As has been explained previously, there are more than one version of Dangerous - when all added up, they make the album qualify for the list. But the last figure that anyone saw for the main edition of Dangerous was in the 5.785m range, its obvious that since he died, they've shipped copies of the other edition, and not so much of the old edition.

For whatever reason, Soundscan haven't combined the sales of the two albums.

No, its not that - he doesn't have a single album above 300k at BMG, and he never had any of his albums available through Columbia [Fresh Horses aside] - at least whilst the club was big.

Is it cause of his deal with Wal-Mart for his boxset? Soundscan I don't believe kept track of those exclusive deals until the controversial week in which the Eagles debuted at #1 and ticked off a bunch of Britney Spears fans because of the rule change. I believe Garth sold several million box-sets and they all went to the totals of each album respectively.

^Yes. Those albums were not counted by Soundscan, but it sold over 2 million units so 2xp was added to all the individual album sales with the RIAA.

Paul Grein:

4/7/12 chart:

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band this week tops the 20 million mark in U.S. sales since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard in 1991.

Impressive as this figure is, it doesn't count Seger's first 22 years of sales, dating back to the 1969 entry of Bob Seger System's first charted album, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man.

There are 4 male country singers in Top 10. Wow!

Whitney might be in No.40 in the latest update, right?

^No. The Bodyguard is listed as Soundtrack with SoundScan and not a Whitney Houston album.
