler on the Rainbow album. At least, none I can see.

Every song might not be able to stand on its own two feet as a viable single but every song contributes to the core concept of the album.

If Frank Ocean can calm it down and put his ego on the shelf...then yeah...

I'm down.
I can feel this light that's inside of me, growing fast into a bolt of lightning. I know one spark will shock the world...

1. she invited Nilko Andreas (here's a example of how much of a beast he is) and his band over to her house for a jam session back in October

2. she was hanging around with Uncle Murda's people back when she sang that stupid hook for the remix for the Warning. And she was in the studio with them for far too long just to sing a hook and drink a couple glasses of wine.

3. and that she was meeting up with the producers of LMFAO. And that was back in January.

I seriously doubt that she only has 4 songs completed.

The album will be out in ample time for a submission for the 55th Grammy Awards. And it's looking like the deadline will be in late September.
Who/when did she say she had a meeting with the LMFAO producers?

Rainbow is so underrated here! It's a good album! It's amazing to know how Mariah could rush-released a good album like Rainbow.

sony completely mishandled the Butterfly album. But Mariah is partly to blame too. she should have brought the Butterfly tour to Europe too. I mean Music Box sold almost 8 million copies in Europe, Daydream did more than 3,5 million and then Butterfly only sold like 1,2 million..

What's reported in the media is that she's completed 4 songs.

She has in fact recorded more than 4.

And Celine Dion is a fantastic vocalist.

For anyone to say Mariah is "too good" for her, shows an inability to recognize real talent, and is just plain disrespectful.

One of the most amazing singers of our generation. There's not many left made of the same caliber as her and Mariah.

Hi guys, it took me 4 months before I could join this forum hahaha. I don't know why it must be because I used a gmail account before. But I finally got in using my yahoo mail which I should have so tried months ago. Anyhow, I've lurked enough (more than the 4 months I waited for the ukmix confirmation email ugh) to see things happen here: the highs, lows, relentless memoirs discussions, the hate for the JB remix, The Warning (ugh), the arguments, The Tone (I kid, I kid). And I've been wanting to join the forum since you guys wanted to suggest producers for Mariah's next record. And I wanted to suggest The Weeknd so bad but I couldn't that I even messaged poisonparadise on his tumblr account and told him to suggest The Weeknd to this forum. And now I'm just so glad someone suggested The Weeknd. I mean, every time I listen to his songs particularly The Birds Part 1 and Rolling Stone, I can just imagine Mariah doing them, and slaying them with her rich lower register and perhaps, with her reclaimed, solid midregister. Since The Weeknd I think is associated with Kanye (is he???) I wish he could hook up with Mariah in the studio, I would die if Mariah does something like the song Rolling Stone, pleeeease!

So enough about that rambling. I'm so happy I finally got to register. I can't believe I waited freaking four months when all I needed it seems was yahoo email. BTW, I'm a lamb from the Philippines!

And since this is lengthy already, I just want to say I think this forum is the best Mariah forum mainly because it's not an adoration site, but an honest thread where people discuss, have fun, and even critique. So yay, no more lurking for me.
