Gaga released her album in May last year and I think it sold 2 million in it's 1st week WW. But took the rest of the year to sell over 3 million and she had the biggest promo last year.

Total sales from last year on media traffic

Lady GaGa - Born This Way
Interscope - 5,4 million copies

Michael Bublé - Christmas
Reprise - 5,2 million copies

21 should pass 5million in 3 or 4 weeks time.

At The rate Adele is promoting 21 at the moment (i.e none) I do not see 21 getting close to 30 m. In some European countries the album is already slipping to and over the ten position. At this rate she will not be a major seller in the 2012 Xmas period. Shania managed three lucrative Xmas peiods, but that was WITH music videos and a world tour. Selling another 800k in Canada, Never gonna happen. Her sales in the US will slow, she has already gone down from 730k to 190k. She will eventually reach 10 min in the US, but it could be sooner rather than later. As for the olympics, it is not gonna benefit 21 much, most people in western countries already know of Adele. The Olympics only count when you're a complete unknown. It may contribute, but not much.

Maybe in her mind , she has acieved enough, and does not feel like pushing the album further. But in my opinion she is lazy. Seriously, no video for Set Fire to the Rain, no word on her tour recommencing, no word on a video (unlikely) for RHI.

With continued touring etc, yes she could maybe reach 30 min, but as of now. No Way!!

Hello everyone!

I have been following the forum for a few months now but I had never posted before. As most people here, I am amazed with the level of success Adele is reaching worldwide.

I hope I can contribute the site with my input and that it will be helpful to other users.

I am especially interested in the particular case of South Africa. Even though I have seen users posting sales of over 200,000 or 250,000 copies for "21", I have not found any reference to that. The only reference I found says "21" was certified 2x Platinum 6 months after being released for 100,000 shipped.
Could anyone help me out finding a source for the actual sales in this country?

Thank you all.
Just here for the music.

It's quality not quantity with Adele and promo. Unlike seemingly every other artist out there she simply doesn't need to whore herself out to all and sundry. Hence when she does some promo the results are massive and long lasting due it feeling 'special'. This album will be at at least 10% over 30 million shipped by the and of this year.

You can't say that the interest is decreasing in the US because sales fell from 730k to 190k...
The 730k were because of her big Grammy-hype.
Before Christmas and in the weeks between Christmas and the Grammy, she sold between 100k and 150k for months so 21 is just selling at its normal rate at the moment.
Promotion is relatively: Without promo, Adele can sell more than other big artists with promo (Gaga/Rihanna/Katy). This shows that she doesn't need the whole promo-thing... Of course she could totally go for it, release 8 singles of the album with huge music videos, go to each show, release a deluxe edition and stuff, but I guess that she would lose all crebility.
Shania Twain also didn't go that way and she also had so-called stars (people appearing in the press and being discussed) at her time...
I don't see why 21 shouldn't also rule by next Christmas and do it like Come On Over. You still hear Rolling In The Deep, SLY and SFTTR everywhere and even if Shania Twain released 11 (!) singles in the US, she had her certain hits which ruled radio, too, and I don't see why 21 can't reach Come On Over-sales.

We thought we wouldn't see another blockbuster album today and 21 isn't just a blockbuster but it's having more influence and is chart-dominating even more than some of the biggest albums of the 80s and 90s and at the current rate, it'll rank among the 10 all-time-best-sellers someday.

^^^^^

No video for SFTTR, she did not perform it in the US but it still hit #1 on the Hot 100.

Lazy?????? Not at all. Adele picked the shows she wanted 2 perform on while doing promo. It was all about getting max sales for the promo she did - and it warked.
And touring - you must know that she could not speak or sing for a few months but still was selling more than new release albums.

Adele not like Gaga/Perry/Rihanna and the other generics who depend on going on every show, stripping off and doing just about anything and everything just 2 grap headlines for sales.

Agreed. It's previously been one of the countries where '21' (relatively!) under-performed. Perhaps my recent post requesting the foreign office gave them a kick up the arse didn't fall on deaf ears after all

So she's at 25+ million actual career to date album sales. That would probably equate to 27.5 million shipped.

IRMA have not, unfortunately, released a full list of the best sellers.
However as I have previously stated:

-White Ladder is the best-selling album of all time.

-Your suggestion about 'A Woman's Heart' is wrong I'm afraid, both position and sales. It is the best selling IRISH album in Ireland, and the 3RD best overall.

This information is from IRMA, and I reconfirmed it with them this afternoon.

Adele is getting very close to the biggest selling albums of all time in Ireland, and we can only hope IRMA release details of any milestones to the public.

Columbia will continue its exclusive run of #1 albums this week as One Direction joins label mates Adele and Bruce Springsteen as the only acts to top the chart so far this year. In what may be a four-peat for Columbia, The Shins will see some stiff competition next week from Universal Republic's soundtrack to The Hunger Games. Google's 25-cent sale continues to have an impact on this week's chart as Guns N' Roses lands at #3 with their Greatest Hits collection. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:

*One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 165-175k
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 150-160k
Guns N' Roses (Geffen) 75-80k
Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 50-55k
Whitney Houston Greatest Hits (RCA) 45-50k
Drake (YM/Cash Money/Universal Republic) 25-30k
Now 41 (Capitol/EMI) 24-27k
Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 21-24k

Let me make it clear... I am not anti-Adele. But you know the truth is that you get a very special window of oppurtunity to shine, be a critical darling and sell lots of albums, especially in todays market. I agree that this album sells itself, I do not want her to become overexposed. Four singles is fine by me (not eight LOL) but you should do the neccessary promotion (ie a live performance, video) to go along with said single. I BELIEVE that Set fire to The Rain could have been a bigger hit in other parts of the world (ie nr 1 in the UK etc) if it was accompanied by a video.

Talking of selling out, if she does X Factor with Simon Cowell I am giving away my copy of 21, or using it as a coaster. He is the worst thing to happen to music since ever. Adele stay AWAY, stay far away.
