My opinions on the top 3...

Adele -

I think she's a talented songwriter, who was fortunate enough to be given an incredible platform to showcase a classic song [Someone Like You]. Before the Brits, she was a star; after the Brits she was a record shattering superstar.

Didn't make my votes.

Beyonce -

I've warmed to her, no doubt. She's got a good voice, is a fantastic live performer and a really great role model for young girls. She's captivated a seemingly boundless fan base, and has produced some classic singles. My favourite Beyonce singles are mid-tempo - Love On Top, Broken Hearted Girl, 1+1, End of Time - or club bangers such as Check On It, the Freemasons mix of Green Light/Ring The Alarm.

Didn't make my votes.

Mariah Carey -

I am not a lamb - never have been, never will be. I do not like to be associated with that group of fans, though a lot of them here are amazing people [definitely altered my opinion of her fanbase, generally]. That being said, I love her music as much as anybody, especially her 1990's early peaks, and her first four albums which marked an incredible run of success. She's got probably the strongest discography of the big five females - though I am appreciating Celine's more these days - and for a relatively short while, she was the best female artist in the world [1990-1993] by a country mile. She's just incredibly talented, with a God-given gift, and if - just for once - she bleeding well ignored the lambs, and came back with a show stopping ballad, she'd be on top again.

Mariah was my #2, and received 49 points from me.

It's an extremely high position for a person who's the one of the worst trend-setters in the music history. Her guilt is all that we can see now in the contemporary music - shallow voiceless so-called divas in the tacky outfits lip-syncing manufactured trash-dance-pop.
She deserves to be executed :D
For someone who put Adele at #1 with only 2 albums out, your post is just stupid :D
I think you are not the one who can guess what is stupid and what is not.
Basically, the whole vote is 'UKMix favourite female acts', not 'Best female act ever'. So for 2011 Adele is definitely my favorite female act with a huge margin over the others.
Moreover Adele's two albums are MUCH bigger FOR ME than all katyperry's, brithey's, rihanna's, beyonce's discographies together :D
So in the future, think before writing. Sometimes it helps.

Adele - Love some of her songs - especially chasing pavements but other than a performance here and there, I don't spend much time watching/listening to her. Would be my #20 or something like that.

Beyonce - I don't like this woman at all (though I've come to appreciate her as a warm, kind person).

Don't know why. Actually, I do - her voice grates on my last nerve and when she produces her 'vibrato' I officially lose it. My favorite song from her would be Girls. Hate her up-tempos otherwise. They just have no melodies. Would be my #25 or something like that.

Mariah Carey - Premier vocalist. Strong discography. Average Videos. Bit tits. And the craziest bitch-diva on Earth.

Mariah throwing shade in her videos gives me life - oh, and her insane vocal acrobatics in the higher register. No one else can do it. No, really. You'd always get Whitneys and celines who belt like there's no tomorrow but the musicianship and connectedness, etc. Mariah shows in that range is just :o

Every single person on Earth must listen to Outside once with their headphones on - just for the last two minutes or so. You can easily tell when artists use software, etc. to modify their voice on record. Mariah's recent work is famous for it (Angels Cry - that last note was a joke) but the woman also did some crazy crazy crazy stuff with her voice and did it all naturally. It's the kind of stuff that made Patti Labelle get up and say "I can't sing (Hero) like her". What she meant is she cannot produce tones and notes even half as musically complex as Mariah's. She simply is (was) the best musician of all time. A pure genius.

Hate her whisper voice though. Hate hate hate it. I feel like hitting her with a saucepan when she insists on using it and stretches it beyond her comfort zone.

Yeah...

...as talented as Beyonce is...her vibrato can be extremely unattractive. Her and Trey Songz both.

But the both of them have since recognized it and have backed off.

And I applaud them for that. But, in all honesty, I used to hate Beyonce's singing voice.

She used to yoddle a lot back in her Destiny's Child days. Kelly Rowland's voice was a lot more pleasant to the ear...

Okay, let me share my view on these ladies since I'm probably a "hater" now.

Mariah Carey

I don't think there's any female with a stronger discography than this woman. Her success speaks for itself. While I don't love her as much as I used to, I'll always look forward to new material and she'll always be one of my favorite singers. She's cemented her legendary status, in the U.S at least!

Beyonce

I love her! She can be annoying as hell but she's just that bitch. Her videos, albums, singles, performances - all fire. I don't care what anyone says, no other pop star since the 90's has had an influence on girls like she has. She's also one of my favs. 8-)

I love this post.

Except I find Beyonce both annoying and endearing at the same time.

It's a little confused. Her approach (i.e. singing or performing) really, really bothers me sometimes...

Sometimes, it's endearing...

My youngest sister (I have two) can't really stand Rihanna but she lives for Beyonce...

And that's saying something because she doesn't follow music like I do...

I can't believe Mariah didn't win.

Mariah is what music is to me. I was just a casual listener until I discovered and truly fell in love with her. I became more interested in chart and music in general. I adore her music, her personality, and her voice. I feel like she's my long lost auntie.

I was once a Beyonce fan until I discovered Mimi.

Wayne, I was never your fan... And you probably know that

However, the respect I have for you is HUGE.
The fact that you waste so much time making these countdowns and the dedication you put into them are admirable.

You are the definition of a true music lover and, even though our musical tastes couldn't be more different, I applaud you.

Thank you

Thanks for that Wayne! :D

Just HOW did Belinda Carlisle do so badly? :o :o :o

Only tiny thing, your 251-266 only has 15 names on it - so I think you've missed one. (Still, missing one name out of almost 600 is VERY good going!)

Anyway, my list in full...

1. Alisha's Attic (307)
2. Cher (34)
3. Helen Love (319)
4. Eva Cassidy (155)
5. Cerys Matthews (328)

47. TLC (43)
48. All Saints (285)
49. LeAnn Rimes (119)
50. Shirley Bassey (140)

and from the 10 I nearly voted for - it seems only three got no love from anyone - Carly Simon, the fantastic Beth Orton and X Factor judging legend... Sinitta!

Thank you VERY much for a fantastic countdown!

Rihanna over Madonna? The biggest female pop icon? What a joke. This countdown should be called "favorite female acts by UKMix stans". 'Cause that's basically what it is.

Adele is way too high IMO, I like her but she's just starting, she has released only 2 albums, I don't think that's enough for a no.3 placement.

And I was almost sure Mariah had a shoe-in topping this countdown considering her huge fanbase here on UKMix. Well, I think no.2 is okay.

Alicia (very overrated for me) and Pink are also a bit high IMO.

I don't remember my top 10 exactly but it would be like this:

1. Madonna
2. Lady Gaga
3. Katy Perry
4. Christina Aguilera
5. Mariah Carey
6. Britney Spears
7. Pink
8. Adele
9. Alanis Morissette
10. Celine Dion
