The Roof is one of the best songs in her discography.

I'd rate it 10/10 = perfect score. The video is her hottest video to date.

My Saving Grace is flawless. It belongs to the gospel trinity which consists of FLAB, I wish you well and this one.

Yeah, I don't really love it as much as some other lambs do. Grossly overrated, in my opinion.

Akini, you best take TayTay's advice and sleep with both eyes open after ranking "The Roof" at No. 64. when I compiled my Mariah list for the Ultimate Chart game, I put that gem at No. 1. this is beyond unacceptable. you've been warned. as for the other songs...

"Thanx 4 Nothin'" = I never thought the chorus in this was that catchy, it's one of my least-played E=MC2 tracks (along with "Last Kiss" and "I Wish You Well"). I think the album definitely could've done without it.

"Never Forget You" = am I crazy, or does this sound a bit country? just like pretty much all of Music Box, I quite like this track! I do slightly prefer the Radio Edit, though.

"One And Only" = *sigh* above "The Roof"? really? it's not one of the worst on Mimi, but nowhere near the best either. forgettable. "So Lonely" is much better.

"My Saving Grace" = not here for gospel Mariah.
*Gets bored with death threats and commences the sipping of tea*

I am surprised that "The Roof (Back In Time)" was your #1 on the list. Is it still your fave Mariah song?

*Adjusts wig after encounter with Paul*

Never Forget You.

Nice not amazing
Truer words were never spoken. 8-)

Tripolis wrote: "Thanx 4 Nothin'" : This is in fact one of the better songs off "E=MC^2" - this was my jam when I first heard the album. It isn't that great as on first listen but still good nonetheless. 6/10

"The Roof (Back In Time)" :  You ranking this low is unforgivable! This track is easily Mariah's greatest lyrical achievement and is by far one of the best lyrics she has written to-date. This song is so underrated by the public and the love it gets from the fans is deserving. This deserves a much higher placing and would certainly be a contender for my overall Mariah top 10, or even top 5. 10/10

"Never Forget You" : This track is sooo filler. One of the worst tracks from her 1990s discography. 2/10

"One And Only" : One of the better non-singles off "The Emancipation of Mimi". It doesn't get spins regularly from me though as there are much better Mimi songs that I would prefer listening to. 6/10

"My Saving Grace" : This is one of my favourite tracks from "Charmbracelet". It's one of her finest gospel tunes too, IMO and you ranked it quite appropriately. 7/10
Aw, I'm sure we can find a way.

fvorite from the last batch would be My Saving Grace

Game over?

leoapp wrote:Thanx 4 Nothin - It's just okay, probably the weakest midtempo ballad from E=MC2, a bit forgettable

The Roof (Back In Time) - This is the most overrated Mariah's song ever, it's actually great, one of her earliest urban jams, but it's praised as if it's her bets ever

Never Forget You - I love it, THE BEST non single from Music Box (well, it's only a b side of Without You though and only released for urban radio). Don't get how many fans dislike it

One And Only - It's an okay on TEOM, i quite like the rapping part. Not bad. But there are betters songs on TEOM.

My Saving Grace - One of the standout songs on Charmbracelet, a greta gospel song from her
Woohoo! Another person agrees with me. 8-)

It's definitely nice, but it's not phenomenal like it's made up to be.

Glad you agree.

#60.

I Wish You Knew.

Image

This one's a lovely track from The Emancipation of Mimi. Unfortunately, I can relate to it at the moment. :(

#59.

Whenever You Call.

Image

Great track with a beautiful chorus where Mariah's vocals just soar. The verses bring down the song a bit but it's definitely one of the highlights of Butterfly.

#58.

Bringin' On The Heartbreak.

Image

I really, really like this track, so much so that it's become a regular appearance in my Daily Top 20 Chart for the past week or so. However, the track's not the strongest she's recorded. It is one of the few highlights from Charmbracelet, though.

#57.

H.A.T.E.U.

Image

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is one of those Mimi records that gets an unfair amount of hate. This track is definitely one of the many highlights of that album. I love the tenderness in her voice and the whistles in the background during the chorus. Great track!

#56.

O.O.C.

Image

This is easily one of my fave R&B jams from E=MC². The chorus just makes me want to dance. The only negative thing I can say about this track would probably be the fact that "forever, forever" gets a tad bit repetitive.

I Wish You Knew - This is my most favorite non single from TEOM (behind Secret Love which is a bonus track). I like the sudden whistle part.

Whenever You Call - A cool ballad from Butterfly, Butterfly is not one of my faves album from her overall. But this one is quite decent, although nit that great.

Bringin' On The Heartbreak - Definitely her 2nd BEST COVER after Without You, so haunting, the whistle at the end is one of her best whistles ever imo. I also like the rock influence. Poor it flopped. :(

H.A.T.E.U. - This song is imo the best ballad on Memoirs. But I wish she didn't do that robotic auto-tuned vocal. And if the song was faster, it could've been more commercial. It didn't deserve to flop!

O.O.C. - Meh, the weakest song E=MC2, nothing special, i usually skip this one

"I Wish You Knew" = the live-concert-effect is cool, but it's not one of my favorites from TEOM. granted, it's hard to stand out when you're on the same album as ballads like "We Belong Together", "Don't Forget About Us", and "Mine Again".

"Whenever You Call" = much too low for this gorgeous, gorgeous song! I'd say...Top 30 worthy, possibly Top 20. I truly love both the Mariah-only and duet versions, but I'd give the edge to the duet, Mariah and Brian McKnight made for a killer combo.

"Bringin' On The Heartbreak" = I'm still baffled by how crazy fans tend to go for this one. I'm glad to see it outside your Top 50, but I think it belongs even lower...

"H.A.T.E.U." = I agree with leoapp about the auto-tune, Mariah made some odd choices in the ways she changed this from The-Dream's demo, but it's still one of the highlights of Memoirs. I'd put it a bit higher than you did, Top 50.

"O.O.C." = very fun, I do like this one! maybe a bit too high here, but I'm still glad to see it get some love.

I actually really like "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". It's ranking just goes to show how impressive Mimi's discography is.

#55.

Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica).

Image

Yes, I know I'm crazy for ranking this above "Honey", "Dreamlover", "The Roof (Back In Time)", and "Fantasy" but this track is just so fun. The music video with the three Mariah's is also a really nice touch.

#54.

I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time.

Image

The third single from E=MC², I was actually a bit surprised that this ended up flopping as it has such a summery sound. The remix with T.I. only boosted the star power on the track but I guess "Bye Bye" had already killed the album's momentum.

#53.

Don't Forget About Us.

Image

"Don't Forget About Us" is a really nice song and all but I can't help but feel that it was a shameless attempt at trying to recreate the magic that was in "We Belong Together". Nevertheless, the song did peak at #1 in the US, giving Carey her seventeenth #1 hit, thus tying her (at the time) with Elvis Presley for solo artist with the most #1's.

#52.

Your Girl.

Image

This song could've been so much better were it not for the shrieking in the chorus. I like the verses, though.

#51.

Side Effects.

Image

One of the better tracks on E=MC², this would definitely have made it's way to many a nightclub. It's got "hit" written over it, but this wasn't the most wasted opportunity on the record. That honour is reserved for a track much higher up.

"I Wish You Knew" : I don't rate this song at all. 1/10

"Whenever You Call" : Such a gorgeous track! An easy contender for my MC top 30, I guess. I prefer the solo version to the duet one and I feel that this is one of the numerous forgotten singles from "Butterfly". 8.5/10

"Bringin' On The Heartbreak" : The best track from "Charmbracelet" along with "Through The Rain". Certainly a strong contender for my MC top 20, possibly top 15. This is the best cover she has ever done. I love the last one and a half minute of the song - her vocals during that period slays. 9.5/10

"H.A.T.E.U." : One of the few highlights from "Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel". This track, although overrated, really helps boost the Memoirs album as a whole. It would probably make my top 40 or so though. The video for this song is utter crap. 8/10

"O.O.C." : Decent... not the worst nor the best from "E=MC^2". You ranked it too high in my opinion. 5/10

"Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)" : Seriously, this ranking higher than the numerous gems below it? I can't! 0/10

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" : This track is so addictive and did not deserve to flop. It is, however, one of Mariah's weakest singles though, but it is still good. 6/10

"Don't Forget About Us" : I seriously don't get the comparisons with "We Belong Together". They are two totally different songs in my opinion that talk about the same theme (love/heartbreak) and it should be an easy contender for my top 30. 8/10

"Your Girl" : Filler from "The Emancipation of Mimi", in my opinion. Does not deserve to be ranked above #120. 3/10

"Side Effects" : One of the better non-singles from "E=MC^2". I much prefer "For The Record" to this though and I guess you ranked it quite appropriately. I hope the track much higher up is "For The Record"! 6.5/10

Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) - Meh, i don't really like it. maybe because of less Mariah on the song. It's so incredibly high on your list!!!

I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - Love this, among the top 3 my fave songs on E=MC2, i really like the summer vibe, and it's so pop. Poor it underperformed. :(

Don't Forget About Us - THIS IS MY #1 ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG FROM HER!!! I just can't even explain how i really love this song, i love how we can get her low register, her whisper-ish vocal, her high belting note, her whistle note and her long note on 1 song. And don't forget her rapping part. Definitely one of her most underrated hits. Miles better than We Belong Together for sure!!!

Your Girl - Nah, it's just an okay song from TEOM, there are much better songs on that album. I don't really like her high notes on the chorus.

Side Effects - THIS IS THE BEST NON SINGLE FROM HER EVER imo, it was such a huge mistake not to release it as a single. It's an incredibly strong song and very potential. Young Jeezy's part is flawless.

"Don't Stop" = I actually stan for this one a bit! it's defintiely not my usual cup of tea, especially since it's more like Mystikal ft. Mariah Carey, but there's something about that chorus that is just so very very catchy. Mystikal's raps actually aren't unbearable either. I would rank this even higher, probably Top 30. "don't. stop. ba-by. it's. ec-sta-sy..."

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" = eh, I think this was the nail in the coffin for E=MC2. "Bye Bye" was a poor choice, but this certainly wasn't a good pick to do damage control. T.I. adds nothing to it.

"Don't Forget About Us" = I totally agree about about this and WBT, but I still like it more than you do. I'd prolly rank it...Top 40?

"Your Girl" = I like this one too, I actually hear some similarities between this and IBLULT, but I'm glad you think this is the better of the two (as do I). I'd actually consider this one of the best non-singles on TEOM.

"Side Effects" = TOO LOW! one of the strongest tracks on E=MC2, totally could've/should've been a single! definitely at least Top 40-worthy. I'm a little worried about this "track much higher up", though..."Migrate" better not be TOO high. ;)

#50.

Get Your Number.

Image

The third The Emancipation of Mimi single to fall, "Get Your Number" is a funky R&B track that's pretty catchy. Personally, I think there were stronger tracks on the record but this was definitely one of the most "hit-ready" songs on the album.

#49.

Alone In Love.

Image

"Alone In Love" is easily one of the highlights from Mimi's self-titled debut album. I really enjoy the chorus and I think the song's lyrics are so relatable, especially for me at the moment.

#48.

Shake It Off.

Image

Released as the third single from The Emancipation of Mimi, "Shake It Off" was blocked from the top spot by Carey's own "We Belong Together", marking the very first time that a female lead artist occupied the top two slots in the US. Though certainly one of the standout tracks on the album, I feel that The Emancipation of Mimi has several stronger offerings.

#47.

