Well the material seems to divide critics, but MDNA has gone over extremely well in fan circles, probably because the material at least "feels" like Madonna, unlike her last album

MDNA has received mostly positive reviews.

joao, what do you mean that the leaked material is "horrible."

Sounds more like a personal opinion to me...

I said "leaked" because I haven´t heard the entire album, just the tracks that leaked days before.

It´s a personal opinion, but it seems to be shared with a lot of people (since her singles have failed miserably this time around despite colossal promo). The vocals are awful, the lyrics would fit for a teenager not a 53 year old woman, and the lead single is completely tuneless. No wonder even with a Superbowl performance watched by +100 million, young superstar collabs, and a Clear Channel payola deal, the song couldn even become moderately sucessful. It might not even go gold, which is pathetic for today´s market.

Of course the album was going to be #1... she has a solid fanbase that will blind buy the album, in different versions (deluxe, regular edition, etc) but after that it´s over... 60k on the 2nd week and out of the top 10 in no-time! I could be wrong but I don´t see this album outselling Hard Candy at all.

I don´t think the fanbase reaction will make much difference in the numbers.

Fans would buy all the different editions of the album even if they thought the album was crap, fans will blind buy it.

What matters is what the general public thinks. I don´t think most people are even hearing the new material. They heard GAYL on the first week because of the payola and its superbowl performance, but that was it. And the sales for that song on itunes really show that the general public isn´t crazy for it.

Surprised about HDD's predictions, way more than what most expected for Madonna and Lionel!

About Metacritic, if they think HC is better than MDNA in any way, something's seriously wrong with that site. Weren't they involved in some credibility controversy a while back?

About this week's releases i would like to ask if anyone is so kind to answer, do we know any projections for Iron Maiden's "En Vivo"? Also, will it chart on the BB200 albums chart on on the videos chart?
Thank you !

BELIEBE IT OR NOT: Justin Bieber’s "Boyfriend" has sold nearly 300k this week and has already surpassed his best-ever first week of 199k for "Baby" in 2010. "Boyfriend" is projected to sell 400-450k for the week, which would be one of the Top 5 digital downloads total of all time. (3/28a)

i know he s one of the most hated artists on here but he could top the hot 100 chart newt week.

His new song sounds like Justin Timberlake imo.

LOL seriously this site? I havent heard of about 70% of the sites on it.

Anyway she is on track for 300K so who cares about reviews. And even the most diehard of fans know it will have a big dip second week, this album is just about promoting the tour and first week sales.

Regardless of anyone's opinions of the quality of the album which seem to differ a lot, I think for an established artist to outsell their previous album's first week total in this market is a big achievement.

Good on Madonna.

I agree, old chap! Madge does have high first week sales. But after that? She has had her fair share of 'flop' albums. Two of her last three, American Life and Hard Candy were charcaterised by good opening week's sale - then poor sales after.

Please go vomiting your hate somewhere else :P : I listned to the album more than once by now and I LOVE IT, and this come from someone who has been bringing shit on HC everywhere here in every possible shape and form

I agree the single flopped.....still if she'll reach HC sales in the end without a shadow of hits and no promo that would be great for an act at her stage.

Obviously, there is still public interest towards Madonna, it's not like only her biggest die-hard fans bought this album. If Madonna sold half of her predicted sales, some of you will be laughing that she is a flop, and that she is going irrelevant and that she can barely impact the charts since only her hardcore fans are supporting her music. Now, based on the predictions that she has managed outselling her previous album's first week sales, which was released four years ago in a different and healthier market climate, with an album that has no strong hit single, some of you still judge it as a flop and that the album is only bought by her die-hard fans that is why it has front-loaded sales.

There are so many younger, more relevant female artists out there that reach out to bigger audiences with their songs (with a bigger fanbase that Madonna has right now) who don't even open with at least 320,000 copies sold in their current album's first-week sales. Madonna will evidently struggle to sell and compete with the younger popstars, obviously because she is not the current favorite pop act unlike back in the day, no matter how good or bad her album sounds. With that said, it will be difficult for Madonna to have a hit single with so much competition from the younger artists, but to still sell more than the younger artists' albums who are far more relevant in today's industry is a huge success, no matter how much it sells in the long run.

Is Lionel doing country to sell albums now any different than when out of nowhere he tried sounding like Usher to make a comeback back when the JD urban style was hip, when he's always had a reputation as this "pop" guy.

To be fair I have never noticed any of his "work" I just knew he wasnt a Country act but I know Country sells in the US.

Country actually isn't that far-fetched for Lionel as the Usher-style was. He wrote a #1 hit for Kenny Rogers ("Lady") in 1980 and actually had crossover country chart success in his 1980's heyday with "Stuck On You" and "Deep River Woman". Even though he's black and started out in a funk band, he's always been a very middle of the road poppish guy once he went solo. He'd worked with Kenny Rogers and Alabama back in his day.

As many as six debuts will land in next week's Top 15, with Madonna leading the way, the second of at least three weeks for UMG in the #1 slot. Next week, ending 4/8, Nicki Minaj is expected to debut on top. Lionel Richie continues to astound with remarkable, sustained sales. Also note: a year ago, Adele’s 21 was also in the #3 spot, with 94k in sales. Twelve months later, she’s in the same place, this time with between 110-120k as her remarkable story continues. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:

*Madonna (Interscope) 325-350k
*Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 150-175k
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 110-120k
*Shinedown (Atlantic) 85-95k
The Hunger Games soundtrack (Universal Republic) 65-75k
One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 40-45k
Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 30-35k
Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 27-30k
Now 41 (Capitol/EMI) 25-28k
The Shins (Columbia) 24-27k
*The Used (Hopeless) 24-27k
Whitney Houston Greatest Hits (RCA) 21-24k
Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 19-22k
*The Mars Volta (Warner Bros.) 17-20k
*All-American Rejects (Interscope) 17-20k
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 17-20k
fun. (Fueled by Ramen) 17-20k
Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 17-20k

He was talking about "artistic integrity" in a post related to Madonna and Lionel Ritchie's sales.
