I'm trying to make myself like this album, but I find a lot of it quite bland and indistinguishable. There are so many moments where I feel like it's going somewhere great, but it never does, it just falls flat and moves to the next song. :(

"Mountains" does have a gorgeous arrangement though.

It's such an amazing album! Usually I don't really like albums that are so ballad heavy, but it's doesn't bother me at all with this album. It's just absolutely incredible.
Read All About It Part 3, Mountains, River and Clown are my favourite album tracks at the moment, but it's almost impossible to pick a favourite.
Love the booklet aswell, so classy,

king_oxymoron wrote:Speaking of, was that song already written when Pro Green came along? When did she announce the title of her album, as obviously it's in that song.
I don't think so, especially since she doesn't have any writing credits on the original Read All About It. The album title was announced on August 18 and I think Read All About It was already recorded before it.

The album has debuted at #9 in The Netherlands, which is pretty incredible!

BRITs Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande today tops off what has been an incredible twelve months for the Scottish singer/songwriter. Her debut studio album, Our Version Of Events, today topples reigning queen Lana Del Rey from the Official Albums Chart throne, as well as becoming 2012’s second fastest-seller so far - smashing the 100k sales barrier with a first week sale of over 113,000 copies.

Fantastic, the single sold over 100k too! :o I can see this album having great longevity, even if she has released the best tracks from it now.

UK

23 year old Sande's Our Version Of Events storms to the summit on first week sales of 113,319 - the best for a debut album by a British female solo artist since fellow Scot Susan Boyle's first album I Dreamed A Dream exploded onto the chart with sales of 411,820 in December 2009. Perhaps surprisingly, it's not the only link between the two - Sande co-wrote This Will Be The Year, which was a track on Boyle's third number one album, Someone To Watch Over Me, last December.

Sande's 2011 hit singles Heaven (number two) and Daddy (number 21) are on Our Version Of Events, along with third single Next To Me, which debuts at number two on the singles chart this week, after selling 103,438 copies. It is the third highest sale for a number two single in the last 12 months, being bested only by the 116,578 copies that Little Mix's Cannonball sold on its 31 December 2011 debut, and the 115,530 copies that Labrinth's Earthquake (feat. Tinie Tempah) sold when it debuted at number two, eight weeks earlier. Another track from Sande's album - Read All About It Part III - also enters the Top 75, at number 49 (7,255 sales). As its title suggests, it is based on Professor Green's 2011 number one, Read All About It, on which Sande was featured.

Didn't Rebecca Ferguson debut with more than 113k? It didn't hit higher than #3 though.

I agree with those who say it'd be nice this album had a few more uptempos, but every track is so good that I can forgive her for it. "Maybe" and "Breaking The Law" are so good right now.

Emeli performed "Hope" on Sport Relief tonight and it was AMAZING... possibly my favourite live performance I've seen her do.

I agree. It's the only song I like. I expected better.
Next To Me irritates the life out of me.
Not a fan of her arm-waving head-nodding when she sings either. It really puts me off.

I think it's time for a ranking:

01. Clown
02. Read All About It Part 3
03. River
04. Heaven
05. Daddy
06. Next To Me
07. Suitcase
08. Maybe
09. My Kind Of Love
10. Mountains
11. Breaking The Law
12. Where I Sleep
13. Hope
14. Lifetime

But the whole album is just incredible. I've listened to it so much since I first got it back in February.
Clown stands out for me though, especially since watching an acoustic performance of it that's on her Vevo page. Stunning!

+1 exactly the same feeling. I love her voice and the singles. But the album lacks something. It's close to a WOW effect as an album but it just doesn't get there yet. She has way more potential than she shows off on the album. But don't shoot me! I bought the album and it's a good album overall. Just not completely there yet for me.
