That wouldn't really be a shock.
Britney, Mariah, Madonna or Beyonce would. But it's probably Brit (which is sad since she is the highest in my list out of these 4)

Y'all, I assure you it's not Britney. There's no way Alicia and P!nk are higher than she is.

I'm guessing it's either Mariah, Britney or Rihanna.

If it's Mariah, I'll be very very depressed that she crashed out at #8 only.

If it's Britney or Rihanna, I believe that's their deserved positions (probably even too high for Rihanna).

I really doubt the "megastar" Wayne is referring to is Alicia Keys or Pink.

It can't be Madonna and/or Beyoncé too as they have a huge following here and should be in the top 5.

106 ¬ Ella Fitzgerald ¬ 258 POINTS

Summertime and the livin is easy
Fish are jumpin and the cotton is high
Oh your daddys rich and your ma is good lookin
So hush little baby, dont you cry
One of these mornings
Youre goin to rise up singing
Then youll spread your wings
And youll take the sky

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 in Newport News, VA – June 15, 1996), also known as Lady Ella (the First Lady of Song), was one of the most influential jazz singers of the 20th Century, the winner of thirteen Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Art presented by President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom presented by President George H. W. Bush. Gifted with a three-octave vocal range, she was noted for her purity of tone, near faultless phrasing and intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. Although considered by many to be simply the best, some critics have suggested that she occasionally failed to put the required emotional investment into her interpretations. She remains, however, one of the most successful, influential and enduringly popular singers of the last century.

105 ¬ Lena Meyer-Landrut ¬ 261 POINTS

I went everywhere for you
I even did my hair for you
I bought new underwear, they're blue
And I wore 'em just the other day

Love, you know I'll fight for you
I left on the porch light for you
Whether you are sweet or cruel
I'm gonna love you either way

Lena Meyer-Landrut (born 23 May 1991 in Hannover, Germany), also known by her stage name Lena, is a German singer and songwriter. She represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo, Norway, and won the contest with the song “Satellite”. With her three entries from the German national final Unser Star für Oslo (Our Star for Oslo), Meyer-Landrut set an all-time chart record in her home country by debuting with three songs in the top five of the German singles chart. Both “Satellite” and her first album My Cassette Player debuted at number one in Germany, and have been certified double Platinum since. It has been confirmed that Meyer-Landrut will once more represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with the entry, Taken By A Stranger. Meyer-Landrut started taking dancing lessons at the age of five; initially doing ballet and later practising various modern styles, including hip-hop and jazz dance. Meyer-Landrut grew fond of singing and appeared as an extra in a number of German television series; however she never received any formal acting or vocal training. In June 2010 she graduated from IGS Roderbruch Hannover, a comprehensive school, receiving her Abitur diploma. Despite having had no professional singing experience, Meyer-Landrut decided to take part in the talent show Unser Star für Oslo (Our Star for Oslo), a newly created national television programme to select the German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo.

A whopping 10 voters voted Britney as their #1 act - that's nearly 10% of the entire voting cast! :o

Britney Jean Spears (born on December 2, 1981 in McComb, Mississippi, United States, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, United States) is a Grammy-winning multi-platinum American pop singer, songwriter, dancer and occasional actress. Having sold more than 100 million records worldwide, she is one of the most influential and popular post-2000 icons of music, with six #1 albums on the Billboard 200 and The United World Chart. Spears is one of the few young musicians to appear on lists of best selling music acts of all-time. She also holds several world records. She has released eleven albums to date:”…Baby One More Time” (1999), “Oops!…I Did It Again” (2000), “Britney” (2001), “In The Zone” (2003), “Greatest Hits: My Prerogative” (2004), “B in the Mix: the Remixes” (2005), “Blackout” (2007), “Circus” (2008), “The Singles Collection” (2009), “Femme Fatale” (2011) and “B in the Mix: The Remixes Vol. 2” (2011). As a child, Spears performed as a cast member of The New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993 to 1994, along with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. In September 2004, she married Kevin Federline. The couple had two sons, Sean (born September 2005) and Jayden (born September 2006). Spears filed for divorce in November 2006. Britney’s debut album’ …Baby One More Time’ was a huge commercial success. It debuted at number one in the U.S with 120,500 copies sold in its first week on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 6 non-consecutive weeks, and it also debuted at number one in Canada, and reached the top ten in many other countries.

Britney presented us some great songs in the late 90's, but her recent stuff is underwhelming in my opinion, mainly due to her apparent lack of interest in the making of music.

She is easily my favourite mainstream pop singer by far! She has everything I love. Personality, great music, overall amazing entertainer. Yes life has happened (she IS human) and may never be the sam, but thank God we stll have her. She brought us unforgettable tunes and moments such as BOTM video (which the song never gets old), Oops I Did It Again, Toxic, she has an amazing discography and pop at it's best. When people undermine her just cause she's Britney, it irks me. She's not a plastic pop artist really. Plastic pop does not sound like In the Zone or Blackout. She's been unlucky, but at least now that she's hone through so much, she;s at her feet. I don't care if we never get another album again if she is not happy (though Femme Fatal is not as great as her previous efforts). I just want happiness for her now... I will always love this chick and her quirky personality. Her happiness is what counts the most for me though.

My #1, my Queen of Music, my idol, my love.

A lot of people criticize Britney for not being the strongest singer in the industry and now, for not being as strong a dancer as before, but for me, Britney is the ultimate symbol of what it means to be a survivor. She was hounded by the paparazzi, ridiculed and jeered by the media, and suffered a very public, very saddening meltdown only to recover a year later with a #1 album and #1 single.

And let's not forget about her music! She's recorded some undeniable classics that have defined an era and she'll definitely go down as a legend. Her music videos are equally as iconic. Generations after us will probably still be watching the "...Baby One More Time" and "Toxic" videos and revel in the genius behind those masterpieces.

Britney's got a massive following here on UKMix so this ranking is definitely a shocker especially since I, for one, predicted her as the winner.

Hold up. Alicia and P!nk are above her? :o I demand a recount!

Britney deserves to be higher than Alicia Keys, Pink and Rihanna, even though I voted Rihanna higher than Britney (as at that time of voting, I preferred Rihanna). She can be known as the "Princess of Pop" and I doubt anyone would object with that title as she, indeed, has really brought us many classics. Britney is also one of the few megastars of the 2000s that has in one way or another changed the genre of pop music. Some people may say that Britney's recent stuff is underwhelming, but I find them the best of her whole discography (especially "Femme Fatale", which produced amazing singles IMO). I believe Britney's impact on the music industry is unmatched by any other female artist that emerged during the 2000s. Britney may not have that huge of an impact now with new emerging artists like Lady Gaga and Adele, but what she has done to the industry will never be forgotten and to me, she is a gem of America. Britney was my #10 at that time of voting, but now, after discovering her discography in detail, she'd be in my top 6.

Very shocking. Britney is a legend. She's probably the youngest artist out there that deserve to be called a legend. And she's considered as a legend anyway, every time she appears, she gets standing ovation and the crowd gone wild.
She's my #3 fave artist.

It's shocking that she is lower than P!nk since I didn't really see P stans around here. Britney is a legend in the making. I was stanning hard for her back in 07-09 but now I'm a bit over her since she doesn't show any passion for the music she makes.
Femme Fatale was a weak album even though it had a few great songs on it.

My fav albums:

02 Circus
03 Britney

Singles:
