Just before I reveal the top 2, here's how many songs have charted from each album so far:

Mariah Carey 0
Emotions 2
Music Box 1
Merry Christmas 0
Daydream 5 (including ABMB remix and Slipping Away)
Butterfly 7
Rainbow 5
#1's 3
Glitter 2
Charmbracelet 5
The Emancipation of Mimi 13 (including I Feel It)
E=MC2 0
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel 4 (including 100%)

In order of songs on chart:
The Emancipation of Mimi
Butterfly
Daydream / Charmbracelet / Rainbow
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel
#1's
Glitter / Emotions
Music Box
Mariah Carey / E=MC2 / Merry Christmas

I've already admitted that I don't like AC Mariah, so it's not surprising to see her early albums do badly. As for E=MC2? I really do think this album is terrible, despite it being released during the urban phase of her career. (I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time nearly made my top 50 though).

The original is really good, but I don't think the remix is that bad.
I like it. :]

Yay!

I'm listening to 'Music Box' previews on iTunes now - I like what I'm hearing! I should definitely check out early 90's Mariah! :o

Tough crowd indeed! Personally, I love BLISS. It's unique in Mariah's catalogue for the way she uses her whistle register as the chorus, and the song is just dripping in sex. I like that it just kind of meanders around and doesn't go anywhere. Definitely a highlight on RAINBOW, if just for the fact that it's so different for her.

Also adore the ABMB remix. It's sleeker and sexier than the original (which is not to say that I prefer it, because I don't) and is a great example of how Mariah was slaying in the remix department at that time. She would give three different versions of a song (R&B/Hip-hop, pop and club), all with different vocals and all spectacular in their own way. We were so spoiled.

Thanks for your list, Biscuits! Loving it, even if my list would be very different. It's always great to hear why people love different songs. :)

Completely agree with your comments, especially about 'Bliss' dripping in sex.

2. Breakdown
This song cemented my status as a Mariah fan. I didn't buy the 'Butterfly' album when it was released, so I first heard this song when I saw the video on TV. I just couldn't believe what I was hearing! This was the most captivating and endearing song I'd ever heard! Mariah and Bone-Thugs work together so well and the tone of this song is phenomenal. I was in awe of the video because I'd never seen Mariah like this before and it's still one of my favourite videos from her. After hearing it just once, I could not get this song out of my head and had to go out and buy the 'Butterfly' album. I bought the album just for this one song, so I'm lucky that the album as a whole is incredible! The lyrics - perfect! I would use this song to explain to people why I think Mariah is the best songwriter of all time. Sure, they'd probably laugh at me, but who cares? What matters is that I can totally relate to this song and it showcases Mariah's intelligence and emotional understanding and shows us that she is human, just like the rest of us.

Yes @ Breakdown holding down at No. 2. Such a classic. Just re-watched the video. Not sure why she's in a casino/cabaret/whatever, but she sure looks gorgeous.

This is making me want to do my own list! Overkill?

Breakdown: 9/10 Even though there are a few songs on Butterfly that I adore more, Breakdown is pretty much as good as R&B could get! The video is super sexy.

+1...but to Poszi, lol.

"Breakdown" is super smashing.
The song is so well written (your faces can't), and Mariah's vocals are so smooth (your faves couldn't). And the video is amazing. Well done, Biscuits.

Well, as most of the usual posters have commented on #2, I may as well go ahead with #1...

Image

1. FLY LIKE A BIRD
This was always my #1 - no doubt about it. And it has been my #1 Mariah song since 2005. It's going to be hard to explain why I love this song so much, but I'll give it a try...
The most important thing about this song for me is the lyrics. I'm quite a religious person so a spiritual song like this for me is absolutely perfect. It's not preachy, but it's so moving and uplifting. I can very easily relate to the lyrics and this song has helped me pull through hard times on a number of occasions. For that, I'm so grateful to MC and this song will always, always be special to me. This is probably one of the best written songs ever in my opinion.
Next, the vocals. ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! This is the greatest vocal by any performer in the history of history! 7 years later, the final chorus still gives me chills. Her voice is so strong and powerful that it can even move me to tears (paired with the inspirational lyrics). The live performances are EPIC indeed, and I'm so happy Mariah has performed this song live a number of times.
The addition of the choir works wonderfully and really makes the climax of the song all that more sensational. The entire pace of the song is perfect, how it gradually builds and builds and finally unleashes into this monster vocal and production.
This would be my favourite song of ALL TIME if it wasn't for a particular Janet Jackson song! But wow, this song really does give me life (and I NEVER use that phrase). Awww, I'm getting quite emotional just writing about how much I love this song!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented on this! It was my very first personal chart and y'all made it so much fun and a big success! And it was interesting hearing everyone's thoughts. I'm definitely going to do another chart soon now. :D

And well done ForeverYoung for correctly guessing my #1! Was 'Fly Like a Bird' what you thought my #1 would be from the start?

Fly Like a Bird: 10/10 or A+

This song is easily one of the greatest songs Mariah's ever recorded. It's one of those gospel songs that really lift your spirit and bring your nearer to God. I love this song so much. It would easily rank inside my top 10 too.

The song was actually released as a radio-single in 2006 and reached more than 20 million in audience impressions which is incredible for a gospel song by a R&B female.

Fly Like a Birs is one of a handful of songs that I still regularly play from the MIMI album.

Yes, that's the one I had in mind when I posted my first comment in the thread. I remembered how you had praised the vocal performance in the past.

Perfect #1. A truly terrific song.
