I've decided that this will be my first chart of the year ....guess its time to get started.

I get my positions from Last.fm based on how many times I listened to the album/single for the singles and album chart and just make up (reasonable) sales based on charting position

The most surprising entry this week is by the one and only Mariah Carey who has been getting rave reviews after delivering her first performance since giving birth to twins Monroe and Moroccan, her 1993 hit Dreamlover from her blockbuster album Music Box sits at number 2 this week.

Oasis remains at number one for two consecutive weeks blocking both Adele and Mariah Carey from reaching the top spot. Hype from Mariah Carey's most recent performance is slowing down but there are still high hopes for a new album in the near future. Foster The People have two songs entering the top 5 this week claiming the positions 3 and 5. Beyonce has the greatest gainer with Love On Top climbing from 19 to 6. The controversial Rihanna and Chris Brown remixes reside at number 20 and 12. Whitney Houston enters at number 9 this week her first posthumous entry. The Wanted having been receiving a lot of plays since I discovered the sexual innuendo of their hit single Glad You Came they are definitely ones to watch in the future. And finally after the poorly received singles Roman In Moscow and Stupid Hoe Nicki Minaj seems to have finally found a hit with Roman Reloaded and Starships coming in at 4 and 11 respectively.

This week I will introduce a new album chart and who better to kick it off than Adele with 570,000 copies of 21 sold this week leaving her nearest competition Talk That Talk by Rihanna in the dust with 380,000 copies sold. Coldplay have two albums in the top 10 this week with Viva La Vida and Mylo Xyloto at numbers 7 and 8 receptively selling a combined 590,000 copies this week. Nicki Minaj's Barbie World mixtape is the only mixtape to chart on the albums chart with 160,000 copies sold one can only hope that her upcoming album will be as good as her previous mixtapes. The Beatles make a surprising top 5 entry this week with their blockbuster album Abbey Road selling 311,000 copies and to round out the top 10 Florence + The Machine come in at number 10 despite their single Shake It Off falling out the top 20 of the singles chart.

Rihanna claims three spots in the top 10 this week with her two singles Talk That Talk coming in at number 8 and her other single Birthday Cake (remix) coming in at 9, she is also featured on Drake's song Take Care which is at number 4 this week. The controversial Rihanna and Chris Brown remixes Birthday Cake and Turn Up The Music share the title of greatest gainer this week. And the biggest drop this week surprisingly comes from Adele who's album was just certified gold last week. Her single Rolling In The Deep dropped from number 7 to 31 this week. Who will be able to dethrone Oasis? They have blocked Adele for two weeks in a row from the top spot and even blocked Mariah Carey from the top spot after her well received comeback performance.