Migrate.

Image

One of the more overrated tracks of Mariah's discography, "Migrate" was met with generally positive reviews by music critics. I love the beat and it certainly would've been a huge hit if it had been released, but it's still a bit weak in comparison to what I know Mimi is capable of.

#46.

You're So Cold.

Image

One of my favourite tracks on Emotions, "You're So Cold" is an amazing track. The line, "Your kiss is like fire, but deep down inside, you're so cold" just resonates with me every time.

Get Your Number - It's one of the catchiest songs on TEOM, it should've been released in US. I don't really love it, but it's great overall.

Alone In Love - It's a quite great ballad from her debut, a bit forgotten, it's not that strong compared to other ballads on the album though. The verses are great but the chorus really lacks of something.

Shake It Off - Very sad that this failed to hit #1, one of the strongest songs on TEOM, the beat is very catchy and memorable, but it's quite repetitive imo, so it's getting a bit boring after repetitious listen, maybe the song should've been shortened

Migrate - Definitely her most commercial non single she's ever made, How come they made a huge mistake by not releasing this as a single? A standout track from E=MC2, however i think T Pain's rap is a bit annoying and too long. And imo, this song is not as great as hyped, maybe less Mariah's robotic vocal and a faster tempo would be better. Mariah's part which says 'Hey' is so memorable though and the whistle at the beginning is flawless.

You're So Cold - The intro = the best intro among all Mariah's songs ever imo, so haunting, although overall the song is not that amazing, but easily the top non single on Emotions.

"Get Your Number" = eh...this one's not terrible, but I'm not a massive fan either. I'm glad it wasn't released here in the US, "Shake It Off" was perfect for the 3rd single. I think it's something about JD "singing" (rapping?) the whole hook that's off-putting to me. Mariah's bits are still catchy, though.

"Alone In Love" = like leoapp said, it's good but a bit forgettable when on the same album as ballads like "Vision Of Love", "Love Takes Time", "Vanishing", etc. I like it, but I wouldn't put it this high.

"Shake It Off" = I actually think this one is a bit low, I'd probably put it in my Top 40. apart from its general catchiness, it was a lot of fun watching it smash back in 2005 (although shocking/disappointing to see it blocked from the top spot not only by WBT, but also by the sudden explosion of "Gold Digger").

"Migrate" = I get that this would've been a hit, so I agree it should've been a single, but it's still a mess. some of the most embrassing lyrics of her entire career.

"You're So Cold" = I agree with leoapp about the epic-ness of the intro. not sure if I'd call it the top non-single on Emotions, I really like "To Be Around You" too, but this one is great too. maybe a little high, but still great.

"Get Your Number" : It's catchy, and definitely screams "hit" all over it, but it just isn't suited to my music taste. It's decent, though, but I guess you ranked it too high. 6/10

"Alone In Love" : Another filler track from her debut. It's by far the best of the fillers though... but pales very much in comparison to the rest of the album. 4/10

"Shake It Off" : A great choice for a single to continue her momentum. Deserved to hit #1 in the US as the video is great and the song is very catchy. I'm glad it became MiMi's second consecutive radio smash, though. 7.5/10

"Migrate" : One of my favourite tracks from "E=MC^2", and without a doubt, one of the most neglected songs (whereby it could've been released as a single) of her discography. Should she have released this instead of "Bye Bye" as the second single, the album could possibly be a hit. This tune is a smash. I'd ranked it in top 40. 8/10

"You're So Cold" : This track is mediocre and is underwhelming for Mariah's standards. "Emotions" is my least-favourite Mariah album, so that probably has a factor in me judging this song.. I'll have to listen to this again, but for now that's how I feel about it. 4/10

You're So Cold is such early-90's epicness.

OOC is def. underrated. I always found the flute hypnotising.

Migrate and Side Effects are among the best songs she's done in the '00's.

Great pack of songs, but Shake It Off and Migrate should be higher!
