Why do you think Celine was bigger at BMG? I made those estimates based on your own statement about Columbia...

04wayne wrote:...it was the mother of all record clubs - the biggest music club in the States of all-time.
...and assuming Celine albums sold more or less the same in both record clubs. (Although we know they could have sold more in Columbia -again, based on your statement-).

Falling into You
-SoundScan: 10,790,000
-BMG: 987,000
-Columbia: ~987,000
TOTAL: ~ 12,764,000

Let's Talk About Love
-SoundScan: 9,563,370
-BMG: 1,110,000
-Columbia: ~1,110,000
TOTAL: ~ 11,783,370

If these albums have actually sold around 12.8 and 11.8 million, why is it so hard to believe that they have shipped 13 and 12 million respectively?

I was wondering if Celine would benefit from the Titanic campaign, so I'm glad to see that it is, I hope My Heart Will Go On will enter the UK Top 40. :D

The reason I say that she was probably bigger at BMG is purely mathematical - her albums were available at BMG for a hell of a lot longer than they were Columbia.

Both possibilities, no doubt. I however still believe that she was bigger at BMG, overall.

Sony stopped shipping Falling Into You a long time ago - if it was eligible for a 13x platinum certification, it would've been certified as such back in the 90's/early 00's.

Same for Lets Talk About Love. Again, I could be wrong about the above - I doubt it though, it doesn't happen often. 8-)

Billboard wrote:The superstar ranks as the best-selling female album artist dating to the advent of Nielsen SoundScan data in 1991. At 53.7 million, she trails only Garth Brooks (68.6 million) and the Beatles (63.5) among all artists.

Among women, Carey places ahead of Celine Dion (51.6), Shania Twain (34.1), Britney Spears (32.5) and Reba McEntire (30).

Carey is an artist for all seasons, as her 1994 carol "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the most-downloaded holiday song, according to SoundScan. The song has sold 2.1 million downloads. No other seasonal track has passed even 1 million in digital sales.

What a joke that Celine is certified for less shipped albums than her SoundScan total shows :o

Outstanding total for her, I hope that Celine and Mariah will be able to defend their positions against Eminem for a little while.

If you add an additional 10m copies to her RIAA, you get nearer the actual amount of albums she's sold stateside.

I would love Celine to release her new album in November and get those platinum sales.

I'm only here for platinum sales. In my opinion she even deserves to get another multiplatinum album because she is such a sweet person and workaholic.

I could imagine the chartrun to be like this:

week 1 - #1 - 200.000
week 2 - #5 - 100.000 (Thanksgiving)
week 3 - #8 - 60.000
week 4 - #12 - 70.000
week 5 - #12 - 80.000
week 6 - #10 - 100.000 (Christmas Week)
week 7 - #10 - 50.000

= that would already total 660k in just 7 weeks

Today: #668, #707 :)
Yesterday: #741, #808

The #668 on the main chart is #28 on the soundtrack chart and the #707 is #188 on the pop chart.

On the soundtrack chart there are other versions of My Heart Will Go On: #261, #528, #874

This is how Taking Chances fared with a mid-November release, no hit single but some HOT promotion:

Week 01 - 214,556
Week 02 - 128,086
Week 03 - 92,621
Week 04 - 84,147
Week 05 - 92,336
Week 06 - 134,271
Week 07 - 50,205
Week 08 - 23,057
Week 09 - 13,723
Week 10 - 10,361

= 843,363

And the album finished with over 1,040,000 copies sold.

Celine won't have Oprah this time though. Not sure if that will be a problem. Probably not.

She appeared on Oprah 27 times - the most of any celebrity in the show's history. Oprah immensely helped Celine's first week album sales - I mean hell, it even helped Miracle reach 1m sales! How many acts can claim to have a million-selling children's album? Hopefully, Celine will do all of the other shows.

As for My Heart Will Go On, it depends on whether Titanic lives up to expectations.

She also had a tv special on CBS, but what she needs is a good single.

I share this opinion - a jazz single however won't sell the album.

I think that beyond even a good single, she just needs to get her name out there more and promote across the entire world, not just the USA.

Are there two different versions of the song charting? or why there are two chart positions?

One appears on the "Titanic" soundtrack, the other on "Let's Talk About Love". Or of course, probably on "All The Way" or "My Love".
