Music Week today reported 7,228M albums sold by M in the UK in the 21st century.
Considering:

1630 for Mu
850 for Ghv2
340 for AL
1350 for COADF
100 for the 3 live CDs and R&R (if counted as an album)
350 for HC
500 for CLB
1100 for TIC (in 2008 MW stated it sold one million in 21st century)

The total is about 6,20M.

Considering her soundtrack albums sold almost zero after their initial release, it means her studio albums from 1983 to ROL (plus STR) sold one million copies since 2000s. Not bad at all!

How she's managed to maintain such a high profile career in the UK - despite obviously dwindling sales - is extraordinary. Her sales are superb overall though.

I think ROL alone sold around 300K since 2000. I had the figure somewhere, will try to find it...

BTW in the 00's, Madonna sold 6.940.000 albums.

Mmmm just crunched some numbers ... Without any new release, she sold 288.000 albums in 2010, 2011 and 2012 so far. Since Celebration sold around 325K in '09, could it be well over 500.000 by now?

The article seems to be from 2005, does anybody know new figures? If they didn't count COADF, HC and Celebration, she could be #4 now.

2. The Beatles (1,293 weeks)
3. Elvis Presley (1,280 weeks)
4. U2 (1,150 weeks)
5. Dire Straits (1,136 weeks)

Trying to check if it's weeks in the Top 75, Top 100 or Top 200! We also need to add IGTTYAS and TCT.

Top 75 since Nov 2005:
*COADF 44 weeks
*Celebration 30 weeks
*IGTTYAS 3 weeks
*TCT 4 weeks
*Hard Candy 25 weeks
*MDNA 1 week
*TIC 20 weeks (need to double check this)
Total = 127 weeks

So she'd be at 1.159 weeks now. However haven't been able to see if the Top 10 list covers 75/100/200 positions.

Ah, found this page at the OCC. It's not 100% up to date, it's missing 3 recent weeks for Celebration + MDNA.

http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/_/madonna/

Click on the Albums tab. I get a total of 1166 weeks.

Firstly, Guinness isn't an authority on record sales - no more than me, or you.

Secondly, I am saying that if she's sold 72m albums, she hasn't then shipped 75m - that would mean 3m copies on shelves, and that just isn't the case.
