I see what you mean by the VMA's being driven by what's popular but the way I see it is that the awards are entitled Video Of The Year etc, therefore indicating that the video that wins this award is the best video of that year, but when they just choose whichever artist is popular to win the award it totally destroys the meaning of the award, but anyways it doesnt really matter cus like you said MTV has always been like that and sometimes there can be some GREAT performances :D

@GetBack
I think most award shows are becoming less credible but I always thought the Grammy's have had a credible streak and theirs also more minor but still decently big award shows like the NME Awards for example, as even though it is more of a rock oriented company there nominations this year have included rock artists along with Beyonce and Adele so they have shown to be credible as they have actually nominated credible Music/Music Video's/Music Artists regardless of their genre of music and whether they are mainstream or not. :D

I think the reason for these shows' decline isn't due to them being credible or whatever. I think it is just down to a change in culture. Since the internet and the way in which society has evolved around it almost, there are less of those 'lets all sit in and watch this' moments.

If you've never said anything before, you did just NOW. This just preached all the tea in China and opium in Thailand!

The change of culture, and therefore appreciation for the "event", has changed and this has impacted how we view movies, music, awards shows and television (why do people think all of these damn reality shows are on... cause culture changed from "art" to mindless nuisances)
"Take A Bow"... Rihanna's ONLY ballad to go #1 on the Hot 100 (also topped the R&B Chart)... Great deed for her most epic ballad!!!

It's awkwardly strange to me that this is already being announced as were barely in February. Any-who MTV has lost any credibility it had years ago. As soon as reality shows outnumbered the amount of actual music related programming this show seized to interest me.

I'm also dumbfounded when people say that the show is boring if his or her "favorite" artist is not present performing and sweeping all the awards. As I last recall many of those "favs" were present during last years Billboard Music Awards and AMA's. If you were to research the ratings your artist star power wasn't present at all because ratings were either the same as previous year or even worse.

I have admired the VMAs until last year when they announced those crappy nominations only because they wanted Katy to win video of the year... :x

^^

Lol... Someone Like You nominated for Best Female Video is just...

I don`t know what to think about the nominees this year. MTV clearly does not nominate the videos that are actually good and nominate what is hot at the moment.

My predictions (So Far):

Best Female Video

Britney Spears - Criminal
Lady Gaga - Marry The Night or You And I
Madonna - Give Me All Your Luvin` or Girl Gone Wild
Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe
Rihanna - We Found Love
Katy Perry - Part of Me

Don`t know which video MTV will not nominated... it`s too hard to predict!

Best Male Video:

Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music
Justin Bieber - Boyfriend
-
-
-

Best Choreography:

Madonna - Girl Gone Wild
Lady Gaga - Marry The Night or You And I
Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music
Jennifer Lopez - Papi
-

Best Hip-Hop Video:

Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe
-
-
-
-

Best Collaboration

LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It
-
-
-
-

Don`t know what to say about Video of the Year... I want Marry The Night to be nominated but I highly doubt it cause there is not a threat for it unless they nominate Criminal too...

They obviously give back-to-back nominations for very successful eras by female artists. Several examples of this instance are Kelly Clarkson getting nominated (and winning) Best Female Video for "Because of You" after winning previously with "Since U Been Gone" for the same award the year before and Beyoncé getting back-to-back wins for "Crazy in Love" and "Naughty Girl", and another set of back-to-back nods for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Video Phone". There are more examples like Taylor Swift for a win with "You Belong with Me" and a nod for "Fifteen" and Christina with nods for "Dirrty" and "The Voice Within" as well. :D :D

Interesting... ^^ :D

But that does not make sense.. nominate the videos that deserve to be, not the ones of artists that have been nominated last year... Also, I don`t think they nominated Video Phone because of that logic. The video for Video Phone was very good hot sexy and the first collaboration between B and Gaga = major nominations.

Actually, I thought "Video Phone" was a weak video, but it had one hell of a powerhouse diva duo which was hot so I understood why they went by they got many votes to get the nominations!

I hate how MTV is so bias and rigs the nominations in favour of certain artists and gives awards to the 'popular artists'. I mean, the Video of the Year nominations were a joke and obviously set up for Katy to win.

I don't want to sound like a deranged stan but if MTV ignores Rihanna's WFL this year like they did with Man Down and the rest of her videos last year, I'm going to go on a rampage.

I hope Rihanna's WFL and Britney's Criminal both get the recognition they deserve.

Rihanna is snubbed big time! These videos should have gotten nods at least:

Best Female Video
Rude Boy
Only Girl (In the World)

Best Collaboration
What's My Name? (featuring Drake)

Best Pop Video
S&M
Don't Stop the Music

Video of the Year
Only Girl (In the World)

Don`t Stop The Music, really? I see nothing special in the video. Rihanna dancing and clapping in a disco... cliche!

Rude boy is full of effects and that`s probably why it has not been nominated for the major awards. It was nominated for Best Special Effects though. :D

Will Gaga perform? I hope so, maybe a new single for the new album. If so I'll tune in.

Highly doubt it... :-?

First, I don`t think the new single will be released so early and second the VMAs rarely allow an artist who performed at the previous year`s ceremony to perform again and in Gaga`s case with her overexposure the chance is even more minimal.

All I want a few nominations. A nomination for Video of the Year is out of the question, in my opinion, cause everyone knows Gaga`s huge fanbase, so she`ll probably win unless they nominate Justin`s Boyfriend but then everyone knows what`ll happen or Brit`s Criminal, actually that`s the best option. 8-) Gaga vs. Brit.

At least 1 moonman won and a red carpet, ceremony attendance will be more than enough for me. :D

Justin's "Boyfriend" will get a lot of nominations, that's a given. I think the performances this year will be mostly pop acts, like The Wanted and One Direction. Not much hip-hop/rap artists this year, except for Nicki Minaj, maybe. :D :D

It would be amazing if the VMAs bring up Madonna, Gaga,, Britney, Katy and Rihanna at the ceremony with respective nominations for GMAYL or GGW, Y&I or MTN, Criminal, Part of Me or the music video for the next single and We Found Love or the music video for Where Have You Been... 8-)

Nelly Furtado and Xtina would be amazing too... :D
